Chapter 977: Paths Diverge

It hadn’t even been that long since then, and yet she already possessed the strength to kill a Soul Formation stage spirit.

Although they had escaped thanks to her, the groups from the Eternal One Sect and Demonic Night Palace weren’t particularly pleased.

Especially Songji Yan and Jiheon Yang, who had thought victory was within reach—now their faces were cold as ice, radiating frost. They knew that once the Green Lotus Sect members escaped, they wouldn’t forget the ambush in the side hall. This enmity was now firmly established.

The deaths of the two purple spirits quickly alerted all nearby spirits, who immediately began rushing over.

"There are still seven purple spirits outside. If we break out like this, aren’t we just walking into their trap?" Sechang Dai said nervously, sweat forming on his brow, his amazement at Amalia’s sudden arrival momentarily forgotten.

"I have a plan. Follow me," Amalia replied without looking back. When they reached a fork in the path, she unhesitatingly chose the right side. As soon as they rushed out of the corridor, they spotted a group of spirits at the far end, led by one at the Soul Formation stage spirit. Strangely, this spirit seemed hindered, not charging forward as expected.

"What’s going on?" Jinhwa Hou, swallowing a few pills, felt his injuries improve significantly.

"I set up a few formations nearby to temporarily block some of the paths, but it won’t hold for long," replied Amalia, leading the way.

"Impressive!" Jinhwa Hou couldn’t help giving her a thumbs-up.

He had thought Amalia had come impulsively to rescue them, but she had planned it all along.

"How many purple spirits can this hold back?" Renshu Chang quickly asked.

"At most, three." Amalia would have liked to block more, but leaving an escape route made it impossible to block everything; if she did, the spirits would surely notice.

"Three is enough. You’ve already killed two, leaving only four. You and I can each handle one. As for the rest..." Jinhwa Hou glanced back with a cold smile at Songji Yan, Jiheon Yang, and their group trailing behind.

Noticing his gaze, Songji Yan and Jiheon Yang’s expressions turned even darker—they hadn’t expected things to take such a turn. Not only did Jinhwa Hou, Renshu Chang, and the other two survive, but they had effectively been saved by the disciples of the Green Lotus Sect.

"Senior Brother, we shouldn’t keep going with them," Songji Yan quickly transmitted a message to Jiheon Yang.

On the surface, Ilmyrong Yi was the highest in cultivation, but in truth, Jiheon Yang held the authority in the group; Songji Yan didn’t consider Ilmyrong Yi to have any real say.

"What’s your plan?" Jiheon Yang, too, felt reluctant to stay; he feared that Amalia might turn on them. Seeing how she had killed a purple spirit in a single stroke, he had lost his confidence in defeating her.

"We should head in a different direction, away from them. Some of the spirits have been held back on their path. From my estimation, there shouldn’t be many purple spirits in this direction—at most, we’ll encounter one or two, which I can handle."

"Alright," Jiheon Yang agreed without much hesitation.

He didn’t have the strength to face a direct confrontation, but as long as Ilmyrong Yi could buy them some time, he was confident of escaping.

At the next fork in the path, Songji Yan and Jiheon Yang decisively led their group down a different route.

"They sure ran quickly. I thought they’d have the guts to stick with us," Jinhwa Hou sneered. "A bunch of cowards. No wonder their cultivation might be decent, but their strength is lacking."

"Amalia, do you think they’ll make it out?" Renshu Chang asked curiously.

"That depends on their luck. Two purple spirits are blocking their path, and the barrier I set up could be broken if the spirits attack it directly. If that happens, they might end up surrounded by three or four purple spirits."

That was precisely why she hadn’t chosen that route. The path she led Renshu Chang and the others down had the lowest probability of encountering multiple purple spirits.

"Serves them right! If they’re surrounded by three or four purple spirits, their chances of escape are slim, especially since more spirits will be closing in on them soon," Jinhwa Hou said, finally feeling a sense of release after being cornered by the spirits in the side hall for so long.

"Exactly, trying to gang up on us—now they’ve got serious trouble," Sechang Dai added smugly.

"Will they die?" Junior Brother Hsu asked.

"A few of them probably will," Amalia replied calmly.

Hearing this, a faint blush rose on the others’ faces.

"Be careful; I sense a purple spirit just ahead," Amalia said, summoning her natal weapon again. "Let’s attack it together. We need to finish it off as quickly as possible."

"Alright," Jinhwa Hou replied immediately.

As soon as he finished speaking, a purple spirit appeared before them. It glared at them fiercely, rushing forward with menacing intent. The spirit ignored Amalia because of her low strength, assuming Jinhwa Hou was its only real opponent. Jinhwa Hou immediately launched a powerful attack.

The purple spirit sneered and dodged his strike.

Jinhwa Hou smirked, then suddenly vanished.

Amalia sprang out from behind him, swinging her blade down with brutal force, unleashing a wave of energy that illuminated the spirit’s stunned expression.

Seizing the moment, Jinhwa Hou quickly turned around and added a sword strike, piercing through the spirit’s head with sword energy. The purple spirit’s orb floated toward Amalia, who pocketed it effortlessly.

Renshu Chang, Junior Brother Hsu, and the others looked on in astonishment. Despite seeing Amalia dispatch two purple spirits earlier, they were still shaken by the display.

The two of them had defeated a spirit that had previously caused them endless trouble in barely three breaths, with a speed and efficiency that left them stunned.

"When did Senior Brother Hou and Martial Aunt develop such a seamless rapport?" Sechang Dai asked, swallowing hard. He’d voiced what everyone was wondering.
