Former Interstellar Mercenary In Urban Cultivation World -
Chapter 978: Uniting Strengths
Chapter 978: Uniting Strengths
"Maybe it’s an unspoken bond between strong cultivators," Junior Brother Hsu said enviously. They were only getting in the way here.
"Let’s go," Amalia said, turning to the three still staring in amazement. She could sense that the spirits behind them had already broken through the formation she’d set and were now pursuing them.
She could conceal her presence from the spirits, but Jinhwa Hou and the others couldn’t. The group raced down the corridor, slaying many blue spirits along the way.
At this point, purple spirits no longer posed a challenge, and the blue spirits fell even more easily; some didn’t have time to react before they were killed, leaving many spirit orbs uncollected in their wake.
They continued like this until they had fully escaped the area without encountering the second purple spirit Amalia had mentioned. Whether due to sensing the disappearance of nearby spirits or for some other reason, none appeared.
"We made it out. We’re finally out!" Sechang Dai exclaimed in relief.
Just a quarter-hour earlier, he’d thought he was done for, so this sense of survival felt wonderful. Amalia, still vigilant, looked around and then guided them to a concealed area to rest.
"Take this time to heal up," Amalia said, tossing a bottle of healing pills to them.
Renshu Chang tossed it back. "We have our own. You keep them."
Amalia gave him a look but took the bottle back without a word.
After taking the pills, their wounds quickly healed, and their spiritual power largely recovered. "So, what’s our next move?" Sechang Dai asked.
"What are your thoughts?" Amalia replied.
"We should reunite with Senior Brother as soon as possible," he answered, concern evident in his voice. "The spirits in this Immortal Palace are acting more frenzied with each passing moment, attacking in greater numbers and with increasing ferocity. It feels like they’re building up to something big."
"Have any of you seen Kenny Lin? Is he in the Immortal Palace?" Now that the crisis was over, Amalia finally remembered to ask.
Renshu Chang responded right away. "Yes, he’s here too. We entered together, and Master Uncle is also looking for you. When did you come in? Were you with Senior Brother and the others?"
Amalia shook her head. "I came in not too long ago. I noticed something unusual in that area and realized you were surrounded by a large group of spirits in that side hall."
Knowing Kenny Lin was in the Immortal Palace put her mind at ease.
She had been worried he might have been trapped in another space like she was. If that were the case, finding him would have been much more difficult. She didn’t mention where she had been before entering, and Jinhwa Hou and the others didn’t ask—everyone had their own fortuitous encounters.
"So, are you going to look for Master Uncle next?" Renshu Chang asked again.
"The Immortal Palace is vast, so finding him might be challenging. I’ll just take it one step at a time," Amalia replied. Sometimes, seeking something too eagerly only made it harder to find.
"How about joining us, then? Let’s team up and wipe out all the purple spirits here," Jinhwa Hou said enthusiastically. Fighting alongside Amalia to defeat the purple spirits had felt great. If they joined forces again, they might just clear the entire area of purple spirits.
"Sure," Amalia agreed without much hesitation.
The spirit orbs from these spirits were immensely useful to them, and there was no loss in hunting them all down.
With that, Amalia tossed a purple orb to Jinhwa Hou and several blue orbs to Renshu Chang and the others.
"Let’s all boost our strength before heading back to fight. We can also let the disciples from Eternal One Sect and Demonic Night Palace wear down the spirits’ forces a bit for us," Amalia said. She took two purple orbs to a corner, sat cross-legged, and began absorbing their energy.
The blue orbs had less effect now; a hundred blue orbs might not equal even one purple orb.
Jinhwa Hou handed his purple orb to Renshu Chang, who looked at him, puzzled.
"I don’t need it right now," Jinhwa Hou explained with a smile. Renshu Chang understood right away.
Breaking through the constraints of the late Soul Formation stage could no longer rely on the energy of spirit orbs. He now needed insight through battle. Renshu Chang tried to pass the orb to Sechang Dai, who, as a late Soul Formation cultivator, declined.
"One purple orb isn’t enough for me to break through to the peak of the Soul Formation stage," Sechang Dai said. "You should use it. Besides, I haven’t really earned it—I feel embarrassed enough for just tagging along."
Though Sechang Dai said nothing more, Renshu Chang could guess his thoughts. However, saying he had no merit was entirely untrue. Without him, he and Junior Brother Hsu might have suffered far worse injuries when besieged by Jiheon Yang and the others in the side hall.
...
Half an hour later, Amalia stopped her meditation. She looked around to see that everyone else was ready and then stood up.
"Let’s go. We should check out what’s happening outside."
Everyone picked up their weapons.
As they reached the door, Amalia suddenly remembered something. "Don’t forget to keep your tokens secure. Those spirits are specifically after them."
"We know that," Renshu Chang replied. "These tokens seem to be really important to them."
"Yes, they’re like keys to the Immortal Spring, which is very important to them," Amalia explained.
"Immortal Spring?" Three voices sounded at once.
"You didn’t know?" Amalia was surprised they were in the dark about it. Seeing them shake their heads, she explained, "The Immortal Spring is supposedly located in another space. I don’t know exactly what it is."
"They also seem to be searching for a gold token, which seems to have even more value," Jinhwa Hou added, recalling something he’d overheard.
Everyone tacitly avoided mentioning that the gold token was with Amalia—who knew if anyone was listening in.
