Chapter 126: You, Me, and the Four Male Leads
Darcy was halfway up the stairs when his phone rang in his pocket. He pulled it out with one hand, saw Micah’s name and answered.
"Finished?" Micah asked right away, his voice muffled by the rustle of something like plastic bags.
"Yeah," Darcy said.
"Great. Come to my room for dinner. I got a special delivery."
Darcy hummed in response and the line went dead. He turned toward the third floor. His cold fingers curled and uncurled as warmth returned to them slowly. His serious expression eased a bit after Micah’s call.
After that encounter at the gate, Darcy had thought he should make do tonight with some ramen or leftover food from the cafeteria. He wasn’t that close to Micah’s roommates to tag along with them with their dinner plans. And honestly, he didn’t like forcing himself into group hangouts.
But now, his steps picked up a little. The idea of spending time with Micah alone sparked some enthusiasm in him.
When he reached the room, he knocked on the door.
The door flung open immediately.
"Come in," Micah said, slightly exasperated. "I told you not to knock. Just walk in next time."
Darcy stepped inside and took off his bag. He blinked at the scene before him. Micah was crouched over the small table in the middle of the room, setting down bowls, spoons, and a few containers. The room smelled incredible, savoury, warm, and comforting.
Micah put some cushions on the floor and gestured to Darcy. "Sit down."
Darcy sank down onto the cushion. His eyes caught sight of the familiar white bag stamped with the golden logo of an elite Chinese restaurant. "Where did that come from?"
Micah wavered for half a second as he reached into another container. "A friend sent it."
Darcy’s gaze lingered on Micah’s face. That wavering hadn’t gone unnoticed. It was so unnatural he would be a fool to believe it was as simple as a friend.
Darcy’s curiosity about that man rose. From the look of the man, he seemed too much older than them. He wanted to ask more but Micah handed him a bowl full of rich wonton soup.
"Here, try this. It’s from that fancy place! You know, the one that’s always booked months in advance. VIP-only reservations, super private, super picky. Even my grandfather had to wait to be put on the list. I thought they don’t do takeout!" Micah said, impressed with that jerk. Clyde had somehow pulled off the impossible.
He took a sip of the soup and made a soft, satisfied sound. "Okay, now understand why people go crazy for this!"
Darcy stared at the steaming bowl Micah had passed to him. He tried a spoonful. The broth was rich, full of favour but not greasy. The wontons were soft and silky. It was simple food but the quality was unreal.
Micah caught Darcy’s delay in eating and reached for two more containers. "If you are not a fan of soup, here try these instead."
One container was filled with rice and poached chicken, and the other with steamed buns.
Darcy glanced at the food and then back at Micah. This meal wasn’t random. Someone had paid attention. The food was gentle on the stomach. Nutritious. Warm. Comforting.
Darcy’s hold on the spoon tightened slightly.
The man whoever he was, knew about Micah’s stomach problem. Even though the meals were simple and kinda plain, the aroma and taste were top-notch. It showed how much the man cared.
A dull ache formed in Darcy’s chest. He wanted to be the one who did that. To have the resources, the wealth, the connection, to be the one Micah turned to, not some other man.
Micah noticed the silence and peeked at Darcy. "How was your day??"
"Not bad," Darcy said, forcing his grip to loosen. He stirred his soup a little. "Class. A couple of meetings. Some planning for the next project."
Micah nodded, grabbing a steamed bun and popping it into his mouth. Then he cleared his throat. "No one came looking for you?" Micah probed.
Darcy tilted his head, puzzled. "No? Who exactly would be looking for me?"
"No... I was just asking." Micah averted his gaze.
They sat in silence for a moment. The clinking of spoons and soft slurps filled the room. Then, out of nowhere, Micah blurted out, "Do you have someone you’re interested in?"
Darcy dropped his spoon in shock. He looked at Micah straight into his eyes. "Where did that come from all of a sudden? Do you have a crush on someone?"
Micah shook his head in denial. "No... no! I just thought... the way you looked at Russell’s older brother, maybe you..."
"That’s impossible." Darcy cut him off, frowning. "And I don’t think he is right for you either."
Micah choked on his bun. He coughed hard, face flushing. "What? Why do you even think that?! I’m not like you! I mean I am straight!"
The words left his mouth in a panic, and he immediately regretted them.
Darcy’s expression darkened. His jaw tightened.
"Why are you getting mad?" Micah asked, voice smaller now, unsure.
He felt a chill on his back. Did he say something wrong? Darcy was the first one who fell in love with Leo in the novel! He should be one hundred per cent gay, right?
Darcy didn’t answer at first. But then he masked his expression. "I’m not. Eat your food."
Darcy lowered his head and resumed eating. His mind, however, flooded with chaotic thoughts. Micah had assumed he liked guys. How had he come to that conclusion? Even he himself was not sure to swing that way! How the hell he was sure about that?! Saying so confidently? As if he had Darcy figured out. Was that gaydar thing real? And if Micah was straight (that somehow didn’t sit well with him) ... Why did it feel like he was fishing for something?
Was it for himself?
A strange fuzzy feeling spread in his chest at that thought.
Darcy tightened his hand on the spoon. What was he even thinking about? He didn’t have that kinda feeling toward Micah. Right?
Darcy shook his head. It was all Micah’s fault for putting these thoughts in his head.
On the other table, Micah was confused by Darcy’s reaction. Maybe he had spoken too soon? Maybe Darcy hadn’t realised his own sexuality yet? Oh man... that would be awkward.
Micah lowered his head and resumed eating, averting his eyes. He felt embarrassed by his own words. What the hell had possessed him to ask something like that?!
Discussing the sexuality and romantic interest! Ahhh... it was too mushy and cringy!
But he had been thinking too much about that moment in the storage room. The way Darcy had looked at Archie. Like there was something between them. What if Darcy was interested in Archie?
But because they were in military training he was sure Darcy would not go anywhere near Archie. But today was different. Archie came after him. What if he had gone to Darcy next? Then Darcy’s feeling for Archie would be rekindled... Ah!
It was all that book’s fault! He was seeing everything like a romantic BL drama!
All those tangled love triangles and dramatic twists had messed with his head.
Thinking Darcy with Archie. Darcy with Leo. Darcy with those four male leads... All were hitting off before the hell came loose.
Micah bit into a steamed bun, wishing it was the author’s head instead.
He needed something to cleanse his mind! Better read something about soul-searching or self-healing after dinner. Anything that would wash away four psychos madly in love with an innocent sweet boy.
