Chapter 970: The Hunt for the Gold Token
The space here was too narrow to fight effectively. If they had to battle, they needed to find a more open area.
"I’m an Eternal One Sect prodigy; you’re not even a challenge!" A short distance away, Seonho Ming, who was also questioned by a purple spirit, openly declared his allegiance.
Nearby, Temujin Lei held his blade, radiating a murderous aura, ready to strike at any moment.
The two purple spirits in front of them exchanged glances, a look of calculation in their red eyes, and then charged in unison.
Seonho Ming and Temujin Lei thought two purple spirits would be manageable, but they didn’t know their words had been spread around.
Upon hearing there were Eternal One disciples nearby, other purple spirits quickly arrived.
"Are you a disciple of the Green Lotus Sect or the Eternal One Sect?"
One purple spirit blocked Kenny Lin’s path, its gaze icy, as though he were already dead.
Kenny Lin looked at it with equal amusement, as if it were the one marked for death.
Over the past few days, he had killed at least twenty purple spirits, if not more. Now, apart from blue and red spirits, purple spirits were almost nowhere to be found.
He’d been searching for half an hour and was surprised that one had come to him.
Behind him was a small spirit, clutching two blue spirit orbs and absorbing the energy from it.
The dozen or so purple spirits Kenny Lin had killed had all been brought by this small spirit, earning it a reward of several blue spirit orbs.
"Why would I have to be from one of those two sects? I could belong to another, couldn’t I?" Kenny Lin asked, intrigued.
"Of course, you could. If you are from one of those two, hand over the gold token, and I might spare you. If not, you die," the purple spirit sneered ominously.
Kenny Lin grew more curious. "How do you know the gold token is with people from those two sects?"
"You talk too much. If you won’t answer, I’ll kill you now," the purple spirit said, its red eyes brimming with murderous intent.
"Fine. I’m a disciple of the Green Lotus Sect," Kenny Lin shrugged. "No harm in telling you. As a courtesy, shouldn’t you tell me who informed you that the gold token belongs to people from the Green Lotus Sect or the Eternal One Sect?"
Upon hearing his admission, the purple spirit’s face lit up with excitement, far too focused to answer his question.
"So, you are! Hand over the gold token !"
Kenny Lin’s face darkened. "Didn’t you hear me mention ’courtesy’? Don’t make me beat you first before you answer."
The purple spirit scoffed at his threat. "If you won’t answer, I’ll beat it out of you."
As it said this, the purple spirit failed to notice the small spirit behind Kenny Lin pause in its energy absorption, looking at it with a dumbfounded expression.
Intent on teaching him a lesson, the purple spirit surged forward at full speed.
Minutes later, the purple spirit laying weakly on the ground, its red eyes filled with terror as it stared at the advancing Kenny Lin. A wisp of black energy seeped from its body, returning to the human’s fingertips.
Kenny Lin stepped toward the purple spirit, looking down at it with an imposing gaze.
"Will you tell me now?"
The purple spirit shrank back, overwhelmed by fear. It had already forgotten what he’d asked.
"Do you need a reminder?" Kenny Lin raised a finger.
The purple spirit, especially terrified of the dark energy at his fingertips, instantly remembered.
"It was an order from above—I’m only following my king’s command to seek out the disciples of the Green Lotus Sect and Eternal One Sect. We’re supposed to seize the gold token from them and present them to my king."
The purple spirit quickly rattled off its answer.
"And why does your king know that the gold token are held by the Green Lotus and Eternal One Sects?"
The purple spirit shook its head frantically. "I only know that my king seemed to have met with someone. After that, he commanded us to target those two sects because they have the token. He ordered us to make sure to seize them."
"It seems someone sold us out—and not with good intentions. They aim to endanger the young prodigies of the Green Lotus and Eternal One Sects."
Anyone who participated in the token battle outside the Path of All Immortals would know that both gold tokens were with the Green Lotus Sect. Adding the Eternal One Sect into the mix made the intentions obvious.
"Second question. Why are you after these tokens? What use are they to you?"
The purple spirit hesitated.
Kenny Lin moved his fingers slightly.
The purple spirit immediately lowered its head. "I’ll tell you. Deep within the Immortal Palace, there’s an Immortal Spring that opens once every hundred years. Entering the Immortal Spring allows one to rapidly increase their cultivation and possibly even receive a legacy left by an immortal."
"Although the Immortal Spring opens, one cannot enter without a token. The tokens grant access to many sealed locations within the Immortal Palace, and the Immortal Spring is one of them."
"And what exactly is this Immortal Spring? Why does it exist in the Immortal Palace?" Kenny Lin continued his questioning.
"This lowly one does not know. My status is too humble. Only spirits with a cultivation level above Deity Transformation can enter the Immortal Spring."
As it spoke, a glimmer of greed and longing filled the red eyes of the purple spirit.
The Immortal Spring was every spirit’s most coveted destination, for those who went there could become stronger.
All of the Deity Tansformation-level and above wandering spirits of the Immortal Palace had visited the Immortal Spring at least once and returned from it to become kings.
These wandering spirits sought strength by continually absorbing energy, but no amount of spirit consumption could compare to a single entrance into the Immortal Spring.
