Chapter 37: Waiting For That Day

Chapter 37: Waiting For That Day

Kaiju and Griffin soon arrived on the main base. Kaiju was familiar with the environment, and ignoring the fact that Griffin leaned on a gargantuan tree, closing his eyes while waiting, he was certain this was the place he interacted with them.

Kaiju peeked at Griffin. He tried to sense first if Griffin wanted to be disturbed or not, but since, out of curiosity, he wanted to ask a question and perceiving Griffin was fine to have a conversation, he asked, "Don’t you all stay with each other?"

Griffin opened his eyes, glanced at Kaiju indifferently, and closed them again, mumbling, "After three months we were trained by Qwanisha, she confidently ordered us to be independent and must explore the place by ourselves. Hence, we have our own base. She was not even content and instructed us to be far from them, as though she was abandoning us. That was why we arrived late after you met with the other races."

Kaiju nodded in understanding.

"To be honest, you are lucky, yet unlucky to meet them. I’ve been wanting to meet them, but it seems they cover their tracks so well. Well, if they wanted to, they would."

Kaiju thought for a while and replied, "Perhaps, they have their own agenda, too."

Griffin laughed half-heartedly.

"They have... plotting against each other."

Kaiju recalled his teacher’s lesson. He wanted to talk about it more with Griffin, who possibly has more knowledge than his teacher.

"My teacher once said that higher races due to their constant wars became one of the main reasons why we are still alive and even contend with them in some parts of the Tower. Why won’t they just band with each other and annihilate us or some other races?"

"Band together?" Griffin snorted. "As if they will."

Kaiju nodded. Indeed, from what his teacher had said, higher races had innate hatred for other higher races causing them to be always at war, even territorial disputes. They did not obviously have time to be bothered by humans–although a race that could potentially surpass them, they were still on the lower part of the food chain, so they would rather utilize their time to fight against other races.

"Also, like humans, they also have their own inner conflicts. At most, they will instantly kill humans, manipulate them, or whatever they will do once they spot one. But, to pursue it until not one left? I doubt that."

For some reason, Kaiju could perceive Griffin’s deep hatred of the other higher races. From what he knew about his teacher, Griffin tends to be conceited, egotistic, and often arrogant. He assumed that since higher races have absolute power and innate talent than humans, his principle might have been disturbed by them.

All of a sudden, Kaiju had a very interesting wonder.

"What if a day comes where they will band together to hunt every human in the Tower?" It was just a passing thought question that was blurted out of the blue, but, as Kaiju glanced at Griffin, he was startled by Griffin’s smile.

"I will be looking forward to it, then."

Kaiju was stunned. His thoughts ran wild. ’Will it really happen?’ He thought. After all, it came from Griffin himself, a son of the Ascendant, who possessed information that people like him could not access. Perhaps, Griffin’s father, the Ascendant, was already making preparations but such information should only be limited to the higher ups.

Kaiju didn’t know whether to laugh or cry now that he obtained such information. Should he be thankful now that he might have to consider himself among the higher ups worthy enough to obtain the information?

However, as though reading his thoughts, Griffin said, "You are overthinking it. I too just wondered if such a day would happen. I just want to fight those stronger than me."

Kaiju stared at him and saw he was surprised, even his viridescent eyes sparked with mischievousness, causing him to heave a sigh of relief. Kaiju ruminated about the topic and said, "If such a day really happens, I hope I’m stronger to fight with you."

Griffin was taken aback, and then nodded. "You will be. I guess, just be ready."

"What are you talking about?" A feminine, matured voice intervened in their conversation.

Kaiju was startled but Griffin kept his composure. He indifferently turned his head and glanced at Qwanisha standing on a branch of a gargantuan tree. She was silent like an owl, giving goosebumps to them. Thankfully, as both were distracted by their conversation, Qwanisha was not their enemy.

Griffin turned his head away from Qwanisha and closed his eyes, relaxing his back by leaning against the tree trunk. Qwanisha anticipated Griffin’s attitude, so the entire time, she was looking at Kaiju after asking a question.

Kaiju’s eyes lit up to see Qwanisha. She was still the same as before, deadly-beautiful, but this time, there was a conspicuous massive object behind her back, an exquisite jade bow. Kaiju speculated it should be Rare grade. There was a quiver too, on each of her waist.

A three horn massive wild boar on her right hand conveyed she must have just got back from the hunting. Kaiju’s stomach grumbled, almost forgetting to answer Qwanisha’s question.

He hastily replied, "We were just wondering what would we do if the other higher races banded together to annihilate us, our race."

Qwanisha was taken aback. She jumped and appeared before them, throwing the massive wild boar in front of Griffin and ignored him. Griffin liked how Qwanisha treated him as he opened his eyes, stared at the massive wild boar, three times his size, indifferently.

Qwanisha replied to Kaiju, "How about you? What will you do?"

Kaiju quickly replied, "Fight against them."

Qwanisha nodded. "Yeah, you just want to survive, after all."

Kaiju nodded.

Qwanisha tilted her head and then stared at the blue moon on the east, pondering. She sighed.

"If it ever happens, just like you, I just want to survive. Even if I know how difficult they are to deal with, I will fight against them even if my death is certain."

Kaiju replied, "It’s in our nature to survive and progress, aunt Qwanisha. We will always fight back. We don’t want to lose."

Qwanisha laughed and then smacked his head lightly, causing Kaiju to moan in pain, while clutching his head.

"You already know the answer. And stop calling me aunt, call me big sister."

"You are too old to be called big sister, you old hag!"

"WHAT?!" Qwanisha flew into rage as she turned her head and stared at Griffin.

Kaiju perceived the madness radiated by Qwanisha as he took a step backward and glanced at Griffin. However, he was surprised there was already a massive pot being placed atop of a burning bonfire. He was even more startled to see Griffin wearing an apron, though styled with a green dragon circling around it.

Griffin was indifferently staring at Qwanisha and snorted.

"Y-You!!!" Qwanisha trembled while pointing towards Griffin, lost for words. As much as she wanted Griffin to learn a lesson, she was more distracted by the boiling massive pot, as saliva was beginning to drop from her mouth.

Kaiju peeked at her and saw the saliva, heaving a sigh of relief. At least, Griffin was safe after insulting the old... big sister, he meant.
