Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School
Chapter 89: The Space Between Us

Chapter 89: The Space Between Us

"She’s definitely up to something. Mom wouldn’t just send me on a vacation out of the blue, especially after what happened. There’s more to this," Lucas muttered quietly, feeling frustrated.

Lucas’s mind was filled with questions. Why did his mom want to become the principal? And what was the real motive behind the vacation offer? He glanced around, noticing Clara’s disappointed look and his friends’ inquisitive stares.

"Alright students, you can all head back to class," Mrs. George announced with a smile, and the assembly hall burst into applause before quieting down as the students began to leave.

As the assembly ended, Lucas approached his mom. "Mom, can we talk for a minute?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

"Of course, honey. What’s on your mind?" Mrs. George responded, her eyes twinkling mischievously.

"What’s really going on, Mom? You’re always so busy, and now you’re the principal? And what’s the deal with the vacation offer?" Lucas inquired, attempting to maintain a neutral tone. "Why did you invite my older sister here when you knew you were going to take over instead of her?"

Mrs. George smiled. "I understand it may come as a surprise, but I am determined to make a positive impact in this school. And regarding the vacation, I believe you deserve a break. You have faced numerous challenges, and I want to ensure you are well taken care of. Furthermore, given the recent events, I prefer to be the one in charge rather than Clara taking over as principal."

Lucas arched an eyebrow but opted to stay quiet.

"Alright, Mom. I trust your judgment," Lucas replied, attempting to sound reassured.

However, as he walked away, a nagging suspicion lingered in his mind that his mother was concealing something significant.

Meanwhile, Clara approached Mrs. George with a mix of disappointment and concern on her face. Lucas, uninterested in the family drama, headed back to Olive’s dorm instead of the 3RM special room.

_______

Lucas opened the door to the dorm with his own key and entered, closing it behind him.

As expected, Olive was sitting on her bed, engrossed in a novel. She looked up as Lucas entered.

"How are you feeling?" Olive asked, her voice filled with concern as she stood up to help Lucas to his bed.

"I’m good, just want to relax here," Lucas replied. Olive nodded and returned to her novel.

Lucas couldn’t take his eyes off Olive’s face, a smile playing on his lips as he looked at her. "Thank you," he finally said, causing Olive to turn towards him.

"Huh?"

"Thank you. I really appreciate all of you being such great friends," Lucas repeated, still smiling.

"It’s no problem, Lucas. I should be the one thanking you for saving my life," Olive replied with a smile before returning to her book, seemingly avoiding Lucas’s gaze that seemed to be drawing her in.

"Ouch!" A pained groan escaped Lucas, making Olive look up from her book to see him struggling to remove his shirt.

"You could have just asked for help," Olive exclaimed, worry evident on her face as she hurried over to Lucas. "The wound is bleeding again, I need to clean it up and bandage it."

Despite her scolding, Lucas remained silent and watched as she helped him remove his clothes. She then fetched the first aid box and began unwrapping the old bandage, revealing a fresh wound on Lucas’s chest that was now stained with blood.

Tears welled up in Olive’s eyes as she looked at the wound, which she started cleaning with methylated spirit and cotton wool. "It must hurt a lot," she whispered, a tear falling from her eye without her noticing.

Lucas, preoccupied with his own pain as the methylated spirit and cotton wool touched his wound, suddenly opened his eyes when he noticed that Olive had stopped cleaning his wound. "Huh? Are you crying?"

Olive quickly wiped away the tear, trying to conceal her emotions. "No, I’m fine," she said, her voice slightly trembling.

Lucas’s expression softened, and he reached out to gently brush away another tear forming in the corner of Olive’s eye. "Hey, don’t cry. I’m okay. It’s just a little pain," he reassured her.

Olive smiled weakly and continued cleaning the wound again, her hands shaking slightly. "Don’t get your hopes up. I’m not worried about you, I was just thinking about something else."

"Really?" Lucas asked with a smirk, knowing she was lying. He noticed that she couldn’t maintain eye contact when she lied. "Well, go ahead and lie all you want."

"I’m not lying," Olive replied, looking up from Lucas’s wound but quickly breaking eye contact.

Lucas observed her, feeling grateful and affectionate towards her.

After Olive finished bandaging the wound, Lucas took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Thanks, pookie. I don’t know what I’d do without you."

"Pookie? Why are you calling me that?" Olive asked, raising her eyebrows in curiosity.

"What’s your real name? You can’t be Arthur since you’re a girl," Lucas inquired.

" Olive."

"Huh?"

"Yes! My real name is Olivia Williams. Yes, I share the same name with your sister."

"Now I understand why you could annoy me and I still feel calm about it." Lucas replied with an outburst of laughter and soon stopped, locking gaze with Olive. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable.

"But I still choose to call you pookie or shorty since I wouldn’t be able to address you with your real name no matter how bad I want to except we’re both alone." Lucas proposed with a warm smile.

"Don’t call me any of it. It’s stupid. Just refer to me as Arthur." Olive replied with a light chuckle.

"I know what to refer to you as. You don’t need to tell me what to call you or what not to call you." Lucas replied, his face full of excitement.

Olive smiled and looked away, her cheeks flushing slightly, but the silence in the room remained. Even though Olive broke gaze, Lucas’s gaze was still fixed on her face, and Olive soon locked gaze with him again.

Lucas’s heart was pounding, the sound of his own heartbeat growing louder in his ears.

Olive looked away, her nervousness evident as she prepared to leave Lucas’s bed. He reached out and pulled her back, their faces close.

"Olive, can I ask you something?" he said, his voice soft and deep.

Olive nodded.

Lucas moved in closer, their lips almost touching..."Would you like to come to the 3RM vacation house with me?" He asked, masking his true intentions. "It would be more fun than going to Paris with the other students."

Olive was disappointed by his question,as she was hoping for a declaration of love. She had rejected him but want him now. She longed to kiss him again, to taste his lips. She wanted to know his true feelings.

"How’s that going to be possible? Didn’t your mom said that you’re going with members of the 3RM."

"You just accept it. I choose who I want to take to the vacation house. No one makes that decision for me. Lucas replied with a smile.

"Okay! I’m in!" Olive replied. "Can I ask you a question too though?"

" Oh yes!" Lucas replied, his curiosity piqued.

" Why did you take the bullet for me?" Olive asked as she swallowed hard.

"Oh that. Others are saying I took a bullet for you but I didn’t. Anyone could have been hit by that bullet and besides, isn’t Mr. Philip aiming for me? I can also say that he’s a master shooter." Lucas replied nervously with a forced smile.

Lucas felt a sharp pain in his heart. He had just told a terrible lie. He had purposely taken the bullet for Olive but chose to lie about it.

"Okay!" Olive replied and then got off his bed and made her way to her own bed.

’Liar! You pushed me away and took the bullet, you idiot. What’s so hard to accept there.’ Olive thought to herself as she settled down in bed.

As Olive lay in bed, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Lucas was keeping something from her. Despite knowing he had taken the bullet for her, she couldn’t understand why he was denying it. A mix of emotions swirled within her: anger, confusion, and hurt.

Just as she was about to close her eyes, Lucas approached her bed and stood before her.

"What’s wrong? Do you need help?" Olive asked as she got out of bed and faced Lucas, their eyes meeting.

"I did take the bullet for you. I know it was foolish, but I don’t regret it," Lucas confessed with a heavy heart.

"Oh, I see," Olive responded, though it wasn’t the response she had intended. "Thank you for saving me."

"Is that all you have to say?" Lucas questioned, looking puzzled.

"What else do you expect me to say?" Olive inquired, her eyebrows raised in curiosity.

Lucas moved closer, lowering himself slightly to Olive’s level, their lips almost touching.

"You could as well show your gratitude with a kiss," he suggested, pulling Olive closer by the waist and kissing her.

Olive’s heart raced as Lucas’s lips met hers. She had longed for this moment, and as it unfolded, she felt herself melting into his embrace. The kiss started gently but quickly deepened, and Olive found herself lost in the sensation.
