Chapter 50: CCTV Feed
Sophia wiped her tears.
She steadied herself in the restroom as she recalled why she had lied to Aurora, why she had pretended that Lucas didn’t care, and why she had painted Hades in a good light.
The memory played out vividly in her mind, starting from the night the accident occurred.
Lucas had stayed in Aurora’s ward the entire night, refusing to leave her side for even a second.
He sat there, holding Aurora’s hand, whispering softly to her, even though she was unconscious. His devotion was undeniable.
Meanwhile, Hades had waited in the hallway, growing more agitated by the hour.
When Sophia had passed through the waiting area to leave, she saw Hades pacing, his frustration evident.
"How long is he going to stay in there with her?" he had grumbled under his breath, but Sophia didn’t engage.
She had left without a word, heading back to Aurora’s mansion.
At the mansion, Sophia had immediately started preparing the overnight oats.
She wanted everything to be perfect for Aurora’s recovery.
She soaked the rolled oats in a mixture of almond milk and honey, then set the containers aside.
The familiar rhythm of cooking soothed her as she diligently worked through each step, planning to add fruits and nuts the next morning.
Once the oats were prepped, Sophia had taken a long, hot shower to wash away the day’s stress.
Dressed in her pajamas, she had laid down on her bed, ready to finally sleep.
But the calm didn’t last long.
She had felt something—a presence. A subtle but undeniable sensation that she wasn’t alone.
Sophia had slipped out of bed, her heart beating faster.
She crept to the living room, her bare feet silent against the floor.
And there, she saw him. Hades. Sitting casually on the couch, a cigarette in his hand.
Sophia’s heart had jumped.
How did he get in? she had thought, her pulse racing.
Hades had never smoked during their relationship, and now there he was, inhaling the toxic smoke with a dangerous edge in his eyes.
Sophia crossed her arms under her chest, trying to hide the rising fear. "Hades, what are you doing?" Her voice had been firm, but the unease lingered.
He had glanced at her, barely acknowledging her presence as he took another drag of the cigarette.
The smoke curled lazily around him, filling the air with its pungent scent. Sophia had stepped closer, the smell making her wrinkle her nose.
"You need to stop this," she had said sharply. "Aurora’s pregnant. Do you know how bad this smell is for her? It’s unhealthy for her, and she could be back here soon."
Hades had stared at her for a moment before flicking the cigarette away, the embers dying on the floor.
He stood up slowly, his movements deliberate, and Sophia had suddenly felt the air shift.
He looked more dangerous than she had ever seen him.
Her confidence wavered as Hades took a step toward her.
Instinctively, she had stepped back.
But with every step he took, she retreated, her back finally hitting the wall.
She was trapped.
"Hades..." she had stammered, trying to summon courage. "What are you doing?"
His eyes darkened as he approached her, his presence overwhelming.
He reached out, brushing his fingers against her cheek, and the coldness of his touch sent a shiver down her spine.
"I’m doing what I’ve always done, Sophia," Hades had said quietly, his voice laced with a sinister calm. "Manipulating you."
Sophia’s heart pounded in her chest, a surge of anger rising within her.
How dare he—how dare Hades think he could just barge in here and control her like this?
She opened her mouth to yell, to resist him, but the moment she tried, Hades’s alpha power surged through the room like an invisible force, crushing her will.
Her wolf whimpered inside, knowing full well what would happen if she didn’t submit.
The alpha power could suffocate her wolf’s spirit, could even kill it if she resisted too strongly.
This was the first time Hades had ever used such power against her.
She had never known him capable of this.
"Do what I say, Sophia," he commanded, his voice firm and cold.
Against her will, she nodded, her body obeying the command even as her mind screamed in rebellion.
Her legs buckled beneath her, and she collapsed to the ground, gasping as though the very air had been stolen from her lungs.
She coughed, clutching her throat, trying desperately to breathe.
Hades stepped back, watching her with cruel indifference as she struggled.
Once she managed to pull in a shallow breath, he spoke again.
"I’ll make sure Lucas won’t have a way to enter Aurora’s ward anymore." Hades’s words were dark, sharp. "Your job is to make sure Aurora believes Lucas didn’t blink an eye over her accident. Not a single tear."
Sophia, still on the floor, managed to lift her head, her eyes blazing despite her weakness. "But that’s a lie!" she rasped. "Lucas was worried about her. He cried—in front of both of us. You know that."
Hades scoffed, clearly unbothered. "I don’t care," he said flatly, his eyes narrowing. "You will do as I say."
Sophia furrowed her brows, disbelief and disgust coloring her features. "You’re telling me to lie to Aurora?"
"Yes." His smirk deepened, dark and calculating. "That way, I can win her heart. And I’ll do it right in front of that dimwit named Lucas."
Sophia felt her chest tighten with fear.
Struggling to catch her breath, she pushed herself to a seated position, her back still pressed against the wall.
"No," Sophia whispered. "I won’t do it. I won’t betray my best friend like that. I’m not a gold digger who will sell out the people I care about."
Hades laughed—a deep, cold sound that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
His smile was cruel as he watched her from his towering height.
"Then you can forget about your mother."
Sophia froze, her blood turning to ice.
She stared up at him in stunned silence, the words barely escaping her lips. "What? What do you mean?"
Hades’s smirk widened. "Since you were foolish enough to tell me about her illness, I’ll make sure she’s a part of this. It’s simple, really. Do what I say, or your mother will suffer the consequences."
Her heart dropped.
She watched in horror as Hades grabbed the remote control, pointing it toward the TV in the living room.
With a click, the screen flickered to life.
Sophia’s breath hitched as she saw her mother’s ward on the screen.
A live CCTV feed.
Her mother lay unconscious in her hospital bed, just as she had been for weeks, unaware of the rugged men staying both inside and outside the ward.
Sophia gasped, tears filling her eyes.
"No..." she whispered, her voice shaking.
She scrambled to her feet, rushing toward Hades. "Please, don’t involve my mother in this. She has nothing to do with your sick games!"
Hades didn’t flinch, his expression remaining cold.
He loomed over her, his shadow casting a dark pall over the room.
"Do what I told you," he said, his voice dropping dangerously low. "Or I’ll make sure she never wakes up again."
Sophia’s world spun.
She was trapped, suffocating under the sheer cruelty of the situation.
There was no way out.
Trembling, she could only nod, her body betraying her once again.
And now, as she stood in the restroom, gripping the sink for support, the memory of that night played over and over in her mind.
She had no choice.
Her hands shook as more tears slipped down her cheeks, her reflection in the mirror blurring.
She had promised herself she wouldn’t deceive Aurora, but now... she didn’t have a choice. Hades had made sure of that.
