Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School
Chapter 99: Shattered Silence.

Chapter 99: Shattered Silence.

Lucas carried Olive to his room, her arms wrapped around his neck as he navigated the stairs. Once he reached his room, he carefully opened the door and carried Olive inside, closing it quietly behind them. He gently laid Olive on his bed, her eyes fixed on his as he began to tend to her injured leg.

"Does it hurt?" Lucas asked, his voice laced with concern, though he tried hard to mask it. He couldn’t afford to show too much emotion; Aiden would be back soon. "I don’t want him to find us here and risk exposing your secret."

"You should hurry back to your room once I’m done with your leg. Have a warm bath, dry your hair to avoid getting cold." Lucas continued, his gaze fixed on the leg he was tending to.

As Lucas examined her leg, Olive winced. "I’m so sorry, Lucas."

"Sorry? For what?" Lucas asked, his gaze narrowing as he looked at her.

Olive’s expression turned somber. She reached out, intending to touch his face, but Lucas quickly pulled back. "For hurting you."

Lucas raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest. "Hurting me? How exactly? Can you tell me?"

Olive’s thoughts raced, her expression downcast. ’I can’t tell him I’m sorry for what I said to him. It’s better we just forget about it.’ She forced herself to speak. "No, I mean... I’m thanking you for saving me from drowning."

Lucas’s expression hardened, though his eyes betrayed a flicker of pain. "Oh, so you didn’t hurt me. You’re just thanking me for saving you," he said with a smirk. "Well, there’s nothing to thank me for. I only saved you because I can’t afford to have someone die at my vacation house. I don’t want to give the reporters a story about my family."

Olive swallowed hard, knowing Lucas’s harsh words were fueled by anger. She understood that she had hurt him deeply.

"Still," Olive managed to say, her voice tinged with sadness, "thank you for saving me. I could’ve died if you hadn’t arrived on time."

Lucas ignored her, continuing to tend to her leg in silence.

"Lucas?" Olive whispered, her voice barely audible.

"Yeah?" Lucas responded, his eyes still focused on her wound. "What is it now?"

Taking a deep breath, Olive steeled herself. "I think I should go back to my room now. Aiden and the others might return soon."

"True. I’m done here anyway," Lucas replied, letting go of her leg. His gaze met hers briefly before he looked away. "And I think it’s best we all return to school. We’ve had enough of this vacation—at least, you all have. I haven’t enjoyed a moment of it. I’ll bring it up at dinner tonight."

"Yes, we should go back," Olive agreed, her tone resolute. "I need to focus on schoolwork again."

Lucas’s smirk returned. "Of course. You’ll be rid of me and my face that irritates you so much," he said bitterly. "You won’t have to see me or deal with my attitude anymore."

Olive’s eyes dropped, her heart aching at his words. She knew Lucas was still wounded from their previous encounter.

"Lucas, I..." Olive began, but he cut her off.

"No, Olive. Let’s just forget about it," Lucas said, his voice detached. "We’ll go back to school, and everything will go back to normal. No one needs to know what happened between us unless you want them to. And if you’re worried about your secret, don’t be. I won’t expose you. You can keep living as Arthur until you’re done with school."

Olive nodded, the weight of her guilt pressing down on her. She knew she had hurt Lucas deeply, and now she felt the sting of his words.

"Thanks for taking care of my leg," Olive said softly, even though she knew it wasn’t what Lucas wanted to hear.

Lucas nodded curtly, avoiding her gaze. "Sure. It’s still all about the thanks, isn’t it?" he remarked with a smirk. "Just get some rest, Olive. We’ll talk at dinner."

Olive quickly gathered her things, eager to escape the tension in the room. As she reached the door, she paused and turned back to Lucas.

"Lucas?"

"Yeah?" His voice was still cold.

"Thanks again," Olive said, her eyes meeting his for a brief moment.

Lucas sighed, his expression unyielding. "I’ve had enough of the thank yous for tonight. Now, kindly make your way out of my room before someone sees you. I won’t be able to save you once they discover your secret," he warned, shifting his gaze away.

Olive left the room, her heart heavy with sadness and despair as she made her way to her own room.

When she entered her room, she found Lara waiting for her, concern etched on her face.

"Hey," Lara said, rushing to Olive’s side and pulling her into a hug. "I’ve been looking for you."

Olive managed a weak smile. "I’m fine. I almost drowned, but Lucas saved me."

Lara’s eyes widened with worry. "What?! I’m so sorry about that, baby girl. How are you feeling now? I stayed in your room when I heard voices in Lucas’s room bit I was worried someone might hear both of you talking, so I locked the villa’s main entry door."

Olive let out a small laugh at Lara’s words. "You’d better go open the door for them. Thanks though."

"Are you sure you’re okay, though?" Lara asked, her concern deepening. "You might be laughing, but your expression says otherwise. Did you and Lucas have a fight?"

"It’s nothing, Lara. I’m good," Olive reassured her with a smile.

"Alright, but make sure you take a warm bath and dry yourself off. We’ll talk later," Lara said before leaving to unlock the villa’s main door.

As Lara walked out, Olive’s smile faded, and she felt a wave of emotions crash over her. She collapsed onto her bed, burying her face in her pillow to stifle her tears. The encounter with Lucas had left her feeling raw and vulnerable. She couldn’t shake the guilt and the sting of his words.

Olive lay there for a while, trying to pull herself together, but the sadness only grew stronger. She felt lost and alone, unsure of how to make things right with Lucas. Finally, she got up from the bed and moved to her drawer, pulling out the leg chain Lucas had given her.

’Should I return this to him?’ Olive wondered, sighing heavily.

She shook her head and scolded herself. ’Are you a fool, Olive? Haven’t you hurt him enough with words? And now you want to hurt him again by returning his gift?’ Quickly, she put the leg chain back in the drawer and returned to her bed.

As the evening drew near, Olive knew she had to put on a brave face and join the others for dinner. She took a deep breath, wiped away her tears, changed into a new outfit and made her way to the dining room.

The group was already seated, chatting and laughing, but Lucas’s expression was somber. Olive’s heart skipped a beat when their eyes met, but Lucas quickly looked away.

As they began to eat, Lucas cleared his throat, commanding attention. "I think it’s time for us to head back to school. We’ve had enough fun on this vacation, and I’m sure we all have work to catch up on."

"Huh? It hasn’t been two weeks yet. Why the sudden rush?" Aiden asked, puzzled.

"Exactly. What’s going on?" Henry chimed in, raising an eyebrow.

"You showed up drunk this morning, and now you’re asking us to head back to school? Is there something you’re not telling us?" Mark added, his gaze fixed on Lucas with concern.

"I’ve asked him repeatedly, but he won’t tell me anything. I had to leave his room out of frustration," Aiden exclaimed with a sigh. "He’s been like this ever since he disappeared with Arthur during the horse race. What exactly went wrong between you two?"

"It’s nothing," Lucas replied, his tone serious. "For your information, I called my mom, and she agreed that everyone on vacation should return to school, including us. We need to focus on our studies—exams are fast approaching, and we should be preparing rather than wasting time here."

"Huh? Since when did you care about exams and studying?" Aiden asked, shocked and confused.

"Well, I care now," Lucas responded bluntly.

"Wow... Unbelievable!" Henry exclaimed, bewildered.

Meanwhile, Lara, who was sitting beside Olive, held her hand under the table, trying to comfort her. She could sense the sadness in Olive’s eyes.

"Uh... Since Mrs. George already agreed that we should head back to school, I guess we should just go," Mark interjected with a sigh. "Let’s finish dinner quickly and start packing."

"I really can’t believe this. I haven’t even had enough fun." Aiden interjected with a frustrated expression.

"Aiden please." Mark cautioned, his gaze fixed on Aiden.

"Fine! We should all return. The vacation was already getting boring after all." Aiden said, with a smirk.

The group nodded in agreement. Soon after, everyone retreated to their rooms to prepare for the journey back to school.
