Chapter 1124: Among Us
Chapter 1124: Among Us
The force of the blade soon shredded Xevra’s internal organs.
Blood gushed from his mouth, spilling even more as he tried to speak.
"You... you’re not..."
Amalia yanked the blade free, and Xevra collapsed, lifeless.
The rest of his words would never be spoken.
The two of them stripped the bodies, took their communication terminals and changed their appearances to resemble Xevra and Noryn.
Amalia took on Noryn’s form, as his demeanor was more cold and ruthless, while Kenny Lin transformed into Xevra.
"This guy sure had a foul mouth," Amalia remarked, thinking he resembled someone else she knew.
She didn’t voice that thought aloud, though.
"With the identities of the captains, we should be able to approach the higher-ranking aliens aboard the battleship now," Kenny Lin said, rolling his neck as he adjusted to his new appearance.
"Not necessarily. We still don’t fully understand the aliens’ hierarchical structure, though their class distinctions seem to be strict," Amalia noted.
She hadn’t missed the impatience in Xevra’s eyes earlier.
If she hadn’t fed him those specific lines, he likely would’ve dismissed her outright.
While Amalia and Kenny Lin were dealing with the two alien captains, the spaceship floating in space was salvaged by the aliens.
If they had been any later, it might have been lost in the depths of the universe forever.
It was confirmed to be Lorrik’s spaceship, but the vessel had sustained severe damage, suggesting it had been gravely compromised.
The contents of the ship were also emptied out—a behavior strikingly similar to humans’.
These inferior humans, even with scraps of discarded technology, could spend days studying it.
Since no one was aboard the ship, the aliens dispatched to inspect the battleship’s nooks and crannies reported finding no suspicious intruders onboard.
This development became a frustrating mystery for the aliens.
"If this is some human ploy, and they deliberately used the ship to distract us, knowing we could track Lorrik’s ship, then how did they manage to evade our radar detection? How did the ship vanish and then suddenly reappear right in front of us?"
In the meeting room, several alien commanders debated the issue further.
Until they unraveled this mystery, they couldn’t rest easy.
If humans could spread this kind of technology widely, even with their inferior combat capabilities, it could lead to unforeseen complications.
Moreover, this technology transcended the technology in the high-dimensional space.
Previously, they would never have believed that the Andromeda Universe possessed such capabilities.
Thus, they were determined to uncover the reason behind the spaceship’s disappearance and sudden reappearance.
"What’s the status of the spaceship inspection?"
"Reporting to the general, the inspection is underway, but the results won’t be ready for another hour," the adjutant responded.
"An hour? We’re almost at Shadron already. If you ask me, we might as well go straight to Shadron, round up those humans, and interrogate them. If they’re hiding some kind of technology, we’ll kill them all until they talk," Zorik said, licking his lips bloodthirstily.
The middle-aged general asked, "How much longer until we reach Shadron?"
"Ten minutes," the adjutant answered crisply.
Ten minutes passed in a flash.
By the time they finished their brief discussion, the radar showed that they had reached Shadron’s coordinates.
On the massive screen, where there should have been a small planet resembling an iron-gray glass marble, there was nothing at all.
The adjutant was instantly dumbfounded.
"What’s going on? Didn’t you say we’d reach Shadron in ten minutes?" The middle-aged general furrowed his brow and looked at the adjutant.
"A mistake like this isn’t something an adjutant should be making," Zorik chimed in gleefully, relishing the situation.
A bead of cold sweat slid down the adjutant’s temple. "I’ll check on it immediately."
"No need. It’s better if we all go and take a look. I’m eager to see the terrified expressions of the humans on Shadron when we arrive," Zorik said as he stood abruptly. "Relaying messages is just too slow."
"Is it really necessary to mobilize such a force for a mere lower-lever planet?" Another alien commander asked, seemingly puzzled.
"I think it is. The mere possibility that humans might control technology capable of blocking our signals is reason enough. Trash from a low-dimensional universe has no right to possess technology belonging to a higher-dimensional universe," Zorik sneered, his eyes glinting with disdain and arrogance.
As he finished, he glanced toward the middle-aged man called General Aelra, the supreme commander of the cosmic battleship.
"Let’s go take a look," Aelra agreed, though not necessarily because of Zorik’s argument.
He found it hard to believe that such a basic error could occur among their ranks.
The group left the war room and proceeded toward the battleship’s control room.
As the door opened, a figure stood outside.
"Noryn, what are you doing here?" Aelra asked casually upon seeing the person.
"General, are you heading to the control room? May I join you?" Amalia who is disguised herself as Noryn, saluted sharply.
Amalia dared to approach him thanks to Kenny Lin’s talent as a drama king. That talent had allowed them to extract valuable information and blend seamlessly among the aliens without giving themselves away.
Noryn was Aelra’s direct subordinate, so the question wasn’t out of place.
"Why the sudden interest?" Aelra asked offhandedly.
Amalia raised her brow slightly. "It’s strange that we haven’t reached Shadron after all this time."
Aelra nodded in approval, his expression showing a trace of satisfaction.
As a subordinate he had carefully cultivated, such keen observation was a necessary quality.
"Very well, come along," Aelra said, turning to lead the way.
Amalia quickly followed him while sensing someone’s gaze on her.
Using her heightened awareness, she identified the watcher as Zorik, one of the alien commanders.
Aelra is the highest-ranking leader of the battleship, seemed to tolerate Zorikn’s demeanor.
However, Zorik’s attitude didn’t align with that of someone who strictly followed orders.
Amalia then subtly observed the other two alien commanders.
Their indifferent expressions suggested neutrality; they appeared to have no strong opinions about what was happening.
