Forest Ranger: Starting with a Giant Panda Mom Clinging to Me
Chapter 39 - Where’s My Honey? Where’s My Big Ol’ Honey?

Chapter 39: Where’s My Honey? Where’s My Big Ol’ Honey?

Bzzz bzzz bzzz!!

The dense swarm of hornets chased Panda Mom, stinging her relentlessly.

She howled in pain.

Hornet stingers were far fiercer than bees’. Thankfully, her thick fur protected most of her body, though her nose took the brunt of the attack.

In agony, Panda Mom fell from the tree. Luckily, she hadn’t climbed too high, and her thick layer of fat cushioned the fall, leaving her unharmed.

But Lin Tian had no time to check on her. The hornets had caught the scent of other creatures nearby and were now flying toward him!

Bzzz bzzz bzzz!

Dozens of hornets zoomed his way. Sweat beaded on Lin Tian’s forehead.

Panda Mom might shrug off hornet venom, but he couldn’t! Even with spiritual water to protect his life, a sting would still hurt like hell!

> “Damn! They’re heading for Brother Tian!”

> “Brother Tian, run!”

> “It’s over—he’s not getting away!”

> “So many! This is bad!!”

> “Hornet venom can be deadly!”

> “I’m shaking just watching this through a screen.”

The live stream audience watched with worry.

These were hornets!

Lin Tian desperately wanted to run, but he knew it was too late. His running speed couldn’t outpace hornets! He had to take a gamble.

Gritting his teeth, Lin Tian tore off his jacket and wrapped it tightly around the opening of his backpack to protect the panda cubs inside.

Then, swallowing hard, he steadied his mind and stared at the approaching hornets, trying to project no hostility.

The live stream audience was baffled by his actions.

        • “???”
        • “???”
        • “What’s Brother Tian doing? Why’s he taking off his clothes instead of running?!”
        • “Brother Tian, you’re not planning to feed yourself to the hornets, are you?”
        • “Brother Tian, have you lost your mind?!”

The comments exploded with excitement. The hornets were almost upon him.

Lin Tian locked his gaze on them, keeping his mind calm and free of malice.

At that moment, the hornets reached him. The audience couldn’t bear to watch, closing their eyes.

It’s over. He’s getting stung!

Lin Tian’s heart raced, but he focused on breathing slowly, watching the scene unfold.

“Your hive wasn’t attacked by me—it’s not my fault,” he said softly.

Bzzz bzzz bzzz.

The buzzing was right in his ears.

He could even see the sharp stingers of the hornets.

(Enemy! Enemy!!)

The hornets circled him but didn’t attack. They could understand Lin Tian’s words.

Despite their agitation, they held back, merely buzzing around him in circles, darting close then pulling back. But they didn’t sting him.

        • “???”
        • “???”
        • “What’s happening?!”
        • “No way … this can’t be real!”
        • “The hornets aren’t attacking Brother Tian?”
        • “How the hell did he do that?!”
        • “Damn! Brother Tian, you’re a god!”
        • “Mom, don’t ask why I’m kneeling while watching this stream—I’ve seen a legend!”
        • “Holy crap!”

The audience was floored, the live stream flooded with question marks reflecting their disbelief.

Seeing the hornets spare him, Lin Tian exhaled in relief. It seemed the special effect of the small stone worked on insects too, making them feel an affinity for him.

“Maybe it’s because I’m so kind that the hornets couldn’t bear to attack me?” Lin Tian quipped, glancing at the comments with a grin.

        • “???”
        • “Brother Tian, do you even hear yourself?”
        • “Who was it that just raided a rabbit burrow earlier?”

The comments roasted him.

Lin Tian ignored the stream and focused on the hornets around him. While they didn’t attack him, the Chinese Alligator and pangolin nearby weren’t so lucky.

But the alligator was even tougher than Panda Mom—by rolling over, it made itself impervious to the hornets’ stings.

The pangolin was even more absurd. It stood upright excitedly, eyeing the hornets in the air. These were free food delivered right to it! Pangolins didn’t just eat bees—hornets were on the menu too!

Bzzz bzzz bzzz

(Predator! Retreat! Retreat!)

Soon, as many of their comrades ended up in the pangolin’s stomach, the hornets realized they were outmatched. Unable to harm the pangolin, and with their numbers dwindling, the remaining few scattered and fled.

Lin Tian breathed a sigh of relief.

Looking over at Panda Mom, he saw she’d mostly handled her situation too. She’d gotten smarter, covering her nose with one paw while swatting with the other.

Each swipe crushed swaths of hornets.

Their stings couldn’t penetrate her thick fur. Realizing they couldn’t harm her and with their numbers decimated, the hornets reluctantly flew off.

The hornet attack was finally over.

Lin Tian sighed in relief—thankfully, no major issues. He picked up his backpack and walked toward Panda Mom.

After driving off the hornets, she wiggled her butt excitedly and headed for the hornet’s nest.

She grabbed it in her mouth and ran toward Lin Tian. This startled him. Who knew if there were still hornets lingering in that nest?

Thankfully, there weren’t.

When Panda Mom reached him, she eagerly tore open the nest, desperate for honey.

“Ying ying…”

(Mine, wanna eat!)

She clutched the nest tightly, refusing to let Lin Tian take it, as if afraid he’d confiscate it again.

But Lin Tian didn’t try to take it. Because … how could a hornet’s nest have honey?

Sure enough, when Panda Mom turned away and ripped open the nest, she found only a mass of white hornet larvae eggs inside. No honey at all.

She froze, her brain short-circuiting for a moment. She couldn’t believe it—after all that effort, the nest she’d fought so hard for had no honey!

“Ying ying?!”

(Where’s my sweet stuff?!)

Panda Mom tore through the nest, searching desperately, but there was no honey to be found. She then climbed onto Lin Tian’s lap, lifting his clothes.

“Ying ying…”

It was as if she was checking if Lin Tian had hidden it.

        • “Hahaha, does Panda Mom not know hornet nests don’t have honey?”
        • “Good grief, she thinks Brother Tian hid it!”
        • “Panda Mom: Stinky Dad, did you hide my honey?”
        • “Panda Mom: Where’s my honey? Where’s my big ol’ honey?”
