Chapter 182: Nami Needs a Break (part 1)
Darcy stared at the screen, his jaw tight, lips pressed in a hard line. The green dot next to Micah’s name blinked steadily. Had he already been in a match with Archie? Had this pro player carried Micah in the game?
His stomach twisted a little.
Darcy clicked his tongue and leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. A bad feeling filled his chest. What if they clicked? What if they played well together? Would Micah still be excited to team up with him after that? Wasn’t Archie the Captain? If that Vice Captain of SilverBlade Legion, DiabolicDestroyer, was that strong, what about their captain?!
And when had Micah even thought of this plan to shift attention? Darcy was sure it hadn’t come from Micah. This sounded like Archie’s idea.
He had always suspected Archie was into Micah. That night in the gym storage room, when they were hiding and waiting for Ashley and Russell to finish talking, Archie hadn’t taken his eyes off Micah. Not once. It made Darcy’s skin crawl.
He took a deep breath to settle himself, then leaned forward and typed into the chat.
DarkVyne: Is it okay if I join you now?
FrostbiteAshe: Sure. But with your alt.
DarkVyne: Okay. I’ll log off and come with my alt. It’s DarkLegend.
Micah stared at the message. His lips twitched slightly, almost amused. What was with Darcy and the word "Dark"? DarkVyne, DarkLegend, even his WeChat ID had dark in it. DescendantoftheDarkOne.
In the SilverBlade Legion training Camp, Archie shifted in his seat. He had been waiting, the headset still on, but the silence was starting to stretch. Micah didn’t speak for a long time. He could hear the faint typing sound of a keyboard. Micah was chatting with someone.
Archie’s brows furrowed. Who was he texting?
He narrowed his eyes. Maybe it was that annoying guy. What was his name? DarkVyne. The one who always played games with Micah.
He didn’t like it. Micah’s attention was supposed to be on him. Not another guy.
He clenched his jaw.
"Micah," Archie said, trying to keep his tone light. "Want to play another round or not?"
Micah stopped typing mid-sentence and adjusted his headset, clearing his throat. "Yeah. I am just waiting for my friend to get online. You know Darcy, right? He’s gonna join us. You don’t mind, do you?"
Archie gritted his teeth. "No. If you want to..." he mumbled.
But he absolutely did mind. Darcy was always around Micah. Like a big bug that wouldn’t go away. And now Micah was bringing him into their game?
Micah, meanwhile, was focused on making sure everything stayed smooth. He had already told Darcy to use his alternative account. The last thing he wanted was for Archie to realise Darcy was DarkVyne, the player with Diamond rank everyone wanted to poach. The one with terrifying mechanics and smart map sense.
Fingers crossed, Darcy would stay on his promise to play low-key.
DarkLegend: Add me.
Micah quickly accepted the friend request and invited Darcy to the team.
"Archie, this is Darcy. He plays Mid lane." Micah said into the team chat.
Archie raised an eyebrow when he saw the name. DarkLegend? Not DarkVyne?
So he was not really that dark horse of LOJ from last year? The one in the Diamond rank?
He leaned back a little in his chair, feeling more irritated. Great. Now there were two in the game to watch out for.
He really wanted to ask Micah who DarkVyne was. But his pride stopped him. What if Micah said it was none of his business? What if the answer made him more upset?
He wasn’t sure he could control his temper.
"Hey," Dark greeted casually.
Micah sat tensely in his chair. His attention was all on the two. He didn’t want to miss anything in their tone or reaction. Would it be a spark? Like in that gym storage room? Even though Darcy denied it that day, Micah was still afraid these two would be attracted to each other like in the novel.
Archie didn’t say a word to Darcy. "Let’s queue for the next match."
"Okay," Micah said. Then typed to Darcy in private chat.
FrostbiteAshe: He is so rude! Wanna make an excuse and leave?
DarkLegend: Nah. I want to play. It’s a good practice for Friday.
Micah’s fingers froze mid-type.
FrostbiteAshe: Crap. I didn’t tell him that.
DarkLegend: I’ll do it myself.
Darcy spoke in the chat group. "Senior, I heard there is an inter-university tournament. How can I join?"
Archie snapped the lollipop stick in his hand with a soft crack. This guy!
He knew he was glued to Micah. But not to this extent.
He rolled his eyes and forced his voice to stay level. "Just register on the website. You can make a team on that day or get randomly assigned."
"Great. Darcy will be with me, then." Micah said brightly.
Archie stared at the screen as if he could put some sense into Micah. His tone was sharp. "But you promised to be on my team."
Micah paused. "Does it matter?"
Archie’s voice dipped slightly. "Yeah. Wasn’t your plan to stir up another gossip? You can’t do that without using the SilverBlade name, can you?"
Darcy’s voice came again, soft but calm. "That’s okay, Micah. I’m sure someone else will team up with me."
Darcy tapped on the desk, waiting for Micah’s answer.
Micah frowned. He could hear it, the polite tone Darcy used when he was suppressing his feelings. The kind that tried to sound fine but really wasn’t. Micah leaned forward, worried now.
He thought maybe it was better to dismiss this plan. Some teasing and rumours wouldn’t hurt him that much. So what people thought he was gay? Darcy was more important.
"Why can’t we all just be in the same team?" Micah asked, a bit puzzled. "If not, I’d rather not participate at all."
Archie was seething with anger now. Micah... This oblivious boy. Why couldn’t he see it? The way Darcy hovered around him. The fake innocent act. That soft tone. He was using guilt, playing it smart.
"Fine. I’ll see if he’s any good after this match," Archie said. He decided not to give Darcy a chance to show off.
That way he could dismiss him easily and Micah would not insist anymore.
Micah sighed inwardly.
They waited for the match to begin. Micah and Archie still selected the same champion as in the last game.
FrostbiteAshe: Support/ Nami
ShadowSlayer: Jungler/ Xin Zhao
DarkLegend: Mid Lane/ Akali
CozyAssassin: Top lane/ Aatrox
RangerHan: Bot Lane/ Amumu
As the Rift appeared on screen and characters spawned, both Archie and Darcy spoke at the same time.
"Come with me, Nami."
Micah rubbed his forehead in dismay. He knew this was a mistake.
