Chapter 586: Chapter 586: For Victory_1
After being released from the cage, Yeying ran swiftly.
Meanwhile, the entire membership of Barrosa Group’s elite troops cooperated with this "covert" escape operation, only realizing what had happened in the square nearly a quarter of an hour after the three had left Antigon, sending pursuers with extremely poor efficiency.
Even with the help of the "transport team," it took a whole night for the three to reach the "mine."
The colossal bodies of the "transport team" carved a bloody path for them on the battlefield, allowing Lu Xiang and Song Lan to witness the hellish scenes of the towns along the way up close.
Unidentified flesh structures devoured houses, and a large number of Mutants occupied the entire city. The people who "survived" this catastrophe had also turned into twisted forms beyond description.
The Mutants had completely lost their sanity, attacking every living creature they encountered.
Under the shroud of the stench of blood, the two arrived at the territory of the Lunar Eclipse Sect, led by Yeying. Staring at the entrance completely covered by writhing flesh, they fell into deep thought.
Any sane person would not willingly put themselves in such a hellish place.
But after arriving at the "mine," Yeying gave them another important piece of news—she could sense that the Archbishop was somewhere in the "mine" at this very moment.
Elsewhere, Barrosa Group’s airship hovering over the skies of the Neutral Country was closely monitoring the movements of the three.
Intelligence personnel observed several giant insect Mutants resembling massive war machines, so powerful that they could easily obliterate walls, reducing ordinary Mutants to nothing but crushed remains before them.
However, just as they thought the Bug Swarm had finally revealed their trump card for the upcoming decisive battle, the scene at the "mine" took everyone by surprise.
The Bug Swarm’s massive war machines were recalled.
They burrowed into the earth and soon vanished without a trace on the battlefield, and it seemed that no more squads of the Bug Swarm befitting for the fight in such confined environments appeared near them.
As before, they reverted to pairs in their movements.
"Up till now, the battle is progressing as we had anticipated," reported the commander of the Third Legion, relaying information the Ashen Knight Legion had gathered from the frontlines. More accurately, Lu Xiang and Song Lan’s progress was going even better than they had imagined.
They had been hesitant about whether to use the airship’s firepower to aid the Bug Swarm troops if they were attacked, but from what they had observed, it seemed they didn’t need any support at all.
And when they came to their senses, they realized the truly eerie aspect of the entire event.
Even selecting the two most experienced legion commanders from among them, no one could guarantee they would emerge from the "mine" unscathed.
"This is the correct tactic," came the mechanical synthesized male voice from beneath the metal-black exoskeletal armor of the First Army Corp commander. He faced the strategic command center’s holographic map and spoke, "The Bug Swarm too are creations derived from the Devourer, and there’s no ensuring during a battle that they won’t be influenced by that kind of consciousness. This applies equally to you, me, and the entire legion."
The battle the previous night had already served as a warning to them.
For those with weak wills, the influence of an unidentified Consciousness Entity could cause them to instantly become irrational Mutants.
"Inside our bodies, we also carry its genes... You’ve already done enough. Now it’s my turn to end this war."
"But..."
"The Barrosa Group must not be annihilated."
The First Army Corps commander stopped all those who wanted to raise objections with a look. Just now, he suddenly realized something.
If even he were to fail in the upcoming war, it would mean that their current strength was still insufficient to contend with "God". Deploying more troops would only increase the number of casualties.
Despite their desire to end the war with this final sacrifice, as the commander of the legion, he had to think further ahead, which included the possibility of failure. Their enemy this time was not those dispersed, not yet fully evolved Devourers scattered around the world, but the origin of everything— the terrifying existence revered as the all-knowing, all-powerful "Father God" in the doctrine of the Lunar Eclipse Sect.
"When that time comes, you will need to reorganize the forces of the First Army Corp, and if necessary, seek all potential allies, including the United Government."
Until now, they had always been wary of the other side.
Because, based on their understanding of the United Government—or any Neutral Country—they knew the United Government would immediately apply Genetic Transformation Technology to their military if they got hold of it. Then, no one would be able to stop them from becoming the rulers of this world.
But compared to the extinction of the entire human group, they could only hand over this "key" to the United Government.

Meanwhile, Yeying finally posed a sharp question after accompanying Lu Xiang and Song Lan for so long, "Why do you always fight alone?"
When she asked this question, the three of them had already entered the "mine", standing on a high platform, overlooking a mutant construct below them that seemed exceedingly dangerous.
The blood pool, glowing like magma, illuminated the scene below.
This view brought many terrifying memories flooding back into Yeying’s mind. They had also been here before and witnessed the hellish sight beneath the "mine".
They only dared to stay in the upper area, living each day and night in terror and unease.
Yet, even so, the monsters below still refused to spare them. Yeying vaguely remembered that several of her friends were dragged down by those mutants emerging from the "mine" and eventually submerged in the pool of blood below.
To survive, they had to learn to fight the monsters beneath the "mine".
The familiar scenery awakened the fear buried deep in Yeying’s heart. Even though she could clearly sense the Archbishop below, she still dared not leap down to fall among those twisted mutants.
After observing for a while, she finally raised a serious question.
Lu Xiang was the leader of the Bug Swarm.
The Archbishop had mentioned before that "Father God" had prophesied the threat of the Bug Swarm to them, calling them a race that excelled at overwhelming with numbers.
Yet, apart from transportation, Lu Xiang hadn’t deployed any troops to participate in this war.
"Because, this is the strategy adopted by the Bug Swarm."
In response to Yeying’s question, Lu Xiang cleared his throat and said, "As for what the strategy is... Song Lan, you explain the details of the strategy to her."
