Chapter 979: The Gathering Storm

Once they confirmed everything, they left their hiding spot, setting out with a bold stance to hunt down other spirits.

In a grand palace nearby, a red spirit, having waited in vain for reports from its subordinates, finally erupted in fury.

"They dare to betray me!" Its wrath surged from the palace, sweeping outward in all directions.

The blue spirits outside trembled and knelt, terrified. The king had never shown such fury. They quickly shoved one of their own into the palace.

Under the king’s sinister gaze, the blue spirit immediately collapsed to its knees in fear.

"My King, please give me your mercy! I have important news to report."

"Speak!" the red spirit’s roar echoed through the hall, the sound rebounding off the walls and amplifying its imposing presence.

The blue spirit pressed its head to the floor. "I saw Lord Undine killed by a human cultivator, so I suspect that the other lords may have been killed as well. They wouldn’t dare to betray you, My King."

"So you’re saying that all my Soul Formation stage subordinates were killed by the same human cultivator?" The red spirit’s crimson eyes glowed with furious light.

"I’m only speculating, but it’s possible that something happened to the lords," the blue spirit replied cautiously, afraid to confirm its suspicion outright.

The red spirit stood up abruptly, its voice seething with rage. "I’ll see for myself! If what you say is true, I will make sure that human cultivator who ruined my plans is destroyed!"

Its subordinate didn’t mention that it, too, suspected something had happened to Quenya when he didn’t appear before. He might betray eventually, but certainly not now. Without the red spirit, he couldn’t enter the space of the Immortal Spring.

"I’ll lead the way," the blue spirit offered eagerly.

Even if some of the lords survived, a good number of them were likely dead. The king would need to raise a new set of powerful followers, and this was an opportunity to stand out. The other blue spirits felt immediate regret—they wished they had volunteered first.

With the blue spirit guiding, the red spirit confirmed that its Soul Formation stave subordinates had truly been killed. Faint traces of their essence lingered in the air, marking the scene of their demise.

"Pass my word! Dig up every inch of the Jade Radiance Hall if you must—find the human who killed Undine and Quenya!"

The furious roar of the red spirit resounded throughout Jade Radiance Hall, and its minions instantly obeyed, mobilizing all forces to search every corner of the hall.

If those humans were still within Jade Radiance Hall, they would surely be found.

Meanwhile, the culprit was already strolling into the adjacent Heavenly Flames Hall and encountering the first human cultivator they had seen since entering the Immortal Palace.

"Senior aister, a human cultivator is here. It looks like Master Lian’s disciple," Kailash Ren, who first noticed Kenny Lin’s arrival, quickly informed Dayeon Xinyue, who was busy fighting a purple spirit. She glanced instinctively behind him.

Not seeing the one she hoped for, a slight, unrecognized disappointment flickered in her heart.

Dayeon Xinyue caught a glimpse of the tall figure as he turned the corner. The energy stirred his robes, and his handsome face remained cold and distant as he looked at them.

Efficiently dispatching the purple spirit before her, Dayeon Xinyue quickly dealt with the others in the hall, eradicating them with swift precision.

"Do you have business with us?" Dayeon Xinyue sheathed her natal weapon, took a restorative pill, and stepped forward.

"Have you seen Amalia?" Kenny Lin asked bluntly.

"No," Dayeon Xinyue answered just as directly.

"Is Amalia missing?" Kailash Ren asked instinctively.

Kenny Lin shot her a glance. "What’s it to you?"

Kailash Ren flushed. "I was only asking, no other reason."

"It’s better that way." Kenny Lin’s face was cold.

"Is that how you ask for information?" Nari Yin, irritated by his dismissive attitude, snapped. He was the one who came asking, yet acted as though they were beneath him. No amount of good looks could make up for such an infuriating personality.

"You’re free not to answer," Kenny Lin replied as he turned to leave.

Nari Yin was so angry she couldn’t respond. "With that attitude, next time he asks us anything, none of us should answer him!"

"Take it easy," Jiae Yao shrugged, unfazed.

"Let’s keep searching for other spirits," Dayeon Xinyue, her face like ice, calmly sheathed her weapon.

"Senior sister, we’ve been searching for so long, yet haven’t seen a single cultivation method, spiritual technique, or immortal artifact. Do you think they even exist here? Should we keep looking?" Kailash Ren asked curiously.

"The spirits here are mostly intelligent. Even if there were such things, they’re likely long gone," Jiae Yao replied with a smile. "Still, it’s worth coming to the Immortal Palace for some training."

"These spirits not only provide good combat practice, but their spirit orb are also useful for cultivation. Totally worth it," she added.

"Not to mention the ’Immortal Spring’ they keep talking about," Kailash Ren said. "That name alone sounds like something remarkable."

"Let’s just leave that to fate," Dayeon Xinyue responded. "If this so-called Immortal Spring exists, it would be surrounded by spirits much stronger than these purple ones. Even if we knew where it was, we couldn’t get close. If previous elders knew of it, they would’ve told us about it."

Listening to them chat away as though they weren’t concerned in the least, Nari Yin felt stifled, as if she were the only one who cared. "Why are none of you concerned?"

Jiae Yao laughed at her complaint. "Why be concerned? Time here is precious, and we don’t get much of it. Why waste it on something like that? You should work on broadening your mindset."

"There you go, taking every chance to lecture me," Nari Yin muttered, slightly embarrassed.

"Who told you to hand me such an easy opportunity?" Jiae Yao shrugged.

"Quiet. Something’s happening outside," Dayeon Xinyue suddenly said.
