Chapter 43: Cold Sickness
"What did you put into his food?" Qwanisha glared at Griffin.
Kaiju was currently sleeping in the bed Lucy created. His face was indifferent but his breathing was clogged by mucus, obviously suffering from cold. Snow and Little Gorilla were lying beside him, the latter massaging his body while Snow continued to rub Kaiju’s cheeks, wanting to comfort him from pain. Qwanisha and others surrounded him, some perplexed while others were worried.
Griffin snorted at Qwanisha’s question. "If I really did put something harmful to Kaiju’s food, I might just have made a mistake, it should be on you."
"Y-You!" Qwanisha gritted her teeth, almost losing her sanity.
She took a deep breath and turned to Faith, asking, "Why are you not healing him?"
"His pet said so."
Little Gorilla uttered a gecker noise, explaining through their beast communication. Faith, for some reason, managed to grasp what he said and interpreted it to Qwanisha, "He said his master did not want to be healed."
"Why won’t you force it?"
Little Gorilla growled at Qwanisha. Faith sighed and said, "See? I would have done so, aunt Qwanisha. I don’t want to go against my student, after all."
"Aunt..." Qwanisha was on the brink of her sanity, but then, received a back hug by Max. Max said, "Don’t worry, Kaiju might be planning something."
"Say." Griffin garnered their attention. "Do you think this situation is similar?"
"What do you mean?" Qwanisha narrowed her eyes, ready to stop Griffin from making fun of such a serious situation.
"I mean, I was not there, but this situation was similar to when Kaiju met the witch."
Qwanisha’s eyes widened. "I-Indeed. It’s similar. What do you think, love?"
Max pondered for a while and nodded. "Given how Kaiju prevents us from healing him, it does seem to be the case."
"B-But, what could be the catalyst?" Lucy wondered. "If it was an apple by the witch, possessing curses to make him suffer and obtain the Curse Resistance... Ah!" Lucy finally connected the dots after glancing at Snow.
Griffin instantly understood Lucy’s reaction. He grinned.
"You really are greedy, Kaiju!"
"Greedy?!" Faith’s golden eyes turned sharp. "That’s a deadly sin!"
"Says the one who fought for food earlier." Griffin snorted.
"T-That’s..." Faith’s cheeks burned. She was about to explain when Qwanisha suddenly exclaimed, "Wait? What are you talking about?"
Lucy hastily explained, discerning Griffin might insult Qwanisha. "It might be the power of a Beastmaster. Snow has Cold Resistance skill and it ascended during our training. To be honest, it was already on the bottleneck and I just helped her with it, causing her to obtain more skills. At that time, Snow suffered from the cold, too."
Qwanisha’s eyes sparkled. She glanced at Kaiju and suddenly exploded in a hoot of laughter. "Serves you right! For being greedy!"
"Indeed. Greedy is a sin and you must pay for it." Faith clasped her hands and closed her eyes.
Griffin glanced at her and snorted. "You really better pray and ask for forgiveness. You might have to pay for the sin."
"It’s fine," replied Faith with a soft tone. "I’ll atone for it."
"So, how many days do Kaiju have to suffer from the cold? I have to train him, you know," said Qwanisha to Lucy.
Lucy tilted her head, ruminating. "Snow suffered a cold in a single day before she recovered. However, she already has Cold Resistance at that time, just that it was elevating. Since Kaiju attempted to obtain a Rare grade Cold Resistance immediately, I estimate it to be... three days or more?"
Lucy stared at Kaiju for a while and sighed. "Perhaps, even a week."
"A week..." Qwanisha sighed. "There can be many happenings in just a single day, much less a week."
Silence ensued. Suddenly, Max suggested, "How about this? You train his pet first. Teach them how to coordinate each other so by the time Kaiju recovers, it will be easy for him to adapt to their synergy."
Qwanisha nodded but then shook her head. "That’s a great idea but... I can’t communicate with the beast."
"You can buy a beast communication skill in the store, aunt," said Faith. "I bought it just so I can communicate with Little Gorilla."
"I-It’s only five gold coins," said Lucy. "I bought it so I can understand Snow and train her better."
"Five gold coins..." Qwanisha pondered. "Just a common grade. Alright, I’ll buy it and train them for a week."
Qwanisha turned to Max and said, "You will be guarding Kaiju while he’s recuperating. The rest, you grind and be ready after three months."
Griffin and others nodded. They knew they had to train more, to at least increase their survival by three percent in the Burg’s raid. Adding to the twenty percent chances of survival, and ten percent chances of even snatching a single treasure, it assured them that they could survive despite the meager chances.
"W-We will meet again in three months," Lucy said and then waved her staff, disappearing.
Griffin did not say anything but left as well, leaving behind Faith. Faith first bid farewell to Little Gorilla. She moved forward and whispered in his ear, "Don’t forget to convince your Master to convert to Our religion."
Little Gorilla hastily nodded and assured her, seemingly wanting to get rid of her already.
Faith smiled brightly and walked towards the forest and disappeared. Qwanisha, after buying the beast communication skill from the store, walked forward and attempted to communicate with them.
"I know you know your master is fine. Worrying for him will lead to nothing. I’ll train you while waiting for him to recover. Is that fine? Both of you?"
Even without the beast’s communication skill, the beast could understand him. However, through the beast’s communication skill, Qwanisha could grasp their replies.
"It’s fine. My master instructed us to follow you," said Snow, seemingly the big sister to them. Little Gorilla glanced at her and then nodded to Qwanisha, still continuing to massage his master.
Qwanisha’s eyes sparkled, marveled by the idea of communicating with Snow and Little Gorilla. To be honest, she found them adorable, wanting to be their acquaintance already. However, she has to be serious towards them since they would be training under her.
"Alright. If It’s possible, we will go now. Uncle Max will look after your master."
Snow and Little Gorilla unwillingly left their master and arrived beside Qwanisha. They then bowed in front of Max, saying, "Please look after him, Big Brother Max."
Max couldn’t comprehend their words but he perceived their intention, nodding in response as he smiled.
Snow then turned to Qwanisha and said, "Let’s go, Auntie. I can’t wait to surprise, Master, with our improvements!"
Snow then hummed in delight, slithering forward to the forest in a random direction.
"Auntie..." Qwanisha couldn’t even be mad at Snow, with how adorable she
