Former Interstellar Mercenary In Urban Cultivation World -
Chapter 895: Mirror of Resolve
Chapter 895: Mirror of Resolve
The continuous flow of spiritual energy through her body not only cleared her meridians, widening them, but also stabilized her cultivation. Her spiritual reserves had grown since she first entered the Nether Ghost Abyss Realm.
However, she still hadn’t managed to slay the Devil Ghost.
"Master, how long has it been?" Amalia asked, a mix of exhaustion and frustration creasing her brow as she looked up. She knew her Master was still nearby.
The surroundings were silent, save for the constant howls echoing from the depths of the Nether Ghost Abyss Realm.
For a long time, Tian Wuya did not answer.
Amalia wondered how Kenny Lin was doing right now. Was he in a similar situation as she was?
After not getting a response from her master, Amalia’s thoughts drifted to Kenny Lin. If he was facing a wild demonic beast, he might be going through the same challenges she was—repeating the same actions, feeling disappointed again and again, only to rise up and face more disappointment.
Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she softly asked, "Master, do you know what’s happening with Kenny Lin right now?"
"Do you want to know?" Tian Wuya’s voice responded from above.
"I do," Amalia replied immediately.
"Heh, then let me show you."
With those words, the master didn’t appear, but Amalia sensed something strange happening in the space around her. When she turned around, she saw sand gathering in the air, slowly forming a mirror. At first, the other side of the mirror was just a milky white haze, but after a moment, an image began to appear.
"Look closely. You can only see for a short time."
Amalia’s eyes were glued to the mirror, where she saw Kenny Lin. His back was to her, and it wasn’t clear if he knew what was happening behind him.
In front of him was a giant demonci beast, its massive form nearly filling the entire reflection. If the mirror weren’t so large, it wouldn’t have been able to capture the whole creature.
But Amalia wasn’t focused on the wild demonic beast. She stared at Kenny Lin’s back. His tattered clothes said it all, even though she couldn’t see his face.
His bloodstained clothing, torn sleeves, and the patches of dried blood—it wasn’t clear if the blood was his or the beast’s. But most likely, it was his.
This was the first time Amalia had seen Kenny Lin in such a sorry state. Even without seeing his face, she could imagine how difficult his battle must have been.
The wild beast roared in fury, and the deafening sound seemed to shake even the space around them. The beast then furiously scraped the ground with its claws and charged toward Kenny Lin. Its massive body and fierce face filled the mirror until his white silhouette was almost lost in the frame.
In the next second, Amalia didn’t see the scene where Kenny Lin would triumph. He drew his sword, but the wild beast was faster and tougher. It struck him before he could react, sending him flying.
Amalia finally saw Kenny Lin’s face.
His handsome features were covered in blood, with one side of his face lined with tiny cracks and dried blood clinging to his skin. His lips were pale and cracked, as if they had been soaked in water for too long, then dried out. The charm he once carried was nowhere to be seen.
Amalia had never seen this fierce, battered version of Kenny Lin. Even when they had faced stronger opponents in the past, he had never been like this.
Though knocked back again, Kenny Lin seemed used to the harshness of the injuries. He quickly got back on his feet, swinging his sword repeatedly, charging forward, only to be knocked down over and over.
His already tattered clothes were reduced to scraps, but he skillfully changed into a fresh outfit. The usual white robe was gone—this time, he wore black. Amid the swirling sand, his eyes shone brightly, even more determined.
Then, the mirror vanished.
"What do you think now?" Tian Wuya’s voice echoed from above. "Compared to him, you should feel lucky."
"This is the path he chose. I’ve always believed that the road to strength has no shortcuts. If there were, I wouldn’t be here, and he wouldn’t have gone to the Wild West Continent," Amalia replied, her expression unwavering. Her resolve had only deepened after seeing Kenny Lin.
"It’s good that you think that way. Keep going," her master’s voice faded once more.
Amalia took a deep breath and turned her focus back to the Devil Ghost. Even if standing still didn’t seem like the best approach, she could still improve her blade technique, even if she couldn’t change the devil ghost’s nature.
Time passed, though it was hard to tell how much.
In the Nether Ghost Abyss Realm, there was no sun or moon to mark day and night. Amalia could only estimate how many days had gone by.
It had been about a month and a half. All the artifactz she had used to set up formations were exhausted, and she couldn’t make it to the full two months.
After escaping the formation, the Devil Ghost continued its relentless attacks.
Amalia dodged and swung her blade. In the month and a half she’d been there, she hadn’t yet figured out how to kill the devil ghost, but her cultivation had become much more solid. About half a month ago, she had broken through to the early Nascent Soul stage.
Her spiritual energy channels had widened, allowing her to store more energy. With each swing of her sword, her strikes grew stronger. Though this caused her energy to drain faster and left her exhausted, all she could think about was becoming stronger, even as her body grew increasingly tired.
As the Devil Ghost charged at her when she stumbled, Amalia instinctively swung her blade.
This strike was like a reflex, but it suddenly releasing a powerful burst of spiritual energy. Her previously drained energy channels were instantly filled with a massive surge of power for reasons she didn’t understand.
