Chapter 36: Indebtedness

Chapter 36: Indebtedness

"Let’s assess your battle earlier," said Griffin solemnly.

Kaiju’s countenance turned solemn, too, waiting for Griffin to share his feedback on Kaiju’s battle earlier. Kaiju took the battle seriously, despite appearing to be playing with the Thrall. It was obvious that Thrall couldn’t defeat him, that was why they had chosen the time it would berserk to increase the difficulty. He was anticipating the feedback from Griffin. It always had been, but he learned a lot from the latter’s feedback so he was extremely looking forward to it.

"The Thrall’s instinct escalated when it was about to go berserk, but even then, you still managed to conceal your presence from its vision, taking it by surprise. You have utilized the effects of Bloodthorn, making you sever its head as its sharpness soared. You have parried every Thrall’s attacks, but I must warn you, you should avoid doing it since dodging is much better for you, with the effects of the Shadoweave battlegarb.

Out of all that, what I liked the most was how you utilized your new Rare artifact when you appeared in mid-air. To be honest, I don’t recommend you appearing in mid-air, unless you have skills that could gain you footing while in the air. Of course, once, like what you did, is an exception.

What was the effect of your new Rare artifact again?"

"Umbral step," Kaiju quickly replied.

Griffin nodded. "I have noticed every one of your movements was planned. You are presently three steps ahead in the battle."

Kaiju’s eyes gleamed in excitement.

"Of course, compared to mine, I am more than ten steps ahead."

Kaiju was somewhat depressed.

"I was just telling you not to be conceited." Griffin shook his head, trying to erase his image on his head after giving Kaiju’s advice. "Let’s go back to the topic. As far as I recall, the Umbral step has restrictions–it can only be teleported within 5 meters and there should be a shadow around your size. You’ve utilized it really well.

Your performance is... excellent!"

Kaiju couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear.

Kaiju could remember Griffin’s ratings of his performance–worst, acceptable, good, and now excellent. Perhaps, the last would be ’perfect’. Kaiju recalled he received the ’worst’ rating from him and compared it to now. He was ecstatic.

"You didn’t even use the Swift Dash skill and just relied on your speed to keep disappearing from its vision. You also deliberately ran through the shadows, dimming your presence..." Griffin continued and seemed to not be finished.

This was the type of yapping Kaiju extremely liked. Kaiju continued to listen, hoping it would last more. After all, compared to the previous scolding he received, the current one was filled with more compliments, satisfying him.

At some point, Griffin said, "I think your Basic Dagger Mastery is reaching the limits. However, breaking through to the Advance Mastery might be too difficult. You can ask for some pointers once you feel it."

Kaiju’s eyes suddenly sparkled with understanding.

"So, Teacher’s mastery of the sword is advanced, too?"

Griffin snorted. "Don’t underestimate me. It’s even about to reach its limit."

"Amazing..." Kaiju mumbled. He could not exaggerate his reaction as it might appear not genuine. After all, the long-term psychological impact of overusing the Emotionless skill lessened the intensity of his emotional reaction. Nevertheless, his reaction was sufficient in satisfying Griffin.

"What I really aimed for in the first place was to increase your mastery in daggers. Your battle style, I just guided you to find yours. I think I have accomplished it. That will be all for my training. You can ask me for pointers in the future but I won’t be training you anymore," Griffin said seriously.

He felt a bit sad to part with Kaiju since he had taken a liking towards him. Kaiju was his first disciple and he did not hold back on teaching him. He might be jealous of Kaiju’s rapid growth, as indeed he meant it when he claimed Kaiju’s talent was higher than him, he was not that petty to destroy his foundation. He even hoped Kaiju would become his rival to surge his motivation to become stronger.

Furthermore, Kaiju’s character was not bad. He was honest, grateful, and determined. Unlike Faith and Lucy.

Griffin was suddenly awakened from his reverie.

"Thank you, Teacher!" Kaiju kowtowed in front of Griffin after shouting.

Griffin stared at him in surprise. For someone to kowtow him like that... it wasn’t abnormal. In fact, many people, ever since he was a kid, kowtowed asking for forgiveness. Of course, there were some who thanked him, but they weren’t oddly satisfying and genuine like what Kaiju had just done.

’Is this... satisfaction?’ Griffin thought to himself.

Perhaps, he trained Kaiju for three months, observed him closely, guided him, and gave everything he could have as his teacher–with all that reason, it was justifiable he felt satisfied.

He smiled.

"Stand up. Remember this..." Griffin stared at Kaiju’s eyes seriously after the latter just tilted his head to meet his eyes. "Don’t kowtow to someone until they offer you something more than I did. I won’t forget this. I accept your gratitude."

Kaiju nodded and stood up. He made a profound bow again and replied, "Understood, Teacher."

Griffin nodded and turned his back against him. "Let’s go then, to meet your pets. You will be Qwanisha’s guidance from now on."

Kaiju stared at his back for a while. Griffin started to walk and he followed behind his back. Kaiju suddenly felt like reminiscing about those days he trained with Griffin. Griffin did not hold back at all, pushing his body to the limits. There was even a time he vomited and then fainted from the intensity of the training before he awoke and then trained once again.

Although his attribute points increased due to the Gacha Draws, after spending three thousand luck points, some increased due to the training. Kaiju also didn’t want to waste his Luck Points, so he utilized Griffin’s training to increase it. It was rewarding, as a result.

While they were walking back to the main base, Kaiju took a peek at his current attributes.

’They were reaching almost fifty points...’ Kaiju beamed a bright smile.
