Chapter 98: Chapter 98: The Moving Arsenal_1

The dead body of a Viper was ultimately hauled into Lu Xiang’s office. Before this, no one had ever brought criminals to them in this manner in Sector 17.

The cloaked man didn’t seem to be there to collect any bounty—he had tossed Viper’s corpse by the door as if it were trash.

"I’ve heard that our school has produced a rather outstanding junior, so I wanted to meet you while I happened to be passing by."

During his speech, the man removed his cloak hood.

Golden blond hair, azure-blue eyes, and handsome features, his first impression reflected the image of a righteous rescuer frequently seen on television.

But more eye-catching were the metallic marks beginning from his eyes and extending to his chin, and the similar metallic imprints on his temples. His entire face seemed to have been reinforced, giving off a sense of uncoordinated technologically advanced features.

A metal slot was installed at the back of his neck, seemingly for inserting a chip to connect to the network.

This was prosthetic implantation technology.

Even Song Lan, a layman, could tell that this man’s prosthetic was likely of significant value, definitely more advanced than Chai Ke’s 21% prosthesis modification. From what he had seen of Chai Ke, there was no noticeable difference between him and a regular person.

"This man..."

Next to him, a tuft of Zhuang Chi’s hair stood up in the air like an antenna. This was the first time Song Lan saw her raise her "probe" outside of concerning food.

Her eyes sparkled, her admiration was apparent, "He’s a wealthy man!"

"His whole skeleton is modified, his arms are military-grade combat prosthetics made from spatial technology. The bounties on all the criminals in this city combined are probably not worth as much as his hand. Furthermore, if he’s installed military-grade prosthetics, then his brain must have definitely been implanted with an operating system, geez..."

"Maintain your dignity, you’re drooling."

Song Lan glanced at Zhuang Chi and reminded her quietly.

There were no shortage of onlookers. It was inappropriate for a girl to drool publicly at a man.

"You don’t understand, this man is a walking arsenal. He could level our entire complex with the wave of a hand. I really want to strip off his clothes and admire meticulously!"

"Don’t say such ill-omened things."

Could you use a better example?

Who is ever proud of swinging the sword at their own self?

With a humble outlook to learn, Song Lan asked, "What do you mean by an operating system?"

He could understand the discussion on the potential high-tech weapons the man had. After all, it was 2166; it wouldn’t surprise anyone if a weapon could level an entire block. But he was unfamiliar with the term "operating system" mentioned by Zhuang Chi.

When he visited the prosthetic hospital, their expensive price list mentioned a package named "Cortical Neuron VII System", a companion system to the military-grade thermal cutting blade he so desired.

But the combined cost of these two packages was a sum Song Lan had never seen in his life.

"Huh? You don’t even know this? The operating system is the core of prosthetic implants. Only with an advanced operating system can you bring out the full potential of prosthetic implants,"

Zhuang Chi’s ’probe’ on her head swayed rhythmically. It complemented her professional explanation, "Let me give you an example, what do you think would mostly happen if a regular person got a military-grade prosthetic modification?"

"Ascend to the pinnacle of life?"

"No. I assure you that if they use the prosthetic for combat, they would kill themselves before the day is over. With the power of a military-grade prosthetic, just a little carelessness could harm you. Even thermal cutting blades, which is suitable for close combat in confined spaces, isn’t exempted. A misstep and you could cut off your arm."

"No wonder the program mentioned that it must be a companion to the ’Cortical Neuron VII System’."

"’Cortical Neuron VII System’? Where did you read about that?"

"On the prosthetic hospital’s package."

"The one in Third Patrol?"

"Yes."

"It’s a scam."

Zhuang Chi rolled her eyes, "That place was previously owned by Chai Ke; he specialized in conning rich idiots. Aside from a few relatively common packages, the remaining high-priced ones are all designed to rip off laymen who know nothing about prosthetic implantation. If they choose those high-priced packages, it proves they don’t understand a thing about prosthetic implantation, and they are exceptionally rich."

These people are undoubtedly Big Fat Sheep in the eyes of criminals.

"I think you can be less offensive."

Truth be told, the military-grade thermal cutting blade made him, who had rejected prosthetic implantation, consider it for a moment.

"In Sector 17, there isn’t a prosthetic hospital capable of conducting an operating system implantation. This surgery not only requires opening up the skull but also connecting the system to the neurons. A tiny mistake could lead to death on the operating table. Only the well-known prosthetic hospitals in the central region can perform this type of surgery."

The effects of an operating system implantation are naturally prominent, "Simply put, the operating system can give the user unrivaled insight, allowing the user to calculate like a precise computer. Through the operating system, they can accurately calculate the threat range of every weapon, for those with a high-level operating system, a stroll in a bulletstorm becomes a breeze."

"What an enlightening experience."

Song Lan sincerely nodded.

On the other side, the conversation between the man and Lu Xiang continued.

"I heard you dismantled the largest criminal organization in Sector 17 as soon as you were stationed here. You are very brave; I hope you can maintain this."

His condescending tone was like that of a leader inspecting work.

Lu Xiang merely nodded noncommittally.

From their eye exchange, it was not difficult to tell that their conversation was not as harmonious as the spoken words suggested.

Song Lan noticed Lu Xiang furrowing his eyebrows and exhibiting signs of rejection; it seemed he was not welcoming the visit of this senior.

"I’ve just received a report and need to rush to the scene."

"Working hard is good."

With a faint smile, the man seemed unconcerned about Lu Xiang’s cold gaze. He put on his hood again, "This man is supposed to be a small local boss. I took care of him along the way; think of it as a greeting gift."

Then, his expression suddenly cooled, "I heard something when I entered the city. The people here seem to fancy a person known as a ’conscientious citizen’. How can a coward, who dares not show his true face, bear the word ’justice’?"

The atmosphere in the hallway changed as soon as these words were out; the crowd, which was originally watching the scene unfold, instantly threw malevolent glances at him.

After dropping such animosity-inspiring statement, the man sauntered through the crowd and walked away without looking back.

Song Lan, who was in the crowd, felt as if he was unjustly accused.

He just didn’t understand why people had to be so aggressive to one another?
