Chapter 967: Chapter 885: Beware of Fraud_3
She wasn’t joking.
Many in the army had already begun discussing the chief’s transformation after arriving at the Oasis.
Esinvig’s penchant for drink was common knowledge, and the leader’s alcoholism had brought them quite a few problems in the past.
At times like this, the chief would have usually rounded up a few familiar faces from the Rebel Army’s leaders and members and found a place to drink himself into oblivion.
But this time, since arriving at Oasis, the chief hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol.
Not only that, he had also become much more thoughtful, idly standing atop the tower dome, overlooking the entire city—something reserved for those enigmatic individuals fond of deep mysteries, and it didn’t suit their chief one bit.
"I understand, thank you for your hard work."
"It’s been tough."
Finally, Aishi dropped the polite "I’m fine" and said, "Chief, there’s something I’m not sure whether I should say."
"Hmm?"
"Can you come down from the tower?"
The beacon involved the highest secrets of the Rebel Army, something only she and "Mouse," the two most trusted subordinates, knew of, "I really can’t climb those stairs anymore."
"Oh, sorry."
With Aishi’s interjection, the murmurs echoing in his ears vanished once again.
The light disappeared before Esinvig’s eyes, and his vision returned to how it had been before.

"The merchants have found out that the Rebel Army seems to be looking for the beacon, but they don’t seem to know what the beacon represents, so they can’t pinpoint its location."
"Nothingness" had finally gotten into character.
By now, he had become like an NPC in the game dispensing quests.
"So, what exactly is the beacon?"
Song Lan played along, pushing the quest forward to the next phase, which offered a reward as high as one million watts.
"Are you serious?"
"Nothingness" seemed puzzled. He scrutinized Song Lan for a moment, and, seeing that he wasn’t feigning ignorance, replied, "It is something you once destroyed, a bridge linking the disciples with the upper world."
It was Song Lan who had destroyed this home.
He had burned the house down, collapsed the bridge, and even led to the complete disappearance of the Church from human society, erasing even the traces of its existence.
"Someone has rebuilt the bridge, and that’s why I asked you in Sector Four—aside from you and me, there must be others who have survived, or at least their energy has continued."
"Nothingness" continued, "This beacon is a bit special, I can’t connect to its origin."
He had first discovered the existence of the beacon several years ago.
Over the years, he had roamed the "outside world," continuously attempting to make phone contact with the beacon’s source, but all his attempts had failed.
"Either its hiding methods are so clever that even I can’t detect them, or its original consciousness has dissipated, leaving only the energy behind."
Energy without consciousness will continue its original actions until it dissipates completely or falls into the hands of someone else.
"Coincidentally, there are others besides the Rebel Army who are eyeing it—people who have dealt with you in the past."
"Nothingness" paused, then said, "I heard you went to the Lunar Eclipse Sect recently and spoiled their plans. Now they have come to us, looking to take what’s ours."
