From Villain to Virtual Sweetheart: The Fake Heir's Grand Scheme(BL) -
Chapter 127: A World of Two
Chapter 127: A World of Two
When the awkward dinner finally ended, Micah jumped up as if the cushion had suddenly caught fire beneath him. He grabbed the empty bowls and spoons too quickly, nearly dropping one on the floor. He mumbled a soft ’Oops’ under his breath and walked out of the room. Finding the public kitchen, Micah quickly rinsed everything in a sink. Fortunately, the kitchen was not crowded. He wasn’t in the mood to fight for an empty spot.
Darcy stayed seated on the floor, watching Micah’s rushed retreat. His face didn’t show much, but his fingers tapped softly against his knee, lost in thought. During dinner, the silence in the room was heavy. Neither of them seemed eager to speak after that awkward conversation.
Micah returned after a few minutes and peeked at Darcy from the corner of his eye while drying the bowls and spoons. His hands fumbled a bit with the dishtowel. He couldn’t look Darcy in the eye for more than a second.
After blurting out that ridiculous question during dinner and then panicking like a moron, he didn’t know how to fix it. Should he bring it up again and explain? Or pretend it never happened? Both options sounded terrible.
Micah pressed his lips together. He felt nervous just thinking about talking to Darcy again. What if he said the wrong thing? What if Darcy asked him why he assumed he liked guys?
Micah wanted to be mute for the rest of the night. Then another thought filled his mind.
What if Darcy thought he was distancing himself by not talking to him?
Micah bit the inside of his cheek. What if Darcy really was upset? What if he thought Micah was judging him or making weird assumptions?
He screamed inwardly from frustration. His tongue really deserved a beating.
Then he looked at the silent Darcy again, hesitantly. He scratched his nose, then adjusted the glasses on his face. But not a word came out.
Darcy’s reaction had thrown him off. Not angry exactly, but... guarded. It made Micah think from another angle. Had he trusted the novel too much? Maybe things were already changing.
Maybe there was hope for a better ending. Maybe Darcy wouldn’t fall for any of those people in the book. Maybe he would meet someone completely different. A girl, even. What if the book had it all wrong? Why was he sure that Darcy was interested in guys? That book was trash anyway. Except for the part about the swapped case, maybe other things were not true. Wait, didn’t the book say Aidan seduced the fake heir? Please! How could he, a straight guy, be attracted to men?! So it was not impossible for Darcy not swing that way either.
Yeah, Darcy could fall for a girl. Micah nodded to himself.
Darcy noticed his jerky movements and shifted on the cushion to grab his bag. "I better get going," he said, standing up and dusting off his pants. His voice was calm, but a little cold. "Right, don’t wait for me tomorrow morning."
Micah blinked. "Huh? Why not? Don’t you have a class?"
"I’m taking the morning off," Darcy said as he walked toward the door. "Just promise me you won’t go overboard with breakfast. Your stomach still isn’t healed."
"Really? It is not because of what I said earlier...?" Micah asked, his fingers tugging at the hem of his hoodie.
Darcy paused. "Nope, it’s not. I want to visit my mum and sister. I haven’t seen them in over ten days."
Micah’s hands stilled. "That’s right! How are they?"
"Nora is still staying at her dorm school. And my mum is in rehabilitation at the hospital." Darcy said.
Micah nodded. "That Durant family didn’t show up again bothering them, right?"
"No, I haven’t heard anything."
"Good." Micah’s jaw tensed. "It better stay that way or next time, I’ll ask my family to drag them through the mud with no way to recover."
Darcy was puzzled. "Next time? You did something before?"
Micah gave a half shrug. "Not me. My grandpa."
"Why go to such a length?"
Micah waved it off like it wasn’t a big deal. "Don’t sweat it. Grandpa did it for his own reasons. It had nothing to do with you. He was afraid the Durant family go after him knowing he was behind the report."
Darcy lowered his eyes for a second, then looked back up. "Still, I should thank him. And you too."
"You are being too formal," Micah said with a soft snort. "Aren’t we friends? Friends help each other."
Darcy didn’t answer right away, but he nodded. "Okay. Then sleep well," he said, turning toward the door.
Micah hesitated for a second, then before Darcy could reach the handle, he blurted out. "I’ll go with you tomorrow."
Darcy was taken aback. "What?"
"I’ll go with you," Micah repeated, rubbing the back of his neck.
He figured it was better to visit Flora before the birthday party. He wouldn’t put it past his parents to invite them directly without telling him. The last time they went to Darcy’s home, things got out of hand. They portrayed him as a troublemaker sissy boy. He didn’t trust them not to pull something again and damage his image more than it was in front of Flora.
Darcy studied Micah’s face, noticing his sincerity, he said. "Alright, Let’s go around seven. Before the traffic gets bad."
Micah hummed absentmindedly. He thought he should buy something for Flora and Nora. Can’t show up empty-handed.
He quickly pulled out his phone and dialled a number.
"Hello, Driver Dan? Yeah, could you come pick me up? I’ve got errands to run. Yeah, before curfew."
Darcy stared. "Wait! Where are you going now, it’s already eight thirty??"
"You’re coming with me. I need to know what they like!" Micah said, grabbing Darcy’s wrist and dragging him toward the door.
Darcy stumbled a bit, caught off guard. "Wha-Micah! Slow down!"
Micah didn’t stop. He pulled Darcy out into the hallway and toward the dorm entrance.
Meanwhile, just outside the north gate, Emile’s group had just pulled up. Jacklin spotted Micah right away, silver hair catching the light even in the dark.
"Hey," she said, tapping Emile’s arm. "Is that your roommate?"
Emile looked over. "Yeah, it’s Micah."
"Why didn’t he come with you?" she asked.
Emile shrugged his shoulder. "He said had something to do."
"Eh, where are they going now?" Nick asked, squinting at the two figures headed out of the gates.
"These two always glued together. It’s like they live in their own little world," Eddie said.
"Yeah," Nick snorted. "You ever notice how Darcy acts when someone gets too close to Micah? Total jealous boyfriend vibes!"
Eddie laughed too. "For real. You noticed that too, huh?"
"The strange part was they said known each other for a month or two!" Emile mumbled.
"Who is that guy anyway? And... Why they are holding hands?" Jacklin asked, listening to their conversation.
"He is the freshman rep and his friend," Emile replied, not surprised by their closeness.
Dean paused. "Really? Wasn’t that guy Micah flipped out over? When you said maid or something?"
Emile nodded.
Jacklin and Dean exchanged looks. Then turned back to Micah and Darcy walking off together. The way Darcy was looking at Micah spoke nothing like friendship.
