Chapter 95: Keep Looking

On set, the crew bustled about, preparing for the next scene.

Aurora stood under the bright lights, her mind not entirely focused.

The script called for a tense moment—a thriller sequence—but her performance felt off. She couldn’t shake the unease that had settled over her.

This was her first time back in front of the camera after five years of dedicating her life entirely to her children.

Now, as she recited her lines, her thoughts kept drifting to Leo and Aria.

They were with Ava, safe at the park.

But still, a gnawing anxiety clung to her.

From his spot beside the director, Lucas sat watching her.

He was here to observe the progress of the production, his wheelchair in its usual place at the edge of the action.

Despite the seriousness of the scene, Lucas found himself impressed with how seamlessly Aurora had returned to acting.

Yet, he noticed her hesitation, the slight falter in her delivery.

"Cut!" the director called out.

Aurora blinked, coming out of her reverie.

"You okay?" the director asked.

Aurora forced a smile and nodded. "Yeah, just... trying to get back into the groove."

The director gave her an understanding look. "Take five."

As soon as the scene wrapped, Aurora hurried over to her phone.

No missed calls.

Still, the nagging feeling wouldn’t leave. Without thinking, she dialed Ava’s number.

At the park, Ava was still filled with worry. Her mind raced, trying to think of how she would explain to Aurora that Leo was missing.

Just then, her phone buzzed in her hand.

She looked down and froze. The screen flashed "Aurora."

Derek, standing beside her, noticed the panic on Ava’s face.

"Answer it," he urged quietly.

With trembling hands, Ava picked up the call. "H-Hello?"

"Hi, Ava, how are you doing?" Aurora’s voice sounded calm on the other end, but Ava could hear the underlying curiosity.

"I’m... fine," Ava managed to respond, though her voice wavered slightly.

Aurora, oblivious to the storm brewing, asked, "How are the kids? How’s Leo and Aria?"

Ava’s throat tightened. She didn’t know what to say. A moment passed in silence.

Aurora, thinking that Ava hadn’t heard her, repeated, "Ava? Did you hear me? How are the kids?"

Before Ava could stumble over her words, Derek reached over and grabbed the phone from her hand.

He spoke calmly but directly, "Aurora, you need to come to the park. There’s something urgent we need to tell you."

Aurora’s heart skipped a beat. "Something urgent? But I’m on set, Derek. What is it?"

Derek hesitated for a split second before he said, "It’s about Leo. He’s... he’s gone missing."

The words hit her like a punch to the gut.

Aurora froze, her mind unable to process what she had just heard.

Missing? How could Leo be missing?

She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

"Send me the park’s address," she managed to say, her voice tight.

Derek quickly responded, "Okay."

Aurora hung up the phone, her hands trembling.

She turned to the director, struggling to find the words. "I’m so sorry, but I have to go. There’s been a family emergency."

The director gave her a nod, concern crossing his face. "Go. Take care of what you need to."

Aurora rushed off set, her heart pounding in her chest.

She reached the street, frantically looking for a cab.

As she was about to flag one down, a sleek, black car pulled up beside her.

The passenger window slid down, revealing Lucas’s face.

"Get in," he said, his voice steady but laced with worry.

Gabriel was behind the wheel, ready to drive.

Without hesitation, Aurora got in the car, her hands shaking as she fumbled with her phone.

She quickly read the message Derek had sent, relaying the park’s location to Gabriel.

As they sped toward the park, Lucas glanced at Aurora, concern etched on his face.

"I heard what happened," he said quietly. "It will be fine."

Aurora could barely nod, her mind racing through every worst-case scenario.

Her heart ached, and all she could think of was her son—where was he?

When they finally arrived at the park, the car came to a halt.

Aurora jumped out, barely pausing to thank Lucas before hurrying toward the spot where she saw Ava and Derek standing.

"Aurora!" Ava called out, her voice shaky.

Aurora rushed over, her heart pounding. "What’s wrong? Is everything alright?"

Ava’s eyes filled with guilt as she spoke, "Nothing’s alright... Leo—he’s gone missing. He went to the slide, and we... we couldn’t find him. We searched everywhere."

Aurora felt something deep inside her tremble.

She had feared something was wrong, but hearing the words still knocked the breath out of her.

She took a moment, forcing herself to stay calm, before asking, "Have you called the cops?"

Derek nodded. "Yes, but... they haven’t found him yet."

"Okay," Aurora said quickly. "Let’s keep looking. We need to search around the park again. He can’t have gone far."

Without waiting for a response, Aurora began moving toward the playground, her eyes scanning every corner.

She was determined to find her son, no matter what.

Derek followed her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Aurora," he said softly, "we’ve already searched this place. Leo’s nowhere to be found."

Aurora shook her head, refusing to accept it. "He has to be here. He has to."

She broke free from Derek’s gentle grip and kept searching, calling Leo’s name.

Aurora moved with a frantic energy, her eyes darting over every part of the playground as if Leo might appear if she just looked hard enough.

She called his name again, her voice catching with every cry. "Leo! Leo, where are you?"

Derek stood back for a moment, watching her. His heart ached seeing her like this, but he knew they had exhausted every corner of the park.

He caught up to her again, this time more insistent. "Aurora, listen to me. We’ve looked everywhere. The cops are on it, and they’re widening the search. But right now, there’s nothing more we can do here."
