Chapter 1010: Breakthrough (Part 3)
The prodigies, however, paid no mind to the wandering spirits. Since the spirits didn’t seem interested in attacking, the elites returned to their original task: wrestling with the mysterious boxes hidden within the cold currents.
Having abandoned their loftier targets, most participants managed to grab one or two boxes.
One cultivator opened a box and cried out in delight, discovering a divine artifact inside. His sheer joy reverberated across the group, earning him envious looks from all sides.
Everyone coveted a divine artifact. Even the lowest-grade one could elevate a cultivator’s power to unprecedented heights.
Alas, the boxes were concealed within radiant orbs of light, their contents completely hidden. If only they could see the shape of the boxes—round, square, or oblong—they might be able to guess what treasures lay within.
Amalia, meanwhile, fixed her gaze on the streaking orbs of light zipping past her field of vision.
These radiant orbs had no discernible pattern. A box might pass by once and never appear again, as though taunting her for her lack of timing.
Thus, hoping to observe and seize a preferred box at the right moment was an impossible strategy.
Realizing this, Amalia didn’t hesitate. She struck decisively at a box that was flying directly toward her.
Leaping out from the water, she instantly felt the immense gravitational force of the surrounding space.
The box she chose glowed with moderate brightness, not particularly challenging to capture. Without even examining it, she quickly stored it away.
Meanwhile, Kenny Lin managed to grab two more boxes.
As time ticked by, the number of boxes everyone collected steadily increased. Smiles spread across their faces—no matter what treasures they contained, any item from the immortal realm was a prize worth celebrating.
Kenny Lin had lost track of how many boxes he had collected. His gaze now locked onto the brightest clusters of glowing orbs in the distance.
Amalia placed her latest box into her Soltice Ring. Following his line of sight, she too noticed those dazzlingly radiant orbs.
The prodigies from various sects and factions had also set their sights on these blindingly bright orbs.
Unlike Kenny Lin, none of the others had yet dared to go after these miniature suns. They had little confidence in their success.
Given the difficulty, individual attempts seemed unwise. Recognizing this, disciples from the major sects began gathering to discuss cooperative strategies.
"I’ll make the first move and snatch another one. When I fall, you attack me immediately," Kenny Lin declared without hesitation.
"Will that really work?" Amalia frowned, her tone laced with concern. It still seemed incredibly dangerous to her.
"Fortune favors the bold ones," Kenny Lin retorted. He had already resolved to grab a few more, no matter the risk.
"Then let me go instead," Amalia offered firmly.
"Absolutely not. Watch my movements and coordinate with me. My life is in your hands," Kenny Lin said resolutely, rejecting her outright. Dangerous tasks like this? There was no way he’d let Amalia take the risk.
Amalia could only relent, though her worry lingered.
These brightest orbs moved with little discernible pattern—sometimes none would appear for half an hour or more. Their luck, however, seemed to turn. As the others waited, a glowing orb, moving at near-lightning speed, shot directly past them.
"Now!" Kenny Lin exclaimed, leaping into action.
It could be said that less than a fraction of a second had passed. While others were overcome with envy and disbelief at the feat, certain they could never replicate it, Kenny Lin had already taken action.
As the glowing orb approached, he predicted its trajectory a step ahead. Leaping out of the water, he stretched out a hand, firmly clasping the box. The box was large, but he stabilized it by pressing it against his arm and torso. His body plummeted downward at great speed.
Amalia reacted instantly, her blade flashing out with a swift arc. A streak of light shot forward.
Kenny Lin’s feet struck this arc of light as he fell. The downward force of his fall collided with the blade’s energy, neutralizing most of the impact.
As Kenny Lin sank into the water, Amalia grabbed his arm and, with a forceful pull, hauled him back to the surface.
The entire sequence unfolded seamlessly, so smoothly that no one could believe it was their first time executing such a maneuver together.
"That was incredible! So cool!" Seongwoo Jin’s eyes sparkled with admiration. "If we used this move to impress girls, it’d totally work!"
"Senior Sister, let’s try their method!" Kailash Ren exclaimed excitedly.
"You underestimate their synergy. Both the angle and timing must be perfect. Her blade had to strike just before the other landed—too early or too late, and the entire plan would fail," Dayeon Xinyue explained with a shake of her head. "Not everyone can pull this off."
"Then we can’t use this technique?" Kailash Ren said, disappointed.
"Not necessarily," Jiae Yao interjected with a smile.
"What do you mean, Senior Sister Yao? Are you saying we can?"
Jiae Yao chuckled. "They worked as a pair, but there’s no rule saying it must be just two people. If we collaborate with more people, it could be much safer."
"That’s true!"
Others apparently shared the same idea. The disciples of the Eternal One Sect quickly put the plan into practice.
However, their first attempt failed. It wasn’t just about the angle; the timing was even more critical. If the blade struck too soon or too late, it could hit their own teammates instead of aiding them—an amusing but dangerous prospect.
The prodigies of the Green Lotus Sect split into three groups. When they finally succeeded in grabbing one of the boxes, they felt the immense resistance that had made Kenny Lin’s task so challenging, requiring Amalia’s intervention.
The force almost threw their bodies away entirely. Without sufficient backup, they would have been dragged into the depths.
Even so, the first casualty occurred. A mishap during the Demonic Night Palace’s attempt resulted in disaster.
Raon Lai failed to maintain his grip on the box and was flung out.
