Chapter 1011: Breakthrough (Part 4)

Dongjian Zhao’s group couldn’t save him in time, and Raon Lai was ultimately sucked into the water’s depths.

"Demonic Night Palace deliberately sent Raon Lai up," Eunbyeol Ling observed, her tone sharp as she exposed Dongjian Zhao’s scheme.

Grabbing a box required absolute trust in the teammates positioned below to catch them. Without that trust, the likelihood of being pulled under increased dramatically.

Dongjian Zhao clearly didn’t trust his sectmates, so he sent Raon Lai instead.

Raon Lai’s misplaced trust in Dongjian Zhao and his insufficient strength had ultimately cost him his life.

"Foolish guy. How could anyone trust Dongjian Zhao?" Seongwoo Jin taunted loudly.

He was irritated—not just at Raon Lai’s failure to hold onto the box but also at how his incompetence had cost his life and stirred suspicion about their group.

Meanwhile, Jirandal Tang and Taeseon Lei succeeded on their second attempt, thanks to meticulous teamwork.

Their success spurred larger sects like the Divine Maiden Sect and Eternal One Sect into action. After multiple failures and crashes, they began making progress, claiming some of the brightest glowing orbs. Now, only a few of the most dazzling orbs remained.

In a corner, someone watched with growing anxiety.

"What should we do? These brilliant orbs seem to contain extraordinary treasures. If we don’t act now, we’ll lose our chance!"

"We cannot make a move. If we do, we’ll be discovered. What we’ve gained already is good enough," a dark-faced man replied. He glanced at the box in his hand, his eyes glimmering with a fiery greed. The thought of a divine artifact still tantalized him, but he added firmly, "Our mission is complete, and the harvest is substantial. Let’s not risk everything for a small gain."

"...Understood."

Kenny Lin, emboldened by his earlier success, waited for another glowing orb to pass near him.

Because Amalia had forbidden him from chasing the brighter, more distant orbs, he had no choice but to wait. Fortunately, luck was on his side. When another orb came close, Kenny Lin leaped into action, capturing the box within.

But something felt off the moment he pulled it free.

The box was far heavier than expected, dragging him downward almost instantly.

Amalia, ever vigilant, noticed the abnormality immediately. She reacted with unmatched speed, slashing her blade twice in rapid succession. The two arcs of light overlapped with nearly perfect precision, merging into one by the time they reached beneath Kenny Lin’s feet, neutralizing most of the downward force.

Despite her swift action, Kenny Lin still crashed into the water with even more force than last time.

Amalia rushed forward, determined to summon all her strength to pull him up. Just as she reached for him, another figure darted over, grabbing her hand. Together, they combined their efforts and managed to pull Kenny Lin out of the water.

Once assured that Kenny Lin was unharmed, Amalia turned to face their unexpected helpers—Jirandal Tang and Taeseon Lei. They had been closest at the time. Gratefully, she nodded at them. "Thank you."

Jirandal Tang shook his head. "It’s nothing. As long as martial uncle’s fine. But... these boxes seem to be changing."

"Their speed has increased, and they’ve gotten heavier," Kenny Lin said grimly.

He had only realized this while holding the box, which explained why it had required more than just Amalia to save him.

At that moment, the glowing orbs in the freezing current seemed to lose their levitation. Like shooting stars, they plunged into the water. Those nearby rushed excitedly to grab them, but before anyone could touch a box, they sank swiftly into the depths, disappearing without a trace.

"Exactly half an hour," someone observed.

"No! How could this happen?"

A few cultivators stared in shock, desperate to dive into the water to retrieve the vanished boxes. However, the memory of the Demonic Night Palace disciple who had sunk and never resurfaced held them back. Despite their reluctance, they could only suppress their frustration.

The time frame had become evident: exactly half an hour. From the moment they entered this river until the boxes sank to the bottom, that was all the time they had.

Before discovering the river, no one had realized these boxes were time-sensitive. After precisely thirty minutes, the boxes disappeared.

Among the cultivators, some had assumed the boxes would continue floating indefinitely. Thinking there was plenty of time, they hadn’t hurried to grab them. After all, there were so many boxes—it seemed impossible for everyone present to claim them all at once.

They were wrong. Their leisurely approach left them watching helplessly as every box vanished before their eyes.

While others clutched one or two boxes in their hands—glowing brightly or faintly—the cultivators who had waited too long could only seethe with jealousy. Their eyes reddened with frustration, envy, and greed as they stared at the boxes others had secured.

Those who had boxes quickly secured them, mimicking Amalia’s approach. Many didn’t even look inside, making sure no one else could see the contents.

"Damn it!" Dongjian Zhao growled, his face dark with resentment.

The Demonic Night Palace had failed to claim even one of the brightest glowing orbs.

Yunse Qiao hadn’t managed to grab any either, but he remained composed, unlike Dongjian Zhao.

The brightest orbs required a perfect combination of timing, location, and teamwork. They weren’t something one could seize with sheer luck. Having never had a glowing orb pass close by, the group had eventually settled for less, reaping some decent rewards.

The Light Demon Sect disciples, in contrast, were entirely satisfied with their haul.

Among all the sects, only the Green LotusSect, Eternal One Sect, Divine Maiden Sect, and Artifact Refining Valley had successfully claimed the brightest orbs.

The Green Lotus Sect had captured the most boxes overall. With their strength and numbers, no one dared entertain any thoughts of stealing from them.

"Let’s go. We should cultivate before the Immortal Spring was closed," Hanjun Wangye said to Chohwan Jin.

These wild cultivators had never aimed for the brightest orbs.
