Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The Later the Appearance, the Stronger_1

The charred body was quickly carried away by the prison guards. A prisoner’s death was not an uncommon occurrence in the provincial prison.

"Rat" noticed that the guards seemed unsurprised by the muscular man’s fate and even wore a grin when he approached the woman.

However, this scene undoubtedly cast a significant psychological shadow over the other prisoners, leading them to instinctively maintain a distance of over twenty meters from the newly jailed woman.

After being jailed, the woman found a small room and quietly settled on a bed in the corner without interacting with the other inmates.

Having witnessed a blackened corpse being carried out, "Rat" grasped Dorago Safron’s sentiments during their office chat. He realized his escape plan through the front door was probably similar in nature to what the muscular man had done.

Despite the fact that he had been arrested, he had grown a lot. Upon seeing the woman, his focus was on her circumstances rather than being overwhelmed by desire. He had essentially shed his old skin and changed for the better.

In "Rat’s" eyes, this new woman seemingly had "danger" written all over her.

In the provincial prison, all inmates are devoid of restraints upon admission. This applies to everyone, be it murderers with countless lives on their hands, elite members of notorious criminal gangs, or even leaders of the four major criminal organizations in District Seventeen. The prison guards never gave any of them "special treatment".

Yet, the woman was covered in restraints, and her whole face was tightly sealed with a leather hood. Logically, she shouldn’t have been able to see her surroundings; yet, she raised an alarm the moment the muscular man approached her.

Unfortunately, the strapping man was even more reckless than he had been a few days prior.

"Rat" complimented himself on at least being sensible enough to heed warnings.

He excused his followers and approached the woman’s cell to validate his suspicions.

"Maintain a distance of at least 5 meters for your own safety."

Before "Rat" could enter, the woman’s chilly voice reached out again.

Exactly as he thought!

Even with her eyes covered, she seemed to sense changes in her environment. The mysterious current earlier led "Rat" to one significant conclusion, "You’re a psychic, aren’t you?"

In the past, some criminals who sought entertainment in his establishment mentioned the existence of psychics.

He had heard that Phine Elnium, who once single-handedly invaded District Seventeen causing a city-wide lockout, was also a psychic. However, this was his first encounter with a psychic in real life, and she was less than ten meters away from him.

"I can’t aid you in escaping prison, so let it go."

Rather than answering "Rat’s" question, the woman stated matter-of-factly.

"Rat" was taken aback. This was precisely why he sought her out privately.

How could he, a leader of a crime syndicate, stay obediently in prison? He had kept an eye on the recent news and knew this was the perfect time to escape.

High Prosecutor Dominas had committed suicide, the mayor of Lyon stepped down early, and the next mayoral election was in chaos. The "extraneous" criminals were eager to take action after breaking free from their once controlling Foster Family. No one could predict the city’s future, nor did big shots care about the provincial prison.

Even if an escape happened during this period, it would not cause a major stir.

However, escaping from this prison alone was somewhat unrealistic—he needed extra help.

This was why he had always advertised his feat of blowing up the conference venue.

In "Rat’s" view, the woman in front of him was undoubtedly the best candidate.

"Why, don’t you want to escape? I can find a way to remove your restraints."

"Before you put that plan into action, you will end up the same as that man earlier."

"I see."

"Rat" felt that he had solved another mystery—the muscular man earlier probably triggered a trap while trying to forcibly remove the woman’s restraints, which electrocuted him into charcoal. The five meters the woman mentioned when he entered must have been the safe distance.

"Even if you manage to remove these restraints, it’s meaningless."

As if reading his mind again, the woman warned, "If you still want to leave this place, stay away from me."

He failed to negotiate and was snubbed.

But "Rat" was not disheartened. After all, he had experienced significant situations—he was at the city-wide meeting when the venue was blown up. Although the law enforcers had locked him in a dark room at the time, not everyone could claim such an experience.

He had a significant lead over his other three competitors. He had a feeling that if he could escape from this place, fame and fortune would be within his grasp.

The woman remained silent except for a soft chuckle, leaving "Rat" puzzled.

..................

Meanwhile, at the Law Enforcement Manor.

The sudden uproar outside stalled Song Lan’s movie. The familiar sound of discussion indicated something exciting was afoot—Dominas’s visit to District Seventeen had also caused a stir.

Unlike last time’s pure thrill of joining his colleagues to watch an exciting scene, a sense of unease swept over him.

He had no idea when, but a faint smell of blood permeated the air.

Only after the commotion faded did he remove his headphones and peek his head out the door.

What he saw was a long trail of blood that led upstairs, directly to Lu Xiang’s office.

He followed the trail, quickly catching up with the majority of the onlookers.

Through the crowd, he spotted the source of the bloody trail—a grotesque corpse.

The deceased’s face appeared to have been subjected to some massive pressure before death, crushing his facial features.

The roughly 1.8-meter-tall man’s dead body was being held up like a chicken by another man.

This man, whom he had never seen before, was shrouded in a grey cloak and exuded an intense sense of mystery from head to toe.

His right arm didn’t look like a normal human arm, as it was covered in a layer of some type of silver-white metal.

"Who’s the corpse?"

In the crowd, Song Lan spotted Zhuang Chi, who had also come to watch the commotion, and quietly asked him.

"Viper," Zhuang Chi replied.

"Viper?"

"He operated seven underground boxing rings, won the Deathmatch championship multiple times, and was equally problematic as ’Rat’."

The moment Zhuang Chi mentioned "Rat," Song Lan understood.

This Viper was likely another one of the leaders of the remaining three crime syndicates.

But...

Aren’t characters introduced later supposed to be stronger following story development?

This Viper got killed even before he had made his appearance?

Viper, what were you doing, Viper?
