Chapter 27: Reunion.

"Honey." Jen said, pulling Beth into a bear hug as she stood by the entrance, Ray coming up behind her.

"Oh, look what the cat dragged in." Raymond teased, a genuine smile gracing his lips.

"You made it. I was so worried." Jen said, patting down her daughter’s hair.

"Oh, that’so true." Ray chipped.

"Oh really? I thought you said you weren’t worried?" Beth teased her Mom as they separated.

"Ha, she was so worried she did all of your chores." Ray said, coming up to hug his daughter. "Welcome home." He said.

"Thanks , Pops." She replied, patting him lightly on his back.

"Good. Now come sit. Bet you’ve got a lot to say because you smell so much like them."

"Exactly! I couldn’t get the faintest whiff of her own scent, just theirs." Jen said, worry etched on her face.

"Mom, relax. Please. I swear it’s not a big deal. I spent sometime with them, so smelling like them shouldn’t be weird." Beth explained, shrugging her shoulders.

"Mmmm. Something’s changed." Raymond said, his thoughtful gaze on her.

"What?" Beth asked, confused.

"You." He said plainly. "Maybe not you, but your perspective has definitely changed."

"How do you mean, Dad?" Beth asked, chuckling.

"I’m talking about you and ..them. Or the way you see them has definitely been modified." He replied, plainly.

Sighing, Beth’s shoulder’s slouched as she got ready to speak to her parents, concerning her mates.

"You are right, Dad. My thoughts about them have been modified. " She said.

"Okay. How so?" He said, crossing his arms across his chest.

"Well, I got tired of fighting, my emotions, the mate bond; I just felt that although it’s too good to be true, they’ve waited for so long and they are giving me all, so holding back isn’t exactly wise." She explained.

"They might not be completely genuine, but I’m tired of guessing. I want to enjoy and savor what we’ve got. No matter what the time frame might be."

Silence followed her response, as Raymond and Jen absorbed their daughters resolution. Raymond smiled softly at her, patting her softly on her shoulders, while Jen sat there, worry still sitting patiently on her face.

"That’s a smart move, Bunny. I’m proud of you." Ray said.

"Thank you." Beth whispered at the verge of tears.

"Honey. Are you sure about this? I’m very happy but I’m so confused as well." Jen complained, Raymond putting a hand over hers.

Clearing her throat, she wiped the tears that threatened to fall from her lids. "I’m sure, Mom. You know I wouldn’t do such thing without thinking seriously."

"Okay, then." Jen said, the worry in her face, dissipating almost completely. "But how did it go? How did you sleep?" She asked, causing Beth’s cheeks to redden immediately as images of last night replayed in her mind.

"Oh! Something did happen. I’m going to get Doritos." Raymond said, seriously heading to the shelf to get not just Doritos but some other chips.

"You guys are unserious. We were crying just now." Beth said, laughing.

"Speak for yourself and your mother, I didn’t cry." Raymond chimed, trying to carefully open the Doritos pack without bursting it.

"Oh please, I’m completely happy for her now. I was sad then." Jen defended, moving to a more comfortable couch. "Now, speak up, woman. It better be good, unless you’d pay me in cash for doing all your chores."

"What?! Thought that was just a good mother helping her daughter?!" Beth asked, and incredulous look on her face.

"Well, you are about to be a bad daughter if your gist turns out boring." Jen retorted lazily.

"Damn right." Raymond concurred.

Completely in awe of her parents reaction, she shook her head. "You guys should be in the mob." She muttered.

"Naa, we ain’t that good." Raymond chimed. "C’mon, baby. We ain’t got all day. You are following me to work today, remember."

"That’s true. Okay." Beth said, getting ready to spill as much information she could muster.

’Don’t forget to make it interesting.’ Maria chimed in her head.

"Well, they live in a lounge in the highest floors of a skyscraper. Everything like you might have seen in the video is black and some are rimmed with gold. And it’s not just their kitchen that’s huge, their rooms as well... especially mine."

"Yours?" Jen asked in confusion.

"Yes, Mom. Mine. And it was fully furnished. My bed is very big and round and has drapes falling all over, there’s a fully stocked closet there, and it’s big. That’s where I got everything I’m wearing. Hell, I have a boat load of scrunchies." She said laughing, like it was the craziest thing ever.

"Jeez. I understand the house part, and it’s called a penthouse, honey. Not a lounge." Jen corrected. "But the whole room part, that was, I don’t know. Like it was out of some story."

"They went all out, Beth. Now I understand why you changed your mind." Raymond said, his gaze a bit serious like he wasn’t at all impressed.

"Well, that was one of the substitute reasons, but not the exact reason." She said, looking down at her hands.

"What is it then?" Jen asked, becoming more and more curious.

"When we arrived, we had dinner first. It was a bit awkward and there was a bit of drama." She said chuckling as she remembered Barbie Lauren, "But eventually we got to talk. That night they had found me after the mating ceremony, we had a bit of a conversation."

"When I found out they knew who you guys were and infact every single thing about me, I got alarmed and was this close to rejecting them thinking they were creeps, but turns out they’d known since my 18th birthday that we were mates." Beth explained, pausing for a moment, allowing the boatload of information she’d released to be absorbed before she dropped another.

"Continue." Raymond said, readjusting.

"So since then, they’d been keeping tabs on not just me but on you guys. They know literally all there is to know about us. Not in a creepy way but, I hope you get the gist. So when I got there yesterday, I had decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, despite how terrified I am of the whole thing." She said chuckling.

"And after I did, I could see the vulnerability in their eyes. The affection and everything. And it tugged on my heart strings. Troy even made a magnificent charcoal dust painting of me. And when they took me round the house and showed me my room, I realized how intentional they were being."

"It wasn’t just the furnishing, it was the thought behind it. The clothes in the closet were all my tastes, nothing I wouldn’t like, well except the load of scrunchies, but from the robes to the shoes, even to the bath soap and sponge. They were exactly the same ones I like using here.-"

"-And to think they did all that, not knowing if I was ever going to accept them or not despite waiting so long for a fated mate was what made me open up to them." She said looking up to her father. Hoping she had convinced him that she wasn’t swayed by the extravagance, because she could hear the question behind his earlier acknowledgement.

Now he looked at her with a wide smile, pride sitting comfortably on his entire features, while Jen sat with a wide grin, more than excited that her baby hadn’t disappointed them.

"I’m proud of you, baby." Raymond said, pulling her in for a hug. "I’m so proud of you."
