Chapter 858: Escape from the Valley

As they were talking, a loud noise suddenly came from the east side of Silent Echo Valley.

Zhar’khaen’s face changed instantly. He flew up to the top of the tallest tree and saw a large group of demonic beasts flying from the east. There was faint smoke rising in the distance, and nearby birds tried to attack him, only to be struck down in his anger.

"What happened? Did something happen to your companions?" Amalia asked when he came back down.

"They might be in trouble," Zhar’khaen explained. "We split up to give me a chance to find you. My companions lured the humans and devils away."

"Let’s go check it out," Amalia suggested.

"You two?" Zhar’khaen glanced at them, not to be dismissive, but he genuinely doubted their ability. One was only at the Golden Core stage, and the other at the Nascent Soul stage—barely a match for their enemies.

"We’ll just observe from a distance, no need to fight. Besides, I might have a way to help you and your companions escape," Amalia said with a smile.

"Just like that? What a steal," Kenny Lin chimed in, knowing what Amalia was implying.

"They are Wealth’s kin, after all," Amalia said. "They’re more valuable alive. Dead, they’d be no help to Wealth’s education."

Zhar’khaen didn’t fully understand what they were talking about. Could they really help? He was skeptical. After all, what could two weaklings like them possibly do?

Still, despite his doubts, Zhar’khaen led them to the location. After reuniting with his kin, Wealth fell into a deep sleep and showed no sign of waking up.

With Zhar’khaen guiding them, combined with his strength and the aura of a divine beast, no creatures in Silent Echo Valley dared approach them. This was much smoother than when Amalia and Kenny Lin had been wandering around on their own. Their speed increased significantly as well.

What should have been a day’s journey was cut down to a third of the time.

Along the way, they encountered a group of devils, but since the devil party also had strong members, they decided to avoid them from a distance to save time. It wasn’t until they were near their destination that their speed slowed down.

"You two hide here and wait for me. I’ll go ahead and check the situation," Zhar’khaen said, worried about the safety of Gor’kan and Vryss’laar. After leading them to a safe spot, he hurried off.

Amalia and Kenny Lin had no objections. This time, finding Pixiu so smoothly made them suspect that Senior Tian Wuya might have orchestrated the situation on purpose.

Given the dangers of Silent Echo Valley, their cultivation levels made entering the area almost suicidal, yet Senior Tian Wuya hadn’t even mentioned this risk. It was likely that he had foreseen this, knowing that Pixiu could sense its own bloodline.

With their low cultivation levels, there was nothing the two could do but hide.

"Is that Zhar’khaen? How did he return so quickly?" Vryss’laar, who had been leaning weakly against the cave wall, stirred awake the moment he sensed his companion’s aura.

Gor’kan stood guard at the entrance of the cave, preventing any humans or devils from discovering their location and trapping them inside.

"Maybe he found our people. You shouldn’t move right now, or the toxin from the Heavenly Dew will spread even faster."

"Curse it! If it weren’t for me dragging you down, we would’ve left this place long ago and wouldn’t be stuck surrounded by humans. If Zhar’khaen doesn’t come, he won’t be able to escape either," Vryss’laar said guiltily.

"The humans were too cunning; it’s not your fault. The reinforcements they brought this time are far too strong," Gor’kan replied with a frown.

"Why don’t you go find Zhar’khaen? I can stay here and wait," Vryss’laar suddenly suggested.

Gor’kan glanced at him. "Do you really think I’d leave you behind?"

Vryss’laar’s eyes flickered slightly. "I’m not asking you to abandon me. You can find Zhar’khaen and then come back for me."

Gor’kan shook his head. "Every time you lie, your eyes flicker, and you can’t look at me. You plan to cause a commotion once I leave, draw the humans and devils to your position, and sacrifice yourself so we can escape, right? Neither Zhar’khaen nor I would ever abandon one of our own. If you were captured, we’d risk everything to save you, which would only play into their trap."

"So, what now?" Having been called out, Vryss’laar didn’t bother explaining further.

"We’ll have to wait until Zhar’khaen finds us. He knows Silent Echo Valley better than we do. He should have a solution."

"You really do know me well."

As soon as Gor’kan finished speaking, Zhar’khaen’s proud voice rang out. The two looked up to see him stepping out from within the cave.

"How did you come back so quickly?" Vryss’laar asked, full of joy.

"You picked a good spot. The cave’s end leads to another path. It’s quicker than going over the mountain. Come with me," Zhar’khaen said, turning to leave. But when he noticed Vryss’laar still sitting on the ground, he asked, "Why are you still sitting there?"

"I fell into the humans’ trap," the Vryss’laar replied with a bitter smile, briefly explaining how she had been poisoned with the strange Heavenly Dew.

"Heavenly Dew... Those damn humans!" Zhar’khaen’s face darkened. The Heavenly Dew was a toxin specifically designed to target demonic beasts. Once poisoned, the affected beast’s strength would gradually fade, and unless the antidote was found, they would eventually weaken to death.

For the proud and noble Pixiu, this kind of death was far worse than being killed in battle.

"Let’s not dwell on that for now. We need to leave this place immediately," Gor’kan said, walking over and lifting the Vryss’laar onto his back. "The humans and devils are tightening their encirclement. If we don’t leave now, we’ll never escape. We can worry about everything else later."

Zhar’khaen grimly nodded. "Follow me."

The three Pixiu quickly traversed the secret path hidden within the cave, moving through the vast mountain range in no time. Unseen and unnoticed, they emerged on the other side, safely slipping past the enemy’s encirclement.
