Chapter 69: Security Hub
"How did you—" Julia stammered, scrambling to sit up, the blanket hastily pulled up to cover her chest.
She glared at Ben, her voice sharp and accusing. "How did you get here?!"
Ben raised an eyebrow, his voice calm but teasing. "What do you mean? I should be asking you how you got here."
He stood up, letting the blanket slip from his waist.
Julia’s eyes widened in shock as she caught a glimpse of his bare length, and she immediately let out a scream.
She shut her eyes and blindly threw the cover at him, her voice frantic.
"Cover yourself up! Immediately!"
Ben shrugged, unaffected by her reaction. "Relax," he said casually. "You’re over-exaggerating."
Her eyes stayed shut, her hand still outstretched, waiting for him to take the cover.
With a roll of his eyes, Ben picked up the blanket and draped it over himself.
"You know," he continued, his voice taking on a mocking edge, "I remember when you were still in college, working as a pole dancer. Back then, you’d kneel at my feet and—"
"Shut up!" Julia’s eyes flew open, fury blazing in them.
Before she could react, Ben was in front of her, gripping her neck with one strong hand.
His voice dropped dangerously low. "Don’t you ever yell at me again," he said, his face inches from hers.
Julia’s breath caught in her throat, her heart racing in fear.
She quickly nodded, her confidence dissolving under his iron grip.
Satisfied, Ben let her go, watching as she fell back onto the bed, gasping.
He turned and walked toward the bathroom, the sound of his steps heavy as his anger still simmered.
Julia sat there, furious, her pulse pounding in her ears.
She rose quickly, her movements stiff as she made her way to the bedside lamp.
Her hand trembled slightly as she ripped the small camera hidden on it and threw it across the room with a frustrated yell.
Then, Julia hurriedly gathered her scattered clothes from the floor, her fingers trembling as she slipped into her underwear and quickly tugged on her dress.
Her mind raced, but her movements were swift, fastening buttons and adjusting straps with urgency.
Once fully dressed, she didn’t spare a glance back at Ben.
Instead, she stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
She flung open the door of the adjacent room, where the men she’d hired were stationed.
The hotel room had been transformed into a makeshift security hub.
Large monitors lined the walls, displaying various feeds from the hotel’s security cameras.
The men, rough-looking and burly, sat casually in front of the screens, their attention divided between the footage and their conversation.
When Julia entered, they almost burst into laughter.
Her face flushed with anger as she realized what they had likely seen.
She clenched her fists, her mind flashing back to her encounter with Ben.
Of course, they’d seen everything.
She gritted her teeth, reminding herself that she’d had far worse experiences during her college years.
This was nothing compared to that.
She straightened her back and shot the men a withering glare.
Their smirks faded, and they quickly sat up, their amusement subdued by her obvious anger.
"What happened?" she demanded, her voice cold. "What did you do wrong?" She paused, her eyes narrowing. "You remember what I said before I hired you. No success, no pay."
One of the men, taller and more intimidating than the rest, stood up.
His broad shoulders towered over her as he stepped closer. "We did our job right," he said slowly, his voice dripping with menace.
Julia’s heart skipped a beat, and she involuntarily took a step back.
His presence was overwhelming, and she could feel the agreement of the other men without even looking.
But she quickly crossed her arms, forcing herself to stand her ground.
"Then explain to me," she said, her voice slightly wavering but still firm, "why Ben ended up with me instead of Aurora."
The leader glanced back at his men, who nodded in agreement with him. "We put Aurora in room 203 - Ben’s room, just like you asked. Locked her in."
He frowned. "But somehow, another man got in there, and Ben ended up going to room 204—Lucas’s room." His eyes flicked toward her. "The two men went to the wrong rooms."
Julia slapped her forehead in frustration, her anger bubbling over.
"Unbelievable!" she muttered, her plan falling apart piece by piece.
But then an idea sparked in her mind.
She wasn’t completely out of options.
Aurora was still in that room 203, likely with another man.
If Julia couldn’t get Lucas to fall into her trap, she could still destroy Aurora’s reputation with the footage.
"Play the footage from Aurora’s room," Julia demanded, a smirk tugging at her lips.
The men, clearly uncomfortable with her request, exchanged uneasy glances but complied.
One of them tapped a few buttons on the remote, and the screen flickered to life, displaying the live feed from room 203.
In her mind, Julia silently gloated.
"Fate is against you, Aurora. I’ll still ruin you, no matter what."
The footage started, showing Aurora backing away from the door as it opened.
A shadowy figure entered the room, but the dim lighting made it impossible to see his face.
As Aurora moved toward the bed lamp to strike it against the figure, the camera hidden on the lamp fell to the floor, its screen turning to static as it shattered.
"Aish!" Julia screamed, her face contorting in rage.
Every last piece of her plan was crumbling before her eyes.
No Lucas!
No damning footage of Aurora!
She grit her teeth, her fury boiling over.
Without another word, she stormed out of the room.
"Hey! Where are you going?" one of the men called after her. "You haven’t paid us!"
Julia ignored them, her anger propelling her forward. She marched down the hall, her destination clear in her mind.
Room 203.
She clenched her fists, her footsteps quick and heavy.
"I have to find out who Aurora slept with. I’ll expose her to Lucas. I’ll make sure she’s ruined."
