However, they had no time to stop and conduct a detailed study of these monsters. They could only continue to follow Emily, sprinting forward as if their lives depended on it.

No one knew where this road led, nor did they know what further into the fog awaited them.

Soon, they lost count. Countless monsters surrounded them in the middle, turning the last stretch to the town into an insurmountable barrier, and even their way back was thoroughly blocked by the monsters. Their last shred of hope was completely drowned by despair, and the three looked helplessly at Emily.

This time, Emily opened her mouth wanting to say some encouraging words, but she quickly realized her mouth was trembling so much that she couldn’t utter a complete sentence.

Emily screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping her cries for help would penetrate the encirclement of monsters and reach the other’s ears.

The people in the encirclement clearly felt the ground shake beneath them like an earthquake. A fissure split the entire road in two, with some monsters being flung away and others plummeting into the endless abyss below.

A gust of wind bore down like a blade, slicing the monsters into pieces, and Emily could actually see human emotions on them.

Under the pressure of fear, the surviving monsters fled back underground.

The fissure continued and soon vanished from their sight, its momentum seeming as if it would split the city in half.

This was not a scene from a horror movie, but rather one you would see in a big-budget science fiction film!

In a short while, the terrifying being that had just used a single glance to cleave the earth and incidentally slaughter dozens of monsters entered their field of vision. The person was clad in a bulky hazmat suit, wearing a gas mask that covered their entire face—Emily suspected that the being might not even be human.
