Chapter 587: Chapter 587: I Am the Bug Swarm_1

As Lu Xiang spoke, Yeying’s gaze shifted to Song Lan.

After spending a few days together, she had developed an almost innate sense of trust in Song Lan, who was the most learned person she had met besides the Archbishop, so much so that she was considering how she might plead with the Archbishop to let Song Lan join the Lunar Eclipse Sect after the failure of the Bug Swarm.

Yeying believed that with Song Lan’s talent, he could definitely become a pillar of the Church.

She dared to swear to "Father God"... no, it should be to Father Delari, that it was Song Lan’s exploitation and foresight she admired, and not because he knew how to make meat buns to feed her.

"Currently, the main forces of the Bug Swarm are concentrated at the border city; their main task is to rescue the trapped soldiers from the cities where the remnants of the expeditionary troops are located. Strategically, this is called multi-front warfare,"

Song Lan coughed lightly, as he had to temporarily take on the role of a strategic advisor.

"But you obviously have extra troops."

Yeying raised her doubts, as it was not long ago that the "transport squads" had swept through all the Aberrations on the road with overwhelming force. If they could join the battle, they should be able to contain the Aberration constructs at the entrance of the "minefield."

"Yes,"

Song Lan did not deny, "but the upcoming battle will be extremely dangerous, and if they were to join, casualties are likely to occur."

"Casualties?"

Yeying was even more confused, as she hadn’t expected Song Lan to give such an explanation.

Casualties were all too common on the battlefield; after "the minefield" went out of control, they lost half of their Believers overnight, and the remaining Mutant defense forces established in Antigon were being depleted at an alarming rate daily.

In her view, it was abnormal not to have casualties.

"Listen to me, Yeying."

Song Lan suddenly became serious; he realized this was a great opportunity to establish the concept of the Bug Swarm for Yeying. "The way the Bug Swarm fights is different from those troops that rely on manpower and huge sacrifices for a chance of victory. What we seek in a war is zero casualties."

The air of supremacy made Yeying shrink her head a little, even her presence seemed diminished.

To pursue zero casualties in a war?

Even the Archbishop had never made such a boastful claim. After the Believers retreated to Antigon, she could only pay respect to those who died during the great withdrawal, wishing their souls could return to "Father God’s" embrace for peace.

"This exemplifies how the leader of the Bug Swarm loves her soldiers like her children. As a leader, she does not want to see a single life lost in war, no matter what role you play in the Bug Swarm; the Queen treats everyone equally."

"But soldiers are willing to fight and sacrifice for their leader, that’s their most genuine emotion,"

Although Yeying’s voice was lower, when she thought about what she had seen and heard during the big withdrawal, she still couldn’t help but want to say a few words.

It was under the support of a strong faith that the Believers were willing to face death calmly to cover the retreat of more people.

Even she herself was touched by those who stayed behind to cover the retreat and were ultimately consumed by the Aberration constructs as they disappeared from their view.

"That’s exactly why the Queen of the Bug Swarm must respond to the wishes and expectations of each individual,"

Song Lan said, "I know you must be full of doubts now, so let me tell you the method for achieving this vision—As the leader of the Bug Swarm, she is constantly forcing herself to keep moving forward until her power becomes unmatched."

This time, it wasn’t just Yeying whose eyes widened, but also Lu Xiang’s.

She certainly didn’t remember when she had obtained unmatched power.

However, Song Lan was still continuing, "All along the way, you haven’t seen her engage in battle; do you know the reason why?"

"I..."

Before Lu Xiang could speak, he suddenly felt light as a feather. Before he could react, an invisible force pushed all three of them down the "mine shaft".

The roars of the aberrations immediately drowned out their conversation, hungry as wild beasts, with a thirsty and excited light flickering in their murky eyes.

Yeying immediately tensed her body, assuming a fighting stance.

Faced with so many distorted creatures that they almost squeezed together, she too was nervous to the point of near breathlessness.

The next moment, the aberrations charging relentlessly towards them halted their advance. Their colossal forms, under the control of some invisible force, lifted off the ground. They flailed about mid-air as their bodies, thrown upward, struggled in vain.

All roars ceased; even sounds seemed to be isolated by the spiritual energy. Silence reigned as if time had stopped in that instant.

Yeying stood dumbstruck, as the sudden turn of events left her unsure of what to do next.

"This is why she, as the leader of the Bug Swarm, cannot take action at will."

After who knows how long, in a stretch of dead silence, Yeying once again heard Song Lan’s narration, "Her psychic abilities are too powerful, such that whenever she uses them, the leaked spiritual energy would form a storm, erasing swiftly everything alive and inanimate unlucky enough to be caught in it."

And the scene that unfolded before Yeying confirmed Song Lan’s description.

She witnessed with her own eyes the ripples of residual spiritual energy, radiating outwards from the trio at the center, sweeping across the bodies of every aberration. Everything within her sight was purified by the oscillations, but what frightened Yeying more was not seeing twisted, shattered corpses; as the psychic energy spread over the aberrations, they disintegrated from within, ultimately turning into dust that dispersed in the air.

Even the dust, before it could settle on the ground, completely vanished into nothingness.

The glow from the blood pools on either side of the road extinguished, and the less than a minute’s events felt as long as several hours. When Yeying broke free from the vortex of time, she could no longer find any trace of the aberrations in her sight.

Anxiety filled her heart.

Yeying’s look at Lu Xiang was also tinged with fear.

"This is the Queen of the Bug Swarm."

At the end of this "Purification Ceremony," Song Lan revealed the identity that Lu Xiang had long concealed, "She is the strongest psychic in human history. Her presence alone represents the power of the Bug Swarm."

Yeying looked into Lu Xiang’s eyes.

Flames seemed to be burning in those black pupils, further convincing her of Lu Xiang’s identity.

The queen’s presence on the battlefield was unmistakable.

In fact, Lu Xiang’s eyes were about to shoot fire.

Because right now, she desperately wanted to find a stick to hit this Dumb Bird’s head with, as this creature had eliminated the aberrations with psychic energy and blamed her on the spot!

"I was right, wasn’t I, Your Majesty?"

Song Lan’s devout tone once again deeply moved Yeying.

"You, I..."

A rare blush appeared on Lu Xiang’s cheeks, the first time in her life she had been accused on the spot with no way to respond.

"Don’t waste any more time."

After a moment of secret chagrin, she resignedly cleared her throat and said, "Let’s advance, the Bug Swarm will march towards victory."
