Chapter 44: Hunter’s Gambit
Chapter 44: Hunter’s Gambit
Max measured Kaiju’s fever from time to time. Soon, Kaiju’s fever dwindled until he could open his eyes. At the same time, the Gacha System’s voice echoed in his mind.
{Your body finally adapted to Cold Resistance skill. Cold Resistance skill has finally taken effect. Cold Resistance Skill, Rare grade, has been added to your status!}
Kaiju’s mouth curved upward. He grinned ear to ear. Another passive resistance skill, rare grade at that, had been added to his status. ’Should I call myself a passive resistance gatherer? Adding Rare grade to it?’ He thought silly, causing him to chuckle.
"Seeing your delightful reaction, you must have finally recovered, right?" Kaiju was familiar with the voice and turned his head, seeing Max reading a book while leisurely sitting on a rocking chair. Kaiju smiled and replied, "Yes. Thank you for looking after me."
Max stood up, stored the chair and book on his inventory and walked forward. He suddenly kicked Kaiju’s bed, causing it to collapse. Thankfully, Kaiju reacted on time and appeared beside the bed, standing with an appalled expression. He glanced at Max, seeing the latter furrowing his eyebrows.
"It has been five days. Stop slacking off now and go to Qwanisha. Train with your pets." Max sighed. "We can’t waste anymore time. We are being observed by them."
Kaiju’s hair stood on ends. He warily swept his gaze and indeed, he perceived menacing gazes locked into him. They might have been dissatisfied with him sleeping around, wasting the time they were given. Kaiju took a deep breath and exhaled.
"I’ll quickly go with them." Kaiju pulled the hood and disappeared into the shadows.
Max was stunned by his stunt and smiled. He whispered, "Work hard, Kaiju. Let us survive this ordeal."
He then walked in the different direction and disappeared, training and grinding alone.

"You’re finally synchronizing with Little Gorilla’s action, Snow." Qwanisha was lecturing Little Gorilla and Snow amidst the Thrall’s carcasses. The vicinity was filled with frost and toxicity, making it harmful, even to Qwanisha and Little Gorilla. However, the latter employed his Zealot’s protection skill, protecting them from it.
"You’re adapting to Snow’s spells, Little Gorilla." Qwanisha praised. "You also know how to preserve your mana and carefully avoid Snow’s spells without utilizing a lot of it. I commend you for that."
Little Gorilla uttered an excited gecker noises and bowed. Snow was saddened somewhat, realizing her spell was a double-edge sword, affecting even her teammates. Qwanisha discerned her emotion and assured her.
"That is the cons of possessing destructive, lethal power Snow. That is why, the aim of this training is for your teammate to adapt to your power, while you freely attack. It is a hunter controlling his flames. It is not easy, know that. There’s three months for that."
Snow nodded, comprehending fully and assimilating Qwanisha’s guidance. Qwanisha was glad that Snow’s intelligence was high. She turned to Little Gorilla and said, "However, I still want you to remain passive Little Gorilla. Strike with an aim to control the crowd. We call it crowd control, the enemy’s attention must be on you. Stop counter-attacking. Remember, attack to distract them. Let Snow finish them.
You’re wasting your mana too much earlier."
Little Gorilla nodded with a resolute expression.
Qwanisha smiled. "This battle formation is difficult. Although there is a basic formation, such as tank and fighter at the vanguards and ranger, support and mage at the back, it can’t be applied to you both, hybrid. You, Little Gorilla, is both a support and tank, so your battle style is vastly different from common tank and support. Snow is even the difficult case, her battle style is more like a fighter mage–not usually seen even in the Tower. Your master... I can assume his role is almost an assassin and his presence must be lesser when it comes to the enemies. As a result, I devised a battle tactic and formation specially designed for you."
Qwanisha smiled even brighter after glancing behind Snow and Little Gorilla’s back. Not only was she teaching them, she was trying to distract them, so Kaiju could successfully sneak behind their back.
"Right?" Qwanisha stared behind their backs. "Kaiju?"
Snow and Little Gorilla were taken aback, hastily turning their backs against Qwanisha. They excitedly resonate their beasts’ noises while leaping forward to Kaiju’s embrace. He welcomed them, brightly smiled, and stared at Qwanisha.
"Big Sister Qwanisha is right." Qwanisha’s eyes lit up from the way Kaiju called her. "We must fully follow her training, lest we won’t improve."
Snow and Little Gorilla nodded solemnly. Snow then continued to snuggle on Kaiju’s embrace, missing his warmth. Meanwhile, Little Gorilla sat on Kaiju’s left shoulder, knowing Snow liked Kaiju’s right shoulder and he might get a scolding from her if he stole it.
Kaiju pet Snow and asked Qwanisha, "Can you elucidate the battle formation you have formulated, Big Sister?"
"Of course!" Qwanisha enthusiastically replied. "I call it, Hunter’s Gambit!"
"Hunter’s Gambit?" Kaiju’s eyes lit up. "I like the way you call it."
Qwanisha grinned. "Thank you. So, what is your idea about it before I explain it to you?"
"Well, Hunter’s Gambit. Hunter represents actively hunting the prey. But gambit... a risk?"
"Calculated risk." Qwanisha corrected him. "The main point of this training is to grasp the calculated risk, or else, the risk you will take in the future might be the cause of your death."
Kaiju’s countenance turned grave, grasping Qwanisha’s aim.
"Tell me more about it." Kaiju was interested in it.
After all, if it was Qwanisha, who designed and suggested it, then there was no harm to master the battle formation. Furthermore, Qwanisha grasped their battle style, perhaps, better than they do.
Qwanisha nodded. "In this formation, it consists of three roles, of course. Little Gorilla will be the Hunter’s Anchor. Snow will be the Hunter’s Flame. And you will be..." Qwanisha grinned mysteriously. "The Hunter’s Fang."
Kaiju’s eyes sparkled.
He liked the idea behind each role. He even began to like the battle formation even more.
