Chapter 51: Aurora Found Out

Back in the hospital ward, Aurora reached for her phone and dialled Ava’s number.

The line rang twice before Ava picked up, her voice immediately laced with concern.

"Aurora? Oh my goodness, I just saw the news about your accident! Are you alright?"

Aurora smiled at the genuine worry in her assistant’s voice. "I’m fine, Ava. Really. Nothing too serious."

Ava let out a relieved sigh. "I’m so glad to hear that. You gave me a scare. Where are you right now?"

"I’m still at the hospital, but they’re letting me go soon," Aurora replied. "But enough about me. Where are you? I haven’t seen you around."

There was a pause on the line before Ava answered, her tone softer. "I’m with my dad. His nurse called me last night and said I needed to come to the hospital right away. He wasn’t doing too well."

Aurora’s heart sank at the news. "Oh no, Ava. I’m so sorry to hear that. How’s he doing now?"

"He’s stable for now, but it’s touch and go. I couldn’t leave him," Ava said, her voice tight with emotion.

"Of course, don’t worry about work," Aurora said gently. "Take all the time you need. Your father is what’s important."

"Thank you, Aurora," Ava said, gratitude evident in her voice. "I really appreciate it."

They exchanged a few more words before the call ended, and Aurora set her phone down, staring absently at the ceiling, reflecting on how much everyone around her seemed to be going through.

Just as she let her thoughts drift, a soft buzzing sound broke her thoughts.

The vibration continued.

It wasn’t coming from her phone.

Aurora looked beside her and realized it was Sophia’s phone, left on the bed when she went to the restroom.

She glanced toward the door, thinking Sophia might have forgotten it.

The vibration persisted, and she tried to push it out of her mind, not wanting to invade her friend’s privacy.

But it kept buzzing.

Finally, her curiosity got the better of her.

She glanced at the screen—an incoming call from Hades. Her brother.

Without thinking much of it, she reached for the phone, intending to answer.

Perhaps it was something important, something Hades needed to know right away.

But as she picked it up, the call abruptly ended.

Hades must have hung up.

Aurora shrugged, about to set it back down when the phone vibrated again—a new message from Hades flashed on the screen.

Her brow furrowed.

She hesitated, but then thought, I’m just helping her out.

She tapped the message, intending to reply on Sophia’s behalf.

The message opened.

Hades: Did you do it?

Aurora blinked. Do what?

Her curiosity piqued, she scrolled up through the conversation.

What had they been talking about?

Surely, it was something innocent.

The earlier messages seemed normal.

Small talk—Hi, how are you?—nothing out of the ordinary.

But as she scrolled, her fingers accidentally slipped, and the screen flew back, revealing a conversation from over a year ago.

Aurora froze, her eyes widening as she stared at the messages.

Flirty texts. Phrases like Love you, and Can’t wait for our next date jumped out at her.

Her heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat.

No... that can’t be right.

She moved back from the phone, her hand shaking slightly as she put it back in its original place on the bed, exactly how it had been.

But she had seen what she’d seen.

Aurora’s mind raced as she sat there, her hands now resting limply in her lap.

Sophia and Hades?

The realization slowly sank in. They had been dating. For how long?

She tried to calm herself, telling herself that maybe it was all in the past, maybe it wasn’t what it seemed.

But it was hard to deny what was right in front of her.

Memories rushed back—flashes of moments that suddenly made sense.

That one time Sophia hadn’t come home, claiming she was handling some business.

And then, the next morning, she’d returned to the mansion wearing different clothes. Aurora had thought nothing of it at the time, brushing it off as something normal.

A small smile tugged at her lips as she recalled how, during their childhood,

Sophia had admired Hades’s hunting skills, always watching him with awe as he led the pup’s team.

She’d been close to him, always playful with him.

Now... now it all made sense.

But something wasn’t sitting right with Aurora.

If they had been dating for all this time, why had Sophia never told her?

Why keep it a secret? Why hide their relationship from her?

Aurora frowned, the questions swirling in her mind. She wanted to feel happy for them—really, she did. But there was an undeniable sense of unease that she couldn’t shake. Something felt off.

"Why didn’t she tell me?" Aurora muttered under her breath.

---

After calming herself down, Sophia returned to Aurora’s ward, a trace of apology in her expression as she stepped inside.

"Sorry I took so long," she said, her gaze settling on Aurora.

Aurora’s brow furrowed even more, her mind still tangled in the discovery she had made.

"Hmm," she murmured, barely looking at Sophia.

Sophia immediately sensed something was off. The air between them had shifted, and Aurora’s mood was different.

"What’s wrong?" Sophia asked, concern crossing her face.

Without thinking, Aurora blurted out, "Why didn’t you tell me?"

Sophia froze, her heart racing.

Oh no, has she found out?

Panic surged inside her, twisting her insides.

She could barely breathe as her mind raced through the possibilities.

Sophia gulped, her throat tight, and felt the sting of tears threatening to surface. "I’m sorry," she stammered, her voice trembling. "I—"

Before she could gather her thoughts, the emotions overwhelmed her.

Aurora’s expression softened, sensing the fear she had unintentionally caused. "Sophia, wait. I—"

"I didn’t mean to hide anything!" Sophia interrupted, her voice breaking. "I just... I didn’t know how to tell you. I was going to, I swear!"

Seeing her friend so distressed tugged at Aurora’s heart. "I’m not mad," Aurora said quickly. "I just wish you had trusted me enough to tell me. I thought we were always open with each other."

Sophia wiped away a tear, guilt settling deep within her.

Why didn’t I just tell her?

She blamed herself, not just for deceiving Aurora but for not telling Aurora about Hades’s schemes.

Aurora shook her head gently, and her next words caught Sophia off guard.

"You’re my best friend, Sophia. Your relationship with Hades wouldn’t be a burden to me. I just feel... left out. Why would you keep this from me?"

Sophia’s jaw dropped.

Wait, what?

Realization hit her like a wave—Aurora didn’t know anything about it.

She didn’t know about Hades’s schemes.

Aurora’s eyes moved to the phone lying beside her.

"I saw it, Sophia," Aurora said softly, a hint of disbelief in her voice as she picked up Sophia’s phone.
