Chapter 70: Strong Bond

Aurora stirred as the sunlight crept through the window, warming her face.

She shifted, the brightness nudging her awake.

As the light suddenly vanished, she assumed someone had drawn the curtains.

"Ava," she muttered, eyes still closed, "prepare the car. I’m going out."

A deep voice echoed in the room. "Going where?"

Her eyes snapped open to find Lucas’s blue eyes staring back at her.

She closed them again, rubbing her forehead as if trying to reset her mind.

When she opened them, his eyes were still there.

"Lucas?" she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

He smiled slightly. "Yes, it’s me."

Lucas moved away from the bed, and Aurora’s body instinctively shifted.

But the moment she stirred, she felt the soft brush of the blanket against her bare skin.

Her heart skipped—she was naked.

Her fingers tightened around the blanket as the memories of last night rushed back.

Her cheeks flushed, recalling every tender moment between them, the way he held her, his words of love.

She looked over at him, standing by the mirror, adjusting his tie, already fully dressed.

Aurora blushed harder, remembering the way his fingers had grazed her skin, how he had whispered those affectionate words.

She felt her face grow warm as the intimate memories filled her mind.

But then, reality struck her—Ava had scheduled something important for today.

Without another thought, she hurried to the bathroom.

Her reflection in the mirror caught her attention, particularly the bite mark on her neck, now feeling even more significant.

After a quick bath, she wrapped herself in a towel, planning to ask for clothes.

But as she opened the door, Lucas was standing there, a fresh set of clothes in hand.

"Here," he said, offering her a gown, along with a bra and panties.

Aurora accepted them, quickly shutting the door behind her.

She studied the clothes. The gown was elegant and flowing, the bra and panties almost identical to what she’d worn last night.

She glanced at them, a faint smile creeping across her face as she wondered if Lucas had noticed and purposely chosen something similar.

Once dressed, she stepped out, feeling the soft fabric glide against her skin.

Lucas was still in the room, this time holding a pair of short high heels—less than two inches.

He offered them to her with a grin.

"You love heels, but maybe we can go a bit lower this time, don’t you think?"

Aurora raised a brow. "I don’t think so. I’m perfectly fine with my usual ones. These will just make me look short."

Lucas chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Short heels, please. I want to be able to kiss you without a ladder. And trust me, you’ll look just as beautiful. Plus, I get to admire those gorgeous legs without worrying about you wobbling."

Aurora crossed her arms, amused by his persistence. "You’re just trying to keep me from looking fabulous."

He smirked. "Fabulous? You’re already flawless."

Still holding the heels, Lucas patted the bed beside him. "Come on, beautiful. Wear these for me."

Aurora couldn’t help but smile at his playfulness. "You really think I’m going to fall for that?"

Lucas, ever the tease, picked up one of the heels and pretended to put it on his own foot. "I’ll show you how comfortable they are."

Aurora laughed, shaking her head. "Lucas, stop! You’re ridiculous."

He grinned, unfazed. "Hey, I’m serious. I’ll wear them if you do."

Rolling her eyes with a playful grin, she gave in. "Fine, but only because I love you."

She slipped her foot into one of the heels, feeling its snug fit. Lucas knelt beside her, gently holding her ankle to help her buckle it. His touch sent a shiver up her spine, and she watched, captivated, as he secured the strap.

"There," he said, looking up at her with admiration. "Perfect."

"Thanks," she replied, feeling a mix of warmth and excitement.

Lucas took a step closer, a soft smile on his face. "And thanks for everything you did with the evidence. It really made a difference."

Aurora felt her heart swell with pride. "I just did what I had to do."

He nodded, the warmth in his gaze reassuring. "Still, it helped. I’m glad you’re by my side."

She smiled softly, touched by his sincerity. "I’d do it all over again for you, Lucas."

He leaned in closer, his gaze intense. "You mean a lot to me, you know that?"

Aurora felt her cheeks warm again, this time from a mix of emotions. "You mean a lot to me, too."

Lucas smiled, pulling her into a gentle kiss. Aurora melted against him, feeling safe and cherished.

"Now that’s more like it," he said, stepping back to admire her. "Just a little more height, and you look absolutely amazing."

"Okay, fine," she replied playfully, twirling slightly to show off the heels. "But I still feel like I could easily trip in these."

"Don’t worry," Lucas said, taking her hand. "I’ll catch you if you do."

With a smile, Aurora squeezed his hand and they approached the door.

Lucas reached for the doorknob and opened it for her.

Just as the door swung open, they were met with a surprise.

Julia stood there, poised to knock, her hand raised mid-motion.

She blinked in surprise as the door opened, her expression shifting from confusion to a smirk when her gaze landed on Aurora.

"Well, well, if it isn’t my favorite little rabbit," Julia drawled, tilting her head slightly, her tone dripping with mock sweetness.

But her smirk faltered as her eyes flicked to Lucas, who stood close behind Aurora.

For a moment, she seemed to tremble, caught off guard.

In her mind, questions raced.

Lucas? The one who entered Ben’s room? But how? He was drugged, wasn’t he?

Julia noticed the change of their clothes, which indicated they had been together intimately.

This realization made her uncomfortable, and for a moment, anger flashed across her face.

"Oh, you’re here, Julia," Lucas said, trying to sound relaxed but betraying a hint of nervousness.

Aurora stepped forward, her annoyance evident. "I’ll be leaving first," she stated, clearly displeased at the unexpected encounter.

As Aurora moved past Julia, Lucas watched her go, a frown knitting his brows.

He could sense Aurora’s irritation, particularly at Julia’s presence.

But as Aurora walked further away, a sly smirk played on her lips, one that Julia failed to catch in her moment of surprise.

What was Aurora up to?

Once Aurora was out of earshot, a rush of satisfaction surged through her.

Julia might have tampered with her drink in an attempt to split her and Lucas, but here she was, firmly with him.

The thought of Julia’s sabotage only bolstered Aurora’s confidence. She had won Lucas’s heart, and their bond felt stronger than ever.
