Chapter 546: Chapter 546: Marionette_1
The torrential rain swept through Purple Wisteria Academy.
Although known as the hall of Psychic Ability Users, and despite teachers and students seeking shelter in buildings as soon as the unusual storm began, injuries were still inevitable and occurred in almost unfathomable ways beyond their comprehension.
Some people were pierced through by the rain, others tripped and fell while frantically seeking cover, their heads hitting sharp objects, or becoming hedgehogs impaled by glass that shattered for reasons unknown.
They quickly realized that this storm was an attack from a Psychic.
The storm likely served only as a diversion, for the true assailants were unpredictable disasters, giving them the sense that no matter where they hid, the next moment could bring unforeseen accidents. At that instant, any everyday object they could see might become the instrument of their demise.
However, the panic-stricken students soon discovered a common thread.
Most of the victims of the disasters were teachers at Purple Wisteria Academy; it was those students who were a step slower to react or couldn’t find a place to hide who, for some unknown reason, passed safely through the rain’s dangerous zones.
Could it be that the rain, or all the disasters they witnessed...
had an autonomous recognition function?
The students who calmed down first reached a seemingly absurd conclusion.
Not only could these crises cover the entire campus in a short time, but they could also precisely afflict their intended targets. Even Psychics with highly rated control abilities would find it difficult to achieve this without line of sight.
Though reason told them this was an attack by an unknown Psychic, all the details escalated their fear to new heights. Without knowing the specific reason they were targeted by the disasters, they couldn’t relax or entrust unknown entities with their safety.
The silver lining amid this misfortune was that the students soon realized the disasters didn’t seem to be lethal.
At least they didn’t immediately claim the lives of the victims.
Teachers who were riddled with holes by the rain for failing to find shelter were one by one sent to the academy’s hospital by the artificial intelligence guards. These AIs were not programmed with fear and maintained their posts without hesitation, even when enveloped by the calamity.
Then the students were surprised to discover that the disasters seemed to intentionally avoid the AI guards.
After laying the teachers in pools of blood, they seemed to deliberately leave them a glimmer of hope for survival.
Whether the Ability User’s power wasn’t strong enough, or the Psychic was intentionally sparing lives, remained a mystery.
And at this very moment, Angle Saffire made his way through the long corridor leading into Purple Wisteria Academy, arriving at a location vivid in his mind.
It was familiar to him because he had seen this place before in his dreams or hallucinations.
The campus was engulfed by the sudden downpour, and he alone walked within it, seemingly a side effect of his abilities.
As his command over luck and disasters grew stronger, he could also see his future destiny more frequently, guiding him on his path and turning his life upside down.
It wasn’t until recently, when a girl named Xinya found him in the secret passageway, that Angle finally understood why fate had guided him here.
This seeming hall of glory for Psychic Users had long been rotten to the core. Rather than a relationship between teachers and students, it would be more accurate to describe them as researchers and Little Mice, which reminded Angle of the many cases he had encountered before. In fact, such situations were all too common within the territory of the United Government.
The corporations and families had long reached a delicate consensus—if an evil deed wasn’t discovered, it didn’t exist.
They never condemned the perpetrators of the evil acts; it was always those whose negligence or stupidity led to the public exposure of such deeds, turning them into targets of vehement criticism, and this academy seemed to be a microcosm of the United Government.
The secret passage that led from inside the school to the outside was not naturally formed. In the notes left by a student named Anjing, it mentioned that they had created this emergency exit to rescue the students who were going to undergo thought correction therapy and reveal the evil deeds of the academy. It took them three full years to create this bridge that connected the inside and outside of the school.
But with the dramatic revolution approaching, they neglected one most crucial issue.
And just now, Xinya had placed the reason for Anjing and the others’ failure into his hands.
"To nullify all abilities, that is the principal’s power."
This information was tirelessly investigated by students who had inherited Anjing’s will. According to Xinya, the three of them had been sent to the school hospital and had already undergone a whole night of thought correction therapy, and she too had been a victim of this remedy.
Beyond the pain, what was more terrifying were the memory confusions caused by this treatment method. If one were to remain in this state for long, even someone with the most resilient mind would become mentally deranged, achieving the "thought correction" the academy wished to see.
Looking at the outcomes, Anjing and the first group of students who resisted Purple Wisteria Academy had met this fate.
After their thoughts were corrected, they had completely become marionettes for the academy and the corporations, still contributing to the corporations to this day.
Therefore, Angle realized he didn’t have much time left. He no longer had time to study those strange Consciousness Entities outside the school; this time, he had to take the initiative.
After receiving the note, he also finally became clear about the real enemy of his mission.
He stood in the deserted campus made empty by the torrential rain, letting the icy rain strike his body. This scene made him think of the Judgment Days documented in pre-war literature, and he also vaguely understood the significance of this ability.
This was the only means through which the students could fight for justice.
Suddenly, a fleeting figure approached him from the depths of the raging storm.
The newcomer didn’t intend to rush, and unlike the panicked crowds, calmly walked in the midst of the downpour, openly welcoming the "judgment" that was to come.
The Disaster in the rain couldn’t truly touch him, which confirmed the vital information contained in that piece of paper.
No matter what kind of ability, none could affect the principal.
For any Psychic User, this was almost an existence akin to a natural enemy.
But Angle didn’t retreat. He took a step forward, answering the call of destiny as he met the arrival.
