Chapter 857: Entrusting Wealth

"He’s my family. You can’t just demand him back, not unless he agrees," Amalia said calmly.

Hearing this, Zhar’khaen’s fiery anger momentarily paused as he shot her a strange look. "You treat one of our cubs as your family? Do you even know that a Pixiu cub can only truly thrive by staying with its own kind? Our inheritance is different from that of humans."

Zhar’khaen had never heard of a human treating a demonic beast as family. He wondered if Amalia was lying, but from her sincere expression, it didn’t seem like she was.

"If that weren’t the case, I wouldn’t have brought Wealth here to find you," Amalia admitted. She hadn’t expected that the seemingly simple-minded Wealth would possess such a powerful bloodline.

"Wealth?" Zhar’khaen was momentarily stunned, shifting his gaze to the small cub in her arms.

"He’s our son. His name is Wealth," Amalia explained briefly.

Zhar’khaen was once again taken aback. It was one thing to treat a demonic beast cub as family, but to raise him as a son? In all his years, he’d never heard of such a thing. Also, the name "Wealth" seemed a bit tasteless.

"Did you know from the start that he had a Pixiu bloodline?" Zhar’khaen asked, his expression becoming more serious.

"Of course not. If we had known, we wouldn’t have waited until now to come to you. I originally thought he was just an ordinary beast. His Lumina Scale Komodo bloodline is dominant right now, as you’ve probably noticed. If the Pixiu bloodline hadn’t suddenly been triggered, no one would have ever known he was a descendant of Pixiu."

This made sense. At first glance, Zhar’khaen had suspected as much. If the Pixiu bloodline didn’t activate on its own, even those closest to the cub might never have noticed it.

What ultimately convinced Zhar’khaen to believe them was the fact that after discovering the cub’s Pixiu bloodline, Amalia and Kenny had voluntarily brought him to them. Otherwise, they could have kept the truth hidden forever, and no one would have known.

"No matter your intentions, if you want the cub to be safe, you must entrust him to us. Only we know how to properly raise and train a Pixiu cub," Zhar’khaen said firmly.

Amalia hesitated for a moment. "Will we still be able to visit him?"

Zhar’khaen shook his head. "It’s best if you don’t. We won’t stay in Silent Echo Valley for long. As you’ve seen, since our location here has been exposed, both humans and devils have started pursuing us. We’ll likely keep moving to different places. If you try to visit, you might expose our whereabouts."

Amalia looked at Kenny Lin.

"Give Wealth to them. He’s right; only by being with them can Wealth receive the proper inheritance," Kenny Lin said with a righteous air.

If Amalia couldn’t see his selfish motives after knowing him for so long, it would be a waste of their friendship. However, the idea of "doing what’s best for Wealth" was enough to make her let go. Even with one’s own child, there comes a day when they must be allowed to grow on their own.

"I’m willing to entrust Wealth to you, but I hope you won’t disappoint me," Amalia agreed, finally relenting.

Zhar’khaen was overjoyed. "Rest assured, he’s one of our kind. We would never allow him to suffer."

Amalia gave him a strange look. "You’ve misunderstood. I’m not asking you to spoil him. He should face challenges. As the saying goes, ’bitter trials make the man.’ Excessive pampering will only harm him in the long run. I hope you understand that."

Zhar’khaen was left speechless.

"What’s the matter?" Amalia asked when she saw his hesitant expression.

Zhar’khaen shook his head, half-laughing. "It’s nothing. I’ll make sure to pass on your words."

"Pass on?" Amalia’s eyes narrowed. "Are you saying there are more than one of you?"

Zhar’khaen hesitated briefly, then nodded. "I have two companions, both stronger than me. The outside world believes there’s only one Pixiu left, so I hope you’ll keep this a secret, even from your master."

Amalia shook her head. "I won’t tell others, but if my master asks, I’ll say it was on his advice that we brought Wealth to you. He’s also the one who told us there were Pixiu in Silent Echo Valley."

Zhar’khaen frowned but said nothing more. If what she said was true, her master must be a formidable figure in the human world. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have resisted the temptation to take in a Pixiu cub. "Alright, can you hand over the cub now?"

"Not yet," Amalia shook her head again.

Zhar’khaen was taken aback, then his face darkened with anger. "What do you mean? Are you going back on your word? Do you really think you can beat me?"

Amalia remained calm despite his fury. "What I mean is, you’re currently being pursued by powerful humans and devils. If Wealth stays with you, he’ll likely be in danger as well. It would be better to wait until you’ve regrouped and are confident you can escape. Then, I’ll hand him over."

Zhar’khaen’s anger subsided immediately, realizing he had misunderstood them. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he muttered, "Alright, fair enough."

"Can you tell us about your current situation?" Amalia asked, tucking Wealth back into her clothes.

"Be gentler," Zhar’khaen couldn’t help but comment, seeing her somewhat rough movements.

"Don’t worry, he’s tough. When my companion first met him, he was being chased by a whole group of people..."

"Who dared to hunt down a cub of my race?" Zhar’khaen cut her off, his expression fierce.

"...It’s all in the past now," Amalia replied.

Zhar’khaen was still displeased. "Tell me who dared to hunt him down. If I ever get the chance, I won’t let them off."

"Trust me, you’ll never meet them in this lifetime." Considering they didn’t even know how to return to Earth, encountering those people again on Mystic Void Continent was nearly impossible.

Zhar’khaen, however, misunderstood, assuming those people had already been killed. His opinion of Amalia and Kenny Lin improved significantly. If his feelings had initially been negative, they were now up to an eight out of ten in approval.
