Chapter 969: Clash with the Spirits
They were currently exploring the Immortal Palace, and along the way had slain a large number of blue spirits, amassing a significant amount of blue spirit orbs and a few purple spirit orbs.
Unexpectedly, even the purple spirits, who usually stayed at the rear, had come to the forefront.
They personally took command, organizing the blue wandering spirits, who had previously been like a scattered mob.
Hundreds of blue spirits attacked together, with five or six purple spirits lurking menacingly nearby. Unable to withstand their combined assault, they had to temporarily retreat. While they were hiding and cultivating, a few purple spirits quarreled amongst themselves.
"What are you doing here?"
The first purple spirit, which had discovered Eunbyeol Ling and her group, looked displeased, its red eyes fixed on the newly arrived purple spirits. It was clear it knew they were here to steal its credit.
"The King never decreed that finding humans was solely your claim. Everyone present deserves a share," the second spirit said with a grin.
"Exactly. Whoever captures those humans gets the credit."
The newly arrived spirits were united in their intentions.
"So, you’re truly after my gold token." The first spirit sneered coldly.
"This matter isn’t settled yet. How can you be so sure these humans have the gold token?" the third spirit questioned.
"Then why don’t you just back out?" the first spirit taunted.
"Although it’s uncertain, it’s still an opportunity." The third spirit remained composed.
Despite their uncertainty, the competition was fierce.
They all knew that any human cultivators appearing here were strong, it’s likely prodigies.
As prodigies, they represented the future pillars of their sects. Given that they were probably from the Green Lotus Sect or the Eternal One Sect, none of them would pass up such an opportunity.
Soon, a lower-level spirit arrived to report that it had located the three humans.
"Lead the way immediately. I’ll capture them personally!" the first spirit demanded, stepping forward.
The other four purple spirits were equally eager, as it was impossible to shake them off.
Outside, the disturbance quickly caught Taeseon Lei’s attention, and he immediately returned.
"We’ve been discovered."
Eunbyeol Ling and Seongwoo Jin opened their eyes simultaneously.
"What’s going on? Why have these spirits suddenly become so aggressive?" Seongwoo Jin said, displeased. He was on the verge of reaching the peak of Soul Formation stage.
Once he achieved that, the three of them working together would make dealing with a few purple spirits much easier.
Among the three, only Taeseon Lei had reached the peak of the Soul Formation stage, while he and Eunbyeol Ling were in the late of Soul Formation stages.
"I think they’re after the higher-grade tokens we carry," Taeseon Lei said nonchalantly.
Five purple spirits were formidable but not an insurmountable obstacle. If they fought with all they had, there was a chance they could win.
"A higher-grade tokens?" Seongwoo Jin had a peculiar expression. "Doesn’t that mean martial uncle is in even greater danger than we are?"
"Who knows if he has a gold token? He might be safer than us," Eunbyeol Ling countered.
"Let’s fight our way out. We can’t let them trap us here," Taeseon Lei said.
The three of them immediately opened the door. Before the spirits could react, they launched a powerful attack, scattering the spirits as they carved a path forward.
A massive swarm of spirits surged toward them, but instead of stopping their escape, more and more spirits fell.
"Looks like we’ll have to handle this ourselves," said the second purple spirit.
"These three humans are so strong—they must be disciples of the Green Lotus Sect or the Eternal One Sect," the third spirit said, gazing at them with a ravenous look, as if they were a prime piece of prey.
"What are we waiting for? Let’s go in and make them hand over the gold token!" The fourth spirit was already impatient, preparing to charge forward with the fifth spirit.
"Hold on—perhaps we should first confirm if they’re from the Green Lotus Sect or the Eternal One Sect," the first spirit suggested, not wanting to waste time. It then signaled its subordinates to halt the attack.
Just as Taeseon Lei was about to force his way out, he noticed the spirits suddenly retreat like a receding tide.
Several powerful presences approached—it was the five purple spirits.
"I’ll ask you directly—answer honestly. Are you disciples of the Green Lotus Sect?" The first spirit looked at him with a sinister expression.
"What’s with this spirit? If it wants to fight, then let’s fight! Why does it care if we’re from the Green Lotus Sect?" Seongwoo Jin turned to his fellow sect members.
"They halted the attack just to ask this? Something’s strange," Eunbyeol Ling analyzed calmly.
"Their target is the tokens," Taeseon Lei added.
"They’re trying to judge what level token we have based on our sect?" Seongwoo Jin looked incredulous.
"It’s not impossible. Our sect is the strongest one on the Mystic Void continent. It makes sense that these spirits would have heard of us. Their target is likely the gold token."
"That’s even more reason not to tell them." Seongwoo Jin’s eyes lit up with an idea. "I have a plan. Just watch."
He strode forward and shouted to the questioning purple spirit, "I am a disciple of the Eternal One Sect! If you know what’s good for you, scram—or I’ll end you!"
"Are you an idiot?" Eunbyeol Ling scoffed. She had expected something clever, not this impersonation of an Eternal One disciple. She was exasperated.
"How am I an idiot?" Seongwoo Jin protested.
The five purple spirits gave their answer with swift action.
Without needing any signal, they attacked in unison.
"Hand over the gold medallion, or face death!" the lead spirit yelled coldly as it charged forward.
"What the—?" Seongwoo Jin was dumbfounded. He’d forgotten that the Eternal One Sect was the second most powerful.
"Run!" Eunbyeol Ling snapped, sprinting with Taeseon Lei toward an exit on the other side.
