Chapter 122: The Black Werewolf
Chapter 122: The Black Werewolf
"So, you’re saying that you tamed not one, but two Epic grade artifacts? You do know that it will be difficult for us to wear Epic grade artifacts due to our rank, right? Aren’t you a beast tamer?"
Kaiju couldn’t keep up with Griffin’s endless questions. The questions were not entirely connected to each other.
However, he was patient when it came to his Teacher.
"Teacher, at first, I was in trouble when I wore the Ring of The Eternal Night. I was blessed with lady luck as I was able to max out my mana points, enabling it to tame the overwhelming mana of the artifact.
Then, after careful consideration of my greediness, I tried to wear the Nocturne Veil, and, as expected, I was able to wear it without problem, as well. The main reason for that, aside from maxing my mana points, was my compatibility with the element of the artifact–the shadow mana.
This also provides us the idea that Vladislaus not only is able to manipulate blood like any vampires do, he also has affinity with the shadow element–only nobles in the vampire race could have double elemental affinity."
Griffin pondered with a serene expression. However, his emotion was in turmoil, his ego was crushed. My pupil is stronger than me now? Damn it. So, he’s telling me he maxed out his mana points? How?! Furthermore, the way he moved, he is fast, he also seems to carry a heavy weight. Does this mean, he maxed out all of his attribute points? How is that possible?!
After all, it took them more than a year, two years in fact, to max out their attribute points. They already have Legendary Class like Kaiju and now, the latter surpassed them in a year? Furthermore, Kaiju was so lucky to be chosen by two Epic grade artifacts, at that. He obviously was stronger than any creatures in the Trial, except the person Kaiju feared.
Griffin wanted to find out Kaiju’s secret so badly, but he restrained himself. If I know too much, I might lose control of myself due to greediness and envy. I must keep my dignity. If he is stronger than me now, so be it. I was stronger than him before he became stronger than me, who said I will not be able to achieve what he did?
Griffin finally settled his chaotic thoughts and focused on Vladislaus’ matter. He glanced at Vladislaus’ coffin and could barely handle the aura it was emitting. If it was not for the wind disrupting the thick aura with extreme oppressive effects, he might have felt suffocated and left already.
I can’t defeat that monster alone. Griffin was aware of his limits, but, like any human carrying a pride, he wanted to break it and reach higher heights. He desired, not only to become strong, but to be stronger than any creatures he met.
He asked, "How confident are you to defeat that monster if we worked together?"
Kaiju glanced at the coffin and said, "To be honest, I am confident I can take that monster alone–of course, based on the fact I am carrying two Epic grades artifacts and two beasts with bloodline awakening. However, I was meaning to say that I could battle it for dozens of minutes alone, with my pets. As for defeating and killing it, I really do need some help."
He then stared at his Teacher and his face turned solemn. "I am afraid I only need not you, Teacher, but more. Perhaps, us human race will do, but... ever since Aqua and Zephyr died, I have been worrying about the state of our teammates."
"Aqua and Zephyr died?" Griffin was taken aback.
Suddenly, a fiery snake’s head popped up out of Griffin’s nape, staring at Kaiju in shock.
Kaiju already noticed Ember’s presence, but, since Griffin stated he was taking a rest after making him fight a Crimson Knight alone as a form of training, he restrained from disturbing him, not telling about Aqua and Zephyr death, sharing Kaiju’s current state, instead.
Kaiju could admit that mentioning about the death of Aqua and Zephyr slipped out of his mind, but he knew, delaying it would only provide more harm than good. Not only Ember has to be aware, but Griffin, as well.
Aqua and Zephyr accompanied Lucy and Qwanisha and others, after all.
"What happened?" Ember asked, his voice trembled.
Griffin went silent, letting Ember conversed with Kaiju. Ember sat on Griffin’s shoulder, while his eyes were glued to Kaiju, screaming for answers.
Kaiju glanced at his expression and felt guilty.
He sighed. "To be honest, I don’t know. I suddenly feel like my connection with them as my tamed beasts suddenly disappeared. Even when I asked the Ga–Tower to show the current status of Zephyr and Aqua, it was not able to since their information just disappeared.
The only conclusion would be... they died."
"How is that possible?!" Ember asked.
Kaiju did not reply. What could he say? Tell him about his speculations that lacked solid evidence?
Kaiju sighed and reminded Ember of Herforao’s mission.
"Have you forgotten when your Master told you how perilous to be my tamed beasts? I don’t blame them and their current companions, I am just meaning to say that with the current time, death... is inevitable."
Kaiju’s face turned grave after what he said.
Griffin and Ember felt the gravity of his words, as their faces turned solemn.
Ember lowered his head, trying to compose himself. Griffin glanced at him in pity.
He then focused on Kaiju and asked, "So, what are your speculations about their death?"
"As always, she will not be out of the equation."
Griffin nodded. "I thought the same."
However, his eyes suddenly widened and asked, "Do you think–"
"I thought the same." Kaiju bitterly smiled. "I could feel Aqua’s stable emotion before he died, making it likely it was Lucy who killed him. In addition, Zephyr was clearly disturbed before he died. There is a high possibility that Lucy killed Aqua, then followed Zephyr.
However, it is still difficult to trust that assumption as it still leaves many questions. Who said that the Lucy, Herforao feared, was not able to kill Aqua in an instant? Who said that Lucy has a straightforward personality? She might be playing with Zephyr and Qwanisha while taking Lucy and Aqua seriously.
Furthermore, I still believe in my intuition that Lucy is not the same Lucy that I and Herforao feared.
We will find out soon if–"
"If they manage to stay alive, I know." Griffin’s face turned ugly.
Just imagining Qwanisha and others dying made his heart ache. However, he still believed they should be able to survive... or he might just be gaslighting himself.
Griffin was then awakened by the aura Kaiju emitting–most of them, especially the oppressive effects, came from the Ring of the Eternal Night. He resisted the temptation to stare at it while feeling envious of Kaiju’s luck.
He shook his head, getting rid of the unnecessary thoughts.
He asked, "So, we have no choice but to wait for them? Did you not think of finding them?"
Kaiju’s eyes widened. He bitterly smiled. "You do know how large the burg is. We might encounter the other races and exhausted ourselves before fighting Vladislaus. That is a very disagreeable situation.
I still believe they will be able to somehow arrive here."
Suddenly, footsteps echoed, entering their ears. Kaiju and Griffin simultaneously turned their heads and glanced at the hallway on the east side, fifteen meters away from them.
Their conversation stopped, silence ensued, but, as though sensing something, the owner of the footsteps halted.
It suddenly howled at the top of its lungs, and soon, numerous footsteps echoed in different hallways near it, entering Vladislaus’ resting place.
Kaiju and others heightened their guard. Griffin smirked while unsheathing his rapper.
"Speak of the devils. Who would have thought they act so fast?"
Kaiju nodded. "Are you not worried at all?"
"Your worries are superfluous."
Kaiju ignored Griffin’s deep words, squinting his eyes to stare at the hallways where he felt which among the werewolves were the strongest.
His eyes glued to a specific hallway, where a black werewolf manifested, seemingly panting in exasperation.
Kaiju could feel the dangerous aura emitting by the black werewolf, and it soared when he met his raging eyes.
That guy must be the leader! He is so strong! Kaiju was surprised.
He did not expect he was a bit scared after seeing the other higher races after wearing two Epic grade artifacts. It showed how strong the leaders of the werewolves races were.
Kaiju scrutinized the werewolves, he was as taller and as bulker as the Crimson Knights. He also wore a Rare grade heavy armor, yet it appeared it was as light as a feather due to his monstrous strength.
Werewolves innate talent lies on their berserk, having different stages. Their body would also react to the berserk–elongating and sharpening their claws and teeth, strengthening their muscles and fiber, enhancing their concentration, in contrast to vampires that would lose their reasoning when entering berserk, and augmenting their magic skills.
Coupled with their sheer quantity, the werewolves race were among the races that stood at the peak of the hierarchy in the Tower.
Even so, Kaiju was confident, not blindly so but with facts, he could still take down the werewolf if he went all out. Of course, Snow and Little Gorilla had to participate in the battle since he was a beast tamer, not an assassin or swordsman by profession.
However, that was a single glance assessment. Life and death battles have always been unpredictable.
Kaiju then turned to his teacher and observed his reaction. He knew that despite becoming stronger than his teacher, the latter was not to be underestimated. Like the black werewolf, Kaiju was only confident to defeat Griffin if he went all out with his pets.
Meanwhile, Griffin stared at the black werewolf with a grave countenance.
He thought. That guy is ridiculously strong, but... He smirked, trying to restrain his excitement. He is as strong as me. He can put up a fight against me. I don’t have to hold back when fighting him at all!
