Darcy and Archie had both gone completely quiet. No bickering, no side comments. Just the sounds of rapid clicks and key presses, their full attention on the screen. Their champions, Xin Zhao and Akali, moved with sharp, efficient purpose. No hesitation. No wasted motions.

Micah watched them through narrowed eyes as he guided Nami along the riverbank. He could tell just by the way they moved. They weren’t playing for fun.

Micah floated Nami toward the top lane, her staff glowing with ocean blue light as she glided over the river. He cast Ebb and Flow, the wave leaping between Aatrox and the enemy Camille. The heal connected with CozyAssassin just as he dove in for the fight.

The enemy team wasn’t a joke. Two platinum players, two gold, and one silver. That was way higher than what Micah usually queued into. He bit the inside of his cheek, knowing this wasn’t going to be a chill match.

He knew that in the end, if they wanted to win fast, he would have to help Darcy and Archie. Micah swallowed down his dissatisfaction.

"Let me know when you need me," Micah said into the headset, his voice low and calm.

There was a pause.

Then a new voice came through, light, girly, and unexpected. "Hey, can you help me with the tower again?" RangerHan said sweetly.

Micah flinched so hard his fingers slipped, and Nami accidentally auto-attacked a full health minion. Oh no. OH NO.

His blood turned cold.

He meant Darcy and Archie! He slammed a hand to his forehead. God! They had been talking in the Allied chat! Not party. Which meant the other two players, RangerHan and CozyAssassin had heard everything. All the cringy stuff earlier. The argument between Archie and Darcy. The stuff about who was carrying whom. The MVP bet.

Micah’s face turned red from the embarrassment.

God! Just send the heavenly retribution thunder and kill him! Fuck! His reputation! It was bad enough that he was famous as a trashy player, now what strange nickname would be stuck to him?!

These two!

Micah hissed out a breath through his teeth. "I’m on my way," he said stiffly and guided Nami back down the lane toward the bot side tower, fingers stiff with irritation.

Up in mid lane, Darcy’s champion, Akali, paused for a split second when he heard Micah’s angry voice. Darcy knew he had messed up. Micah had thin skin when it came to saving face in front of others. He surely would lose his temper if another wrong move or a careless comment were made. So he clamped his mouth, deciding to keep quiet.

Archie, on the other hand, glanced over at Micah’s champion, Nami firing an accidental attack on a minion. He heard the shift in Micah’s tone, but his understanding didn’t run as deep as Darcy’s. He didn’t realise Micah wasn’t just annoyed. He was humiliated.

Still, Darcy and Archie didn’t stop. Their race was on. Archie pushed the jungle hard, his Xin Zhao dove into camps, spear flashing as he dashed through waves of minions. After each clear, he rotated fast, checking lanes, tracking Vi’s movement, waiting for a mistake.

Darcy, meanwhile, ruled mid lane with icy precision. His champion, Akali, floated around the edge of vision, vanishing into enemy’s lane at the perfect moment, poking with Five point strike, then disappearing again before Annie could retaliate.

Micah rubbed his forehead in annoyance. He just wanted to end the game quickly and go offline. He didn’t dare to open All chat. Not after that mess earlier. What if one of his teammates spilled the beans there?

He winced. And as if the universe was trying to crush him further, he remembered.

Fuck! What should he do about Friday?

For god sake, it was his birthday. And Darcy too...

Morning attending the tournament, evening the birthday banquet.

Micah felt he should cry for his pitiful self.

"Nami," Darcy’s voice cut in, calm and steady. "Come to the river."

Micah blinked. His fingers jumped into action. He turned his camera to the mid lane.

Darcy was setting up a gank. Annie had just overextended past the halfway point of the lane.

Micah moved Nami closer. Positioned her just behind the bushes near the river bend.

Akali struck, slicing Annie’s health bar in half with perfect timing.

"Now!" Darcy said sharply.

Micah’s Nami fired off Aqua Prison. The bubble hit this time. Annie was stunned.

Akali dove in again with a spinning strike, and Annie fell.

First blood. DarkLegend had slain BossWitch.

Darcy didn’t say a word. He simply pushed the lane and vanished back into the fog, heading top to scout.

Micah blinked, realising how easily he had supported Darcy. He had always been in sync with him.

He returned Nami back to the tower in a daze.

He thought Archie would call him next, but the headset stayed quiet.

Vi, the enemy Jungler, had already ambushed RangerHan once in bot land and nearly destroyed the outer turret. Micah arrived just in time to fend her off with Tidal Wave. Micah exhaled slowly. That was too close. He needed to be focused.

Archie had also finished his full jungle clear, and begun to attack the enemy’s support, Seraphine. But did not call Micah. Watching how Darcy moved, how perfectly he timed his steps, how he adapted to every gank, Archie knew he had underestimated him. That annoying dark-haired boy wasn’t actually gold rank. Maybe his assumption was correct. Darcy was DarkVyne.

His jaw clenched. He had been fooled by the two of them.

He was more sure with every passing moment. He had played against DarkVyne. He knew his style. It was probably because of that that Micah had insisted on being on Darcy’s team.

But he didn’t call on their lie. He didn’t want to make Micah more dissatisfied with himself than he already was.

He just wanted to get the MVP title and secure Micah’s place on his team.

There was no communication in the Allied chat after that. All of them played in silence.

Five minutes later, the endgame approached fast. Darcy and Archie took down the enemy’s tower and finally, the nexus exploded.

Victory.

The screen faded to the scoreboard.

MVP: ShadowSlayer (Xin Zhao)

Archie. Of course.

Darcy’s name sat just under Archie’s. Two kills. Zero deaths. Four assists.

Micah sighed. He tugged off his headset and stared at the screen, the Victory banner already fading. The win didn’t feel like a win. He clicked out of the game without hesitation.

He didn’t want to hear Archie’s annoying voice, claiming to have won the bet.

Just making it through the match without snapping had already pushed him to his limit. He had had enough of Archie for one day.
