Chapter 183: Nami Needs a Break (part 2)

The match finally loaded up.

Micah leaned back in his chair, stretching his fingers before placing them lightly on his keyboard. His dorm room was quiet. The only sounds were the voices in his headset and the tapping of his keyboard.

The loading screen was filled with champions, player ranks, and tiny icons displaying favourite lanes and titles. Micah’s eyes locked on the tags beside the usernames.

He had checked Darcy’s rank earlier. DarkLegend: Gold Rank.

Archie’s Alt, ShadowSlayer, was even higher. Emerald.

Micah exhaled through his nose, already feeling the pressure build. That combo alone meant the enemy team would be much stronger than in his last match with Archie, where their teammates had been silver rank like himself. Back then, the match had been awkward enough, especially when his attack had missed the enemy and he had been nearly killed.

This time, it wasn’t just Darcy. Their top lane, CozyAssassin, was gold as well.

So Micah had naively suggested they use Allied chat and invite the other two players into voice. Honestly, he didn’t want a repeat of the match he played in the internet cafe. Better to loop in the other players early, make sure everyone was on the same page.

FrostbiteAshe: Support/ Nami

ShadowSlayer: Jungler/ Xin Zhao

DarkLegend: Mid Lane/ Akali

CozyAssassin: Top lane/ Aatrox

RangerHan: Bot Lane/ Amumu

As the Rift appeared on screen and characters spawned, both Archie and Darcy spoke at the same time.

"Come with me, Nami."

Micah sighed when he heard them say that. "I stay in the back. You two go do your things," he replied, voice flat.

He absolutely wouldn’t be involved in what strange nonsense they were playing. What was it? Were they showing off? These two hateful OP players had the nerve to drag him into their rivalry.

Oh right, neither of them even knew they had played against each other before. Darcy had no clue Archie was DiabolicDestroyer from the last time they played. And Archie didn’t know Darcy was DarkVyne. So why were they itching to compete? Was this some kind of weird attention grab?

Micah furrowed his brow and ran a hand through his hair.

Don’t tell him it was one of those enemies-to-lovers plotlines Aria always squealed about with her friends?! The kind where rivals circled each other like wolves until one confessed.

He shook that thought away. He had changed the plot. The first time Archie saw Darcy was in that alley when he was desperate for someone to help him. In that version, of course, Archie would have fallen head over heels for his saviour, Darcy. But now, the two had met each other two years earlier. Was it because of that they reacted to each other differently? Honestly, he preferred them hating each other over being attracted. But the story had not been started. So, nothing was set in stone.

A voice broke his line of thought.

"Why?" Archie asked in voice chat, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Was it bad last time?"

"No," Micah replied dryly.

Darcy’s voice followed smoothly. "FrostbiteAshe prefers to assist at the end."

"Oh, really? How many times did you guys play together?" Archie’s tone was suddenly sharp, layered with challenge. "Not that it matters. An amateur guy like you, it won’t make a difference how much he supports you. You’ll surely be eliminated halfway through the game."

"Then how about a bet? Whoever gets MVP wins?" Darcy said, his voice cold.

"Oh? How cocky! Do you even know who I am?" Archie laughed. "I’m a pro, kid."

"Yeah. I have heard," Darcy replied flatly.

Micah cringed. These two idiots! Clashing in the middle of the match, not over strategy, but over who could "carry" him better. MVP this, support that.

"Fine. Whoever gets MVP, FrostbiteAshe goes with him on Friday..." Archie declared, then paused, noticing that Micah’s champion wasn’t on the screen.

Micah had moved his champion Nami straight toward the tank, sticking close to the tower line. His little fish-shaped champion was bouncing up and down with a trail of bubbles. Not even waiting for their nonsense to end.

No way was he getting involved in whatever rivalry those two were having.

MVP? Ha! Those two monsters. Let those two have their stupid bet. He was sticking with RangerHan, who at least seemed sane, like someone who actually wanted to win.

He, who was famous as a trashy account, had always been trying not to get killed in the first two minutes, and these two were arguing about who could be the MVP!

Not that he was jealous or anything! Hmph!

Darcy let out a sigh. He had been caught up too deep in this shit. "Sorry, Nami. We will go now."

His Akali turned sharply and disappeared into the mid lane.

Archie glared at Darcy’s avatar. This scheming guy! Acting calm and mature.

He didn’t say anything as his Xin Zhao headed into the jungle.

None of them seemed to remember their voices were coming through the Allied chat.

The other two players were so shocked, they could not speak. What did they hear just now? Who were these three people?

ShadowSlayer was a professional player? Why didn’t they hear that name?

CozyAssassin, the top laner, paused his Aatrox behind the turret andquickly messaged his friend.

[private chat] CozyAssassin: Go ask who these three accounts are.

He typed the IDs into the chat page.

VenomPuppy: Roger!

A few seconds later:

[All] VenomPuppy: Anyone know who ShadowSlayer is? Or DarkLegend? FrostbiteAshe?

[All] BeautyMana: why? What’s the scoop?

[All] DefenseGurly: Frosty?! Is he online?

[All] ChunkyGear: ShadowSlayer? I think he is from the SilverBlade Legion.

[All] KillerKitten: No way! I’ll check with my friend.

[All] PlainPrivilege: Wait where is DarkVyne? Wasn’t he always with FrostbiteAshe?

[All] VenomPuppy: No, the three are on my friend’s team. No DarkVyne.

[All] SplatterDemons: Did he change his partner? They always queued together.

[All] BeautyMana: Oh! Juicy!

[All] DefenseGurly: Noway!Myship! Who is the home wrecker? Who broke them up?

[All] ChunkyGear: Who cares about that trash account?

[All] DefenseGurly: DarkVyne cares! Be careful not to get his wrath for insulting his beloved.

[All] KillerKitten: ShadowSlayer is legit from SilverBlade!

[All] SplatterDemons: Oh, Frosty had found another strong player to hug his thigh.

[All] EasySweep: What are you talking about? Maybe they randomly matched up?

[All] VenomPuppy: No. They were fighting over Frosty. Who gets to carry him.

[All] DefenseGurly: Noooo...😭😭

[All] BeautyMana: Oh my god! I want to see Frosty! What an incubus!

[All] NinjaInPajamas: Frosty is a guy, right?!

Meanwhile, in the match, Micah had no idea that he had become some kind of siren luring top players into battle over him. That he had officially been labelled as the Helen of Troy of LOJ. Micah was diligently helping Amumu set up vision. He placed a ward near Baron, pinged once, then floated behind Aatrox like a loyal little mermaid, away from the storm brewing between his two suitors- ahem, teammates.
