Chapter 868: Breath of Kin

"You should have told us sooner," Vryss’laar said sternly.

"And then? Would you dare bring danger near the cub?" Zhar’khaen retorted.

Vryss’laar fell silent, realizing he wouldn’t dare. A cub was incredibly precious and should be nurtured in its cradle, especially when he had been chased by a large group of humans.

Gor’kan sighed, "I’ve never wanted to become stronger as much as I do now."

"Me too. I’m truly afraid we won’t be able to protect the cub, but it can only activate the bloodline of the Pixiu by staying with us. That’s also why they sent Wealth to us," Zhar’khaen replied seriously.

Gor’kan and Vryss’laar looked at Amalia. "Why did you want to send him back to us? Don’t humans want the Pixiu?"

"Wealth is someone I’ve raised since he was little, we treating him like our own family. Now that he’s in danger, it’s better for him to be with you than with us. Why wouldn’t I dont want to send him back to his kin?" Amalia calmly countered. This question had never been within their range of concern. How could relying on external power be considered truly becoming stronger?

"Back then, I thought humans were all cunning and treacherous. Not only did my lord get betrayed by trusted subordinates, but humans have also betrayed my lord, so we don’t trust humans. However..."

"Your mistrust is justified."

Gor’kan was momentarily taken aback by Amalia’s interruption, wearing an expression that suggested he had much to say. Wasn’t she supposed to be advising them not to be biased against all humans?

"Humans are cunning and treacherous. After suffering a loss once, one should learn their lesson," Kenny Lin remarked with a smirk.

Gor’kan remained silent for a moment. "...We will."

"So what’s the plan now?" Zhar’khaen continued. "With your strength, you can’t stay on Silent Echo Valley any longer. It’s best to leave here quickly. We will ensure the cub’s safety, even if it costs us our lives."

"That’s right. We absolutely won’t let the cub come to any harm," Vryss’laar nodded without hesitation.

"We don’t plan to stay, but even if you have cured the poison of the Heavenly Dew, safely leaving Silent Echo Valley won’t be easy," Amalia pointed out casually. In reality, no one could claim to know what would happen.

"Solutions are created by people. And we’re different; we have the Breath Pearl. They can’t track us through our scent," Zhar’khaen said proudly.

The reason they had managed to hide thus far without being found by their enemies was due to the Breath Pearl.

"Are you saying that you can completely conceal a person’s scent with the Breath Pearl?" Amalia recalled reading about it in a book.

"Of course."

Gor’kan and Vryss’laar didn’t stop Zhar’khaen from revealing the existence of the Breath Pearl; it was a secret of their clan that shouldn’t be disclosed to outsiders. However, Amalia and Kenny Lin were different. They were the cub’s "relatives," having returned the most important cub of the Pixiu and helped Vryss’laar with the poison of Heavenly Dew. Their gratitude couldn’t be summed up in just a few words.

Suddenly, Vryss’laar exchanged a glance with Gor’kan. He didn’t speak, but his eyes sparkled, and Gor’kan immediately understood what he meant.

"Do you want to give them the Breath Pearl?"

Vryss’laar was silent for two seconds. "The Pixiu owes no one a favor. I want to give them my Breath Pearl as a way to repay a kindness."

Gor’kan sighed. "Without the Breath Pearl, you won’t be able to go out freely in the future, and you’ll always be at risk of being discovered." Vryss’laar shrugged, looking at the cub with gentle eyes. "It doesn’t matter. With the cub, we won’t have to roam around anymore; at worst, we can return to the Forbidden Land."

In order to raise a Pixiu cub, the three of them alone wouldn’t be enough. The bloodline of the Pixiu was a legacy, and only by returning to the Forbidden Land could they truly inherit it.

"Go ahead and give it," Vryss’laar’s words persuaded Gor’kan.

The Forbidden Land was the ancestral ground of the Pixiu, where countless years of effort had been stored. The reason humans and devils wanted to capture them and probe the Forbidden Land was related to that.

Vryss’laar then spat out the Breath Pearl from his abdomen. The Breath Pearl was a milky white jade orb that appeared ordinary on the surface, like a stone commonly found by the roadside. He handed the pearl to Amalia.

"This is one of the treasures of my clan, called the Breath Pearl. It’s a token of gratitude from me to you."

Amalia noticed that as he spat out the Breath Pearl, an aura that she couldn’t sense before became palpable.

"Can you give it to me? You must need it very much."

"Even if we need it, it’s not as important as life. This is the most precious thing I can offer right now; please accept it," Vryss’laar insisted.

Amalia stared at him for a moment before shifting her gaze to the noble one. "And what about him?"

The three Pixiu couldn’t help but laugh when they heard that his first reaction was to care about their cub. Gor’kan said, "I’ll give my Breath Pearl to him in the future."

"That’s good." Amalia nodded and accepted Vryss’laar’s Breath Pearl.

"My Breath Pearl is also for you, as thanks for returning the cub to us," Zhar’khaen suddenly spat out his own Breath Pearl and handed it to Kenny Lin.

Kenny Lin wouldn’t be polite with him. If they hadn’t given it, that would be one thing, but since they had, it was what they deserved. While toying with the Breath Pearl, he suddenly asked, "With the Breath Pearl, do you have any way to get close to a monarch-level devil?"

The three Pixiu paused slightly. "What would we want to get close to a monarch-level devil for?"

"To resolve our current predicament," Kenny Lin said, narrowing his eyes in contentment.
