Chapter 75: Pre-delivery Rituals

Lucas remained steady, his gaze unwavering as he watched Aurora.

"Why?" His voice was calm but firm. "Is something bothering you? Is it about me? Did I do something that made you change your mind?"

Aurora said nothing, her eyes still fixed on the floor.

Lucas waited, reading the silence between them. "Alright," he said, his tone steady but gentle. "If you don’t want to talk about it now, we can talk later. Whenever you’re ready."

He tried to keep his voice calm, but inside, questions nagged at him. Was this his fault? Had his past mistakes pushed her away? Maybe she didn’t want anything to do with him or their pups.

Aurora must have sensed his thoughts because she straightened, letting out a breath.

"It’s not that," she said firmly. "We should talk about it now."

Lucas nodded, his attention fully on her.

"As you know," Aurora began, her voice clear, "the delivery date is getting closer."

"Yeah," Lucas replied.

"I’m anxious," she admitted.

Lucas’s thoughts flashed to their recent discussion with Dr. Evans. They had decided on a natural childbirth. Was she second-guessing it?

"It’s okay," he said quickly, reaching for her hand. "If you’re nervous about the delivery, we can switch to a C-section. Whatever makes you comfortable."

Aurora shook her head. "No, it’s not that."

Lucas furrowed his brow. "Then what is it?"

"It’s about the pre-delivery rituals my pack performs," Aurora said, her tone gaining strength.

Lucas leaned forward, intrigued. "Rituals?"

"It’s part of the tradition," she explained. "The mother goes back to her pack before the pups are born to complete the ceremony."

Lucas nodded slowly. "Alright, so we go to your pack. I’ll come with you."

Aurora’s grip tightened on his hand. "It’s not that simple."

"Why not? I’ll go with you, whenever you’re ready."

Aurora met his eyes, her voice lowering. "If I go back, my father might try to kill me."

Lucas’s eyes widened. "What? Why would he—"

"My father despises the Rossi family," Aurora said bluntly. "The Grey and Rossi families have always hated each other. If he finds out I’m pregnant with your pups again... he might kill us all."

Lucas fell silent, the weight of her words sinking in. He hadn’t realized how deep the feud between their families ran. The idea of Aurora facing danger because of their bond hit him hard.

But Lucas wasn’t one to back down. He offered her a small, reassuring smile. "It’s okay. I’ll still go with you. And maybe I’ll get to see your mother while we’re there."

Aurora couldn’t help the smile that crept onto her face. His steady presence, his refusal to shy away from the danger, lightened the tension she’d been carrying.

Lucas squeezed her hand. "Is that why you’ve been feeling like this?" he asked. "Is that why you don’t want the pups?"

Aurora nodded slowly, the vulnerability still in her eyes.

Lucas leaned closer, his voice resolute. "Aurora, we’ll get through this. I’ve been thinking about taking time off work. We still need to plan the nursery, pick names, do all the things parents do before the babies arrive. And I want to be there for you, every step of the way."

Aurora’s smile grew, her heart lighter. Lucas had changed. He was more present, more dedicated. She could feel it.

Leaning in, Lucas kissed her forehead. "Let’s get you to bed," he said softly. "We’ll figure the rest out together."

Aurora nodded, feeling at peace for the first time in a while.

---

Ava drove them to the Grey Pack, the tension evident as they neared the imposing gates.

She had insisted on accompanying Aurora, ready to assist her if necessary.

When the car rolled to a stop, the guards quickly marched out, one of them approaching the driver’s side.

Ava rolled down the window, revealing her face. The guard nodded, recognizing her, and was about to wave them through when his eyes caught sight of Lucas in the back seat with Aurora.

His expression shifted.

Silently, the guard made a call, and soon, several others surrounded the car.

Aurora felt her pulse quicken, but Lucas gently squeezed her hand, his voice calm as he leaned toward her.

"Stay calm," he whispered.

Aurora took a steadying breath before speaking to the guard. "Lucas is with me. You should call my father to confirm our entry."

The guard hesitated before nodding and placing a call.

A moment later, after a curt conversation, the guards backed away, and the gate creaked open.

Ava felt a chill creep down her spine as she drove through, her gaze fixed on the looming mansion ahead.

Something about the place felt dark, unwelcoming.

She stopped the car in front of the entrance, her hands gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly.

"You two go ahead," Ava said with a small smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’ll stay in the car."

Aurora noticed her discomfort but nodded. "Alright. We won’t be long."

She stepped out with Lucas by her side, her hand slipping around his arm for support as they approached the mansion.

The head maid was already waiting, guiding them inside and through the corridors until they reached the grand dining hall.

At the head of the table sat Alpha Grey, his presence suffocating the room with authority.

On either side of him were his wives: Victoria, Aurora’s mother, and Elizabeth, the stepmother.

Victoria’s eyes lit up when she saw Aurora, her body instinctively moving to rise, but she caught herself.

"Aurora," Victoria breathed, her voice full of relief.

She quickly crossed the room and enveloped her daughter in a warm embrace.

Aurora returned the hug briefly, grateful for the familiar comfort.

Victoria’s gaze then shifted to Lucas, standing silently beside her daughter. Her body tensed slightly, and she quickly looked back at her husband, who was glaring daggers at Lucas.

Alpha Grey’s dark eyes burned with fury as he surveyed the scene.

His grip on the armrests of his chair tightened, but he said nothing as Victoria, now visibly nervous, stepped back from Aurora and resumed her seat.

Lucas, ever composed, bowed his head in respect. "Alpha Grey," he greeted, his voice steady.

Alpha Grey scoffed, leaning back in his chair. "What brings a Rossi to my pack?" His voice dripped with disdain.
