Forest Ranger: Starting with a Giant Panda Mom Clinging to Me -
Chapter 40 - The Wolf Pack
Chapter 40: The Wolf Pack
The audience burst into laughter.
Lin Tian, dealing with Panda Mom incessantly lifting his clothes, was exasperated.
He tapped her round head. “Stop looking. It’s a hornet’s nest—there’s no sweet honey in it.”
“Ao …” Hearing there was no honey, Panda Mom froze, as if turned to stone.
No honey? How could there be none? What was all her hard work for? Wahhh.
She looked ready to cry. Life as a bear was too hard!
Lin Tian sighed helplessly. Though Panda Mom didn’t get her honey, it wasn’t a total loss. The nest was full of hornet larvae—prime delicacies for the pangolin.
At that moment, the pangolin was gleefully devouring the larvae with its tongue, utterly delighted.
Mmm. Thank you, Mother Nature!
- “Hahaha, the pangolin’s getting all the benefits!”
- “Panda Mom’s crying her eyes out.”
- “Pangolin: Thank you, Mother Nature’s gift!”
…
The pangolin was truly stuffed this time. An entire hornet’s nest, plus the hornets Panda Mom swatted, all went into its belly.
It looked content, its little belly round and bulging. It was deeply grateful to Panda Mom for providing such a feast. Feeling bolder, the pangolin cautiously approached her, nudging her with its little head to express thanks.
But Panda Mom, sulking over the lack of honey, wasn’t in the mood and ignored it. She squatted under the tree, leaning her head against it, lost in gloomy thoughts about her bear life.
Seeing her like this, Lin Tian shook his head and rubbed her round head to comfort her.
“Alright, don’t be sad. Here, have some.”
He broke off a piece of the earlier beehive and handed it to her.
Panda Mom’s small eyes lit up at the sweet scent.
“Ying ying!”
She grabbed it and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Ying ying~”
(So yummy!)
She savored it, eating the honeycomb too, licking her paws afterward, reluctant to let any flavor go.
A total foodie.
- “Panda Mom’s such a foodie.”
- “She’s happy as long as there’s food.”
- “So easy to please.”
- “I’ve got honey ready—Brother Tian, when can I borrow Panda Mom to feed her?”
…
After eating the honey, Panda Mom perked up again.
Seeing this, Lin Tian led them back. Catching rabbits and swiping honey had delayed them, and the sun was already setting.
If they didn’t hurry, it’d be dark soon.
“Panda Mom, let’s go.” Lin Tian shouldered his backpack and started walking.
Panda Mom, seeing him leave, hurriedly waddled after him on all fours. The Chinese Alligator, which had been resting, followed suit. The pangolin, seeing its “big brothers” moving, panicked and scurried to keep up.
On the way back, as expected, the delays caught up with them. Before they reached the residence, the sky began to darken.
Lin Tian’s heart tightened. The forest wasn’t safe at night. Most animals hunted after dark. He hoped they wouldn’t run into any predators. But the more you fear something, the more likely it is to happen.
As Lin Tian walked, he suddenly heard a faint rustling behind him. He paused, startled, and turned to look. What he saw made his heart skip a beat.
In the dim forest, pairs of glowing green eyes emerged from the shadows! They were eerie in the twilight.
- “Holy crap! Something’s behind them!”
- “What the hell is that?!”
- “So many eyes!”
- “Oh no, Brother Tian’s being stalked!”
…
“Roar!” Panda Mom noticed the followers too, alerted by Lin Tian’s reaction.
Her roar caused the glowing eyes to quiver slightly. Then Lin Tian saw what they were.
A wolf pack! Somehow, they’d been tailed by wolves—seven or eight of them.
- “So many dogs!”
- “Why are there so many dogs in this forest?”
- “Are you idiots? Look at the drooping tails—those are wolves!”
- “What?! A wolf pack?!”
…
The audience was shocked to realize it was wolves.
Lin Tian’s heart raced. Wolves were patient hunters, and with so many in the pack, shaking them off wouldn’t be easy.
“Awoo~!”
“Hiss!”
“Roar!”
Panda Mom and alligator, spotting the threat, roared in unison to ward off the enemy. As for the pangolin, it had already curled into a tight ball …
The wolves hesitated, intimidated by Panda Mom’s power, and didn’t dare approach. But they weren’t ready to leave either. The pack had been hungry for a while, and having caught a scent, they weren’t willing to give up so easily.
