Chapter 76: Bewitched

Lucas met Alpha Grey’s gaze without flinching. "I’ve come with my wife, Aurora, for the pre-delivery ritual."

The room fell silent.

Alpha Grey’s laugh started low, then grew louder, a sharp, mocking sound that echoed off the stone walls.

"Pre-delivery ritual?" he repeated, as if the words were a joke. "I thought you two were divorced."

Aurora’s hand instinctively went to her belly, a protective gesture that drew Alpha Grey’s attention.

His laughter died instantly, replaced by a deadly calm as he focused on her.

"We’re not divorced," Aurora said, her voice firm despite the fear that prickled at the back of her mind. "And I’m carrying Lucas’s pups."

Victoria gasped, her eyes wide as she finally noticed the subtle swell beneath Aurora’s dress.

"Again?" she blurted out, the shock clear in her voice.

Across the table, Elizabeth, who had remained silent through it all, sipped her wine with a slight smirk, as though she enjoyed watching the chaos unfold.

Lucas stepped forward, his posture confident. "Aurora is my wife, and we’re expecting our pups. I’m here with her this time, fully supporting her through everything."

Alpha Grey’s face twisted with rage. In an instant, he pulled out a gun from his belt, standing up so abruptly his chair clattered to the floor.

The room froze.

Aurora’s heart raced, but Lucas didn’t hesitate.

He moved in front of her, shielding her with his body.

"Grey, stop!" Victoria’s voice trembled as she shot up from her seat, her hands raised in a plea. "Please, just calm down."

But Alpha Grey was beyond reason. His gaze never left Lucas as he took slow, deliberate steps toward them, the gun still aimed.

"You fool," he spat at Aurora. "I thought you’d finally come to your senses. But now I see this man has bewitched you."

"I haven’t bewitched her," Lucas said, his voice calm but commanding.

Alpha Grey’s glare intensified. "Shut up and move aside. I should’ve eliminated her and those cursed pups the moment I knew."

Aurora trembled behind Lucas, her nails digging into his arm as she clung to him for strength.

She couldn’t believe the words coming out of her father’s mouth, yet they didn’t surprise her. Not really.

Victoria, desperate now, stepped forward. "Grey, please. Let’s talk about this. They came here peacefully."

"No!" Alpha Grey roared, turning his rage on his wife. "This is your fault. If you had raised our daughter properly, none of this would be happening."

Victoria recoiled as though she’d been slapped, but she didn’t back down. "She’s our daughter, Grey. And she’s pregnant. She needs our support."

Alpha Grey sneered. "Support? For this? For him?" He gestured violently toward Lucas with the gun. "I will not let this filth stain our bloodline any further."

Lucas remained unshaken, his voice steady as ever. "Aurora’s not alone in this. I’ll protect her and our pups, no matter what."

Aurora, though still terrified, drew on Lucas’s strength.

She stepped out from behind him, her eyes locking onto her father’s.

"I made my choice, Father," she said, her voice fierce despite the situation. "Lucas is my mate, and we’re having these pups. Whether you accept it or not, we’re family."

For a moment, Alpha Grey’s eyes flickered, as though he hadn’t expected such defiance from her.

But the fury quickly returned, and he raised the gun again, his finger on the trigger.

Victoria, on the verge of panic, called out again. "Grey, stop! If you don’t—"

Before she could finish, Lucas took a step forward, positioning himself directly between Aurora and the gun. "You’ll have to go through me first."

Alpha Grey’s grip on the gun remained firm, and the cold click of the trigger echoed in the room.

Aurora’s breath caught, her heart stopping for a split second as the gun fired.

But in that moment, Victoria leapt forward, kicking at the weapon with all her strength.

The bullet whizzed past Lucas, striking the wall behind him with a sharp thud.

Aurora gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.

Lucas, unfazed, turned to ensure she was unharmed.

Meanwhile, Alpha Grey snarled in frustration, glaring at his wife.

"What are you doing, woman?" Alpha Grey spat, his voice thick with rage. "Do you want to die too?"

Victoria didn’t back down. "Enough of this, Grey! You’re out of your mind!"

She stepped between Alpha Grey and Lucas, her body shaking but her voice unwavering. "They are your daughter and her husband. Have you forgotten what family means?"

Alpha Grey’s face twisted with fury. "Family? This man is no family of mine!"

Elizabeth, who had been watching with an amused smirk, finally spoke. "Oh, Victoria, you’ve always been too soft. Let Grey handle this."

Aurora saw her chance as the argument heated up.

While Alpha Grey and Victoria clashed, and Elizabeth stirred the pot with her cruel remarks, Aurora tugged on Lucas’s arm, whispering, "Come with me."

She quietly led Lucas out of the room, glancing back to ensure they weren’t being followed.

The argument raged on behind them, loud and heated enough to drown out the soft click of the door closing as they slipped away.

Aurora guided Lucas down a dim corridor, her steps hurried and uneven.

As they entered a small, secluded room, Aurora swiftly locked the door behind them.

She pressed her back against it, finally letting out the breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.

The room was quiet, a stark contrast to the chaos they had just escaped.

"Did he hurt you?" Aurora asked, her voice strained with concern as she looked Lucas over.

"No," Lucas replied gently, stepping closer to her. "I’m fine, Aurora. Don’t worry."

Aurora’s shoulders sagged with exhaustion.

"We need to leave," she said, her voice firm though her hands trembled. "We can’t stay here any longer."

Lucas’s brow furrowed. "But what about the rituals? If we don’t perform them, there will be consequences. The witches could come for our pups—"

"I don’t care about the rituals!" Aurora snapped, running her hands through her hair. "We’ll protect our pups ourselves if it comes to that. I’m not staying here any longer."

Lucas shook his head. "It’s too dangerous to ignore the rituals, Aurora. You know what’s at stake."

She let out a frustrated sigh, collapsing onto the bed. "I just don’t know what to do anymore, Lucas," she whispered, her voice heavy with weariness.

Lucas sat beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "We’ll figure this out together. We always do."

Aurora closed her eyes, letting the exhaustion take over, but her sleep was restless.

The weight of the situation gnawed at her, and even in sleep, she couldn’t escape the overwhelming sense of danger surrounding them.

---

When Aurora’s eyes snapped open again, sunlight was streaming through the window.

She blinked, disoriented, before realizing Lucas was no longer in the room.

Panic surged through her chest.

"Lucas?" she called, her voice tight as she rushed out of bed.

She searched the room, finding no sign of him. Her mind raced with worst-case scenarios, her father’s violent outburst still fresh in her memory.

Hastily, she threw on her shoes and bolted out the door, moving quickly down the hallway.

She passed a maid dusting a cabinet and stopped abruptly.

"Have you seen Lucas?" Aurora asked, her voice breathless.

The maid nodded. "He’s outside, at the other side of the house, Miss."

Aurora’s heart pounded as she made her way outside, her feet barely touching the ground as she hurried around the mansion.

The sound of laughter—loud, carefree—stopped her in her tracks.

She followed the sound until she reached the back of the estate.

There, she froze.

Lucas was standing beside Alpha Grey, both of them holding golf clubs, grinning at each other like old friends.

Alpha Grey swung his club, hitting the ball with surprising ease, and Lucas clapped him on the shoulder, laughing at something her father said.

Aurora’s mouth fell open.

What is happening?

Lucas, sensing her presence, turned around and smiled.

"Here she is!" he called, as though he had been waiting for her all along.

Alpha Grey turned as well, and to Aurora’s shock, he was smiling too.

"Morning, Aurora," Alpha Grey said, his voice unusually light.

The warmth in his tone was jarring, completely unlike the rage-fueled Alpha from last night.

Aurora’s heart raced, confusion swirling in her mind. She had expected to find chaos or violence—anything but this strange scene of unity.
