Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Nemesis of the Salted Fish_1

Early this morning, a heinous crime indeed occurred in District 17.

The crime scene was located in the south of the city. When Song Lan and Lu Xiang arrived, the patrolling Law Enforcers had already cordoned off the scene, yet a pungent smell of blood could be smelled from a street away.

Considering that people at the scene might need psychological counseling, Song Lan had no choice but to take charge. However, he was more than happy to accompany Lu Xiang on this trip, as his intuition told him that the identity of their unexpected visitor was not simple, and his aggressive words made it clear he was not an easy person to deal with.

The crime took place in a well-known underground boxing ring in District 17, owned by Viper.

At the time of the incident, besides Viper himself, there were some of his underlings and regular customers gathered in the venue.

But now, Viper had his head crushed and his minions were scattered around the boxing ring. The killer did not give them any chance to resist; each blow was fatal. Not even the regular customers were spared.

This case stands out from the rest as they knew who the perpetrator was before they even entered.

"Reporting to the supervisor, no survivors were found at the scene."

The Law Enforcer reporting to Lu Xiang was terrified. They had just searched the entire building and even those who had tried to hide in cupboards and ductwork had been found and killed.

The killer didn’t bother deleting the surveillance footage when he left, allowing them to witness the entire process of the crime.

The commission of the crime was chilling. From the killer’s perspective, he was not murdering people, but exterminating pests.

Standing on the side and watching the entire surveillance footage, Song Lan noticed some more detailed elements.

The killer had a prosthetic right hand fitted with something similar to a military-grade thermal cutting blade. With a light sweep, it could cut a human body in half within three meters. The most tragic deaths were Viper’s underlings who directly confronted the killer at the entrance. In one fronting, four people turned into eight.

In addition, the killer’s left hand was equipped with "bullets" capable of tracking. Song Lan distinctly saw a bullet that was shot straight out, curved in the corridor, and pierced straight through the heart of a fleeing person.

The bullet that was fired didn’t seem real on the surveillance footage. The bullet head was shrouded by a pale blue arc light. Rather than leaving ordinary bullet holes when hitting the human body, it left a diffusive hole.

But what was more important was that the killer seemed to have known the location of everyone at the scene when he entered. Even if the hitmen and familiar customers who realized the danger had hid in various corners, he could skip the searching process and directly kill them one by one.

In the third minute of the footage, Song Lan saw the way Viper died.

Just like the head of the small gang he had encountered at the prosthetic hospital on his third patrol, he took a whole bottle of drugs before making his move. The effect of the drug seemed rather significant; the heat flow emitted by Viper’s whole body almost twisted the air. He ambushed behind the door and launched a sudden assault the moment the killer entered, raining down punches on the latter.

Viper, born as an underground boxer, surely had a profound understanding of the weaknesses of the human body. All his moves targeted the frail parts of the body, he even used moves such as knee hits. In the footage, the killer allowed Viper to hit him for a few seconds, then simply stretched out his hand, held Viper’s head, and effortlessly lifted the former into the air.

With a slight force exerted by that mechanical right hand, Viper was bleeding from his seven orifices, kicked his legs a couple of times, and then met his tragic end.

Zhuang Chi was not wrong. This person was simply a human-like Terminator.

Bullets couldn’t penetrate his defenses, and every shot he took meant a human life. Killing the people in the boxing ring seemed too easy and enjoyable for him. Song Lan was sure Viper and his men were wiped out without even pushing the killer to reveal his true skills.

"Let’s clean up the scene."

Lu Xiang said.

It was no longer necessary to continue the investigation. The killer blatantly exposed his face to the surveillance camera in this case. On their way here, she had already guessed the fate of these people.

What really bothered her was the statement the perp made before leaving.

He seemed to harbor a strong hostility towards "Good Samaritans".

"What is the background of this man?"

After the surrounding law enforcers left, Song Lan finally got a chance to ask, "Is he a rescuer?"

"Pero, a senior from a few years back, now one of the members of the United Government’s action department in the ’external world’."

Although they went to the same school, when she enrolled, Pero had already graduated. Even during her school days, she had heard a lot of rumors about Pero.

He graduated as the top student of his batch, but after graduation, he was directly deployed to the action department in the "external world".

It was a place where almost nobody wanted to go. Not only did they have to deal with the world’s most vicious criminals daily, but they also could not return to the United Government territory for years, and had to constantly travel in areas with extremely low material resources.

The reason for this outcome was simple - Pero had repeatedly ignored the orders from his superiors during his internship and directly killed the targets. This made him a problem student, and no department wanted to take in such a dangerous character after graduation.

It seemed that living in the "external world" had made Pero even more reckless.

"They are just passing through District 17 and won’t stay here for more than a few days."

This phrase was said to Song Lan, but it also seemed like she was comforting herself.

Unless something unexpected happens, Pero would continue in this manner until they left District 17, and the remaining two criminal groups would soon meet the same fate as Viper.

That was the justice Pero practiced.

"He advocates treating those who commit crimes, whether they are murderers, arsonists, or petty thieves, equally."

And his way of treating them equally was to personally end the lives of the criminals.

"Looks like he’s quite a radical justice enthusiast."

"In his eyes, you are probably guilty too."

"Huh? What did I do?"

Song Lan was absolutely taken aback, finding himself once again in the line of fire.

He felt the need to emphasize once more that firstly, he hadn’t provoked any of them!

The main reason why he came to the crime scene was almost entirely to learn about Pero’s advanced deeds.

"Dereliction of duty is also a crime."

Lu Xiang said, "I heard rumors about him when I was in school. He has executed teammates who fled during missions."

As a result, Pero received a very stern warning, but ultimately, the matter was hushed up by a teacher who appreciated him. And that teacher who appreciated Pero happened to be the current head of the "external world" action department.

Lu Xiang couldn’t guess Pero’s bizarre way of thinking, so she could only warn Song Lan, "You need to work diligently until they leave District 17."

Her following task was to avoid a meeting between Pero and the "Good Samaritans" as much as possible.

Upon hearing this, Song Lan finally took Pero seriously.

This man...

Undoubtedly was the nemesis of loafers!
