Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Torrential Rain_1

About a minute later, Jasmine’s communicator received a message.

Almost simultaneously with the death of the former legal advisor, a caretaker on the campus plunged from the top of the Science and Technology Building, declared dead on the scene. Before the caretaker’s arm hit the ground, it was severed by the fence in front of the building, the manner of death eerily similar to that of the previous legal advisor.

Jasmine realized something; she did not rush to the scene immediately, instead, she took out the documents stored in the hidden compartment by the advisor.

These documents recorded the work he had done after arriving at Morning Star Academy, but it was far from just "some" legal issues as he had claimed.

Isabella’s and her entourage’s long-term misdeeds were all recorded in detail.

Especially in recent years, after Lu Xiang and other early "Common People" graduates, their behavior became increasingly outrageous. It was clear that Isabella had fully inherited the "glorious tradition" of the Iris family, enforcing the principle of bloodline supremacy within the academy.

The cold files shocked Jasmine.

Their actions had long surpassed the level of school bullying. Every so often, students would inexplicably leave the school—some withdrew on their own, while others were reported to have their withdrawal procedures handled by "family" after disappearing.

The former legal advisor played the role of the "family" for these missing students, always managing to help Isabella and her cronies tidy up the aftermath promptly. For those "Common People" without much power, a sum of compensation or threats from local gangs were enough to silence them.

Whenever they encountered "troublesome" relatives, local gang members would also warmly help them "permanently" settle the troubles.

His actions undoubtedly emboldened people like Isabella and also explained the cause of his death.

The caretaker had leaped from the top of the building, determined to make the advisor pay for his actions.

This also explained the origin of the wounds on Isabella’s body, as well as the fact that she was in critical condition—not Isabella herself was in a state of blood loss, but another person who wanted to kill her.

Unexpectedly, the famous detective’s intuition proved right once again.

"Jas, Jasmine, ah—!"

A flustered girl rushed into the office and let out a piercing scream upon seeing the advisor’s corpse.

In the past, whenever they encountered any trouble at school, they would come to this office for the advisor’s consultation. But now, the trusted advisor they had all relied on lay dismembered with his arm severed, collapsed in front of the bookshelf in a grotesque pose. His blood stained the walls and floor, and until his approaching last moment, his eyes were wide open, revealing his incomprehension.

"What’s the matter?"

Jasmine glanced at the pale-faced girl at the door.

She remembered this girl was one of Isabella’s lackeys, who had escorted the latter to the school infirmary with a group of people.

"I, I just remembered something."

The girl stuttered, her voice trembling, "When we came back from the exhibition hall, Isabella was furious. She encountered a female student in the library and took out all her anger on her. I’m thinking it could have been that student playing tricks... I just went to the library, and someone told me that girl left looking abnormal, as if she was possessed!"

"Where is she now?"

"I, I don’t know, I should have..."

The speaking girl suddenly covered her, staring in disbelief at the fresh blood staining her palm. Following that, she collapsed to the ground, convulsing uncontrollably, the intense pain making it impossible for her to speak. She could only look at Jasmine with pleading eyes, gasping out, "Help, help me..."

Poisoning.

Jasmine’s Psychic Energy lightly swept over the girl, and she understood her condition instantly.

In a few seconds, the girl’s eyes lost their luster, her struggling gradually ceased, leaving only one or two unconscious spasms.

The situation was far more serious than she had imagined.

If this were the work of an Ability User, their range of power was clearly enough to cover the entire campus, and they did not even need to have seen their victims to effortlessly kill them through some means.

Cybernetic enhancements, Spiritual Energy, and physical alterations all seemed futile.

Jasmine acted immediately upon the message brought by the girl, spreading her Psychic Abilities throughout the school. The overuse of her abilities caused fine beads of sweat to appear on her forehead. After a search that lasted nearly ten minutes, she finally located the bullied classmate on the rooftop of a building.

She lay against the railing, blood pooled around her, unconscious.

There seemed to be something else "waiting" for Jasmine beside the unconscious girl.

Without hesitation, Jasmine hurried to the sensed location.

When she pushed open the security door leading to the rooftop, she finally saw the true nature of that "thing."

A pitch-black shadow.

It bore the contour of a human, and the building’s top floor had been turned into a site for some nefarious Ceremony. The floor was stained black, making Jasmine feel as if she were stepping into a stream of dark water, whose source was the storm clouds in the sky.

Torrential black rainfall.

The rain that fell on her, brought with it a chill that struck deep into her soul.

"It’s wonderful, isn’t it? This is a true reflection of her inner world," the shadow spoke of its own accord, not surprised by Jasmine’s arrival or adopting a stance of attack, but rather reveling in this tainted, icy world.

Jasmine had never seen this kind of Psychic before and couldn’t even be sure if the figure was human.

All she knew was that the moment she set foot in this abnormal world, her Psychic Abilities immediately went on high alert.

"Who sent you?"

"Me?"

Faced with Jasmine’s inquiry, the shadow pondered for a moment, then said, "Perhaps, it’s this world."

While questioning the other, she thought of many forces that were closely monitored by the United Government, but his answer overturned all her assumptions.

The shadow turned toward her, and this time, its tone became much more assertive, "I am the trial this world has set for you."

A sharp sense of crisis surged in Jasmine’s heart.

While they talked, the Spiritual Energy spreading behind the girl responded; it became a net that caught the girl’s body, and before the world around them turned completely black, it pulled her toward Jasmine.

What followed was the heavy slam of a door.

The passageway became akin to an isolated lighthouse, ultimately keeping the black waves at bay on the other side.

The shadow didn’t seem to follow, and the chill that reached the depths of her soul quickly receded.

Her abilities gently caressed the girl’s wounds.

This time, the remedy was effective as it should’ve been.

The bleeding stopped, and the torn flesh began to visibly heal.

While treating the girl, Jasmine also realized something.

The Review Meeting must have concealed something from them regarding this operation.
