Chapter 74: Breaking Free..

In a dim, cramped room with peeling plaster walls and a worn concrete floor, various broken tools were scattered around. A single flickering light bulb cast eerie shadows, adding to the oppressive atmosphere. The air was thick with the smell of mold and decay.

Henry sat on a rickety chair, his wrists and ankles bound to the chair legs with strong ropes, his mouth covered with tape. The chair creaked ominously as he shifted his weight.

Above him, a small window set high into the wall just below the roof was barred with thick iron rods and covered in grime, obscuring the view outside. A faint glow of sunlight struggled to penetrate the dirt, casting a dim rectangular patch on the floor.

The window seemed impossibly out of reach, with no footholds on the walls. Escape appeared hopeless, yet Henry’s eyes kept drifting to the window, his mind racing with desperate plans.

"Has Mr Philip sent the payment to end his life yet?" one of the burly men asked, his voice cold and serious.

"Not yet," the other replied with a heavy sigh. "Should we just kill him and leave?"

"No," the boss said firmly. "I require payment before the service. If he doesn’t send the money on time, we’ll leave him until he does." With that, the boss left the room.

"Hey, you! You better behave yourself. I’m going to grab something to eat, and I’m sure you must be hungry too. If you try anything funny before I get back, I’ll take action. The other burly man warned, his voice menacing as he glared at Henry. He then exited the room, closing the door firmly behind him with a loud bang, leaving Henry alone.

As soon as the burly men left, Henry began struggling to free himself from the chair, but his efforts were in vain. He noticed broken pieces of plastic and other sharp objects in the room, but none of them seemed useful for escaping. His eyes soon landed on a glass cup that one of the burly men had used the previous night.

Henry’s eyes locked onto the window, his mind racing with desperate plans. He knew it was his only chance. With a surge of adrenaline, he shook the chair until it toppled over.

"I hope my partner message got through to you. Do you want to face consequences

before following a simple instruction?" One of the burly man’s voice echoed from outside the room, instilling fear in Henry.

After a few moments of silence, Henry still on the floor started kicking the table with his legs, hoping to knock over the glass cup.

After what felt like an eternity, his persistence paid off as the glass cup fell and shattered on the ground. Henry grabbed a piece of the broken glass, with a feeling of excitement and fear, he began cutting the rope with the broken glass and just then, one of the burly men re-entered the room.

Lucas still couldn’t shake the thought of where Henry might be from his mind.

Just where did he go? How can he not come to his dorm last night? Water dis he spend the night then?

Different thoughs were going through Lucas’s mind as he heaved heavy sigh simultaneously.

Ping!

His phone rang, interrupting his thoughts. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his iPhone 15promax, seeing his elder sister’s name on the screen.

"What does the witch want now? It’s always trouble when she calls. I’m not going to answer," Lucas muttered to himself, putting his phone back in his pocket. But it rang again.

"What the fuck does she want from me?" Lucas muttered, taking out his phone and answering the call this time.

"Hi elder sister! What’s up?" Lucas said feigning excitement, a smile on his face.

"Come pick me up at the airport," his sister’s voice came through the phone.

"What? You’re here?" Lucas asked, eyebrows raised in surprise.

" Yes, I am. Come pick me up this minute," the voice said over the phone, cold and commanding.

"I’m not your driver. Call one of the drivers to pick you up," Lucas replied with a frown before hanging up the phone. He was about to walk away from Henry dorm door when his phone rang again.

"Argh!" he exclaimed as he answered the call. "Which part of ’call one of the drivers’ don’t you understand, Clara?"

"Don’t you hang up the phone or you’ll be sorry. Come pick me up at the airport, and my stay at the house will be peaceful with you," Clara threatened over the phone.

"Don’t worry. You won’t be seeing me at home as I stay in the school dorm, so your threat can’t work," Lucas replied, a smirk appearing on his lips.

"Are you not supposed to have a new principal soon?" Clara said scornfully. "Let’s see how I’ll start disciplining kids like you."

"Huh? Don’t tell me you’re the new principal. No fucking way!" Lucas yelled, his body tensing up in anger and frustration. The students in the hallway turned their questioning and annoyed gazes to him due to his loudness, but Lucas didn’t even bother.

"Yes fucking way! get your ass right here now and come pick me up, or get ready for my wrath," Clara said seriously before ending the call.

"Damn! How could she be the new principal? I’m going crazy right now!" Lucas groaned, anger written all over his face as he made his way out of the school building towards the parking lot.

_________

"What’s your issue? I already warned you to behave. The burly man shouted upon seeing Henry. He approached him, and pulled him up with the chair.

"There’s no point struggling to escape as it’s impossible. You’re going to die soon so save your strength." The burly man said with seriousness laced in his tone.

He then removed the tape from Henry’s mouth, causing him to cough.

"Here, have some food," the burly man said, offering a meat pie to Henry, who turned his head away in refusal.

"You’re refusing food? It’s better to eat something before you die. Taste the last meal of the living before you start eating the food of the dead," the burly man chuckled.

Despite this, Henry continued to turn his head away.

"Fine, stay hungry then, but behave yourself," the burly man said before leaving the room and slamming the door behind him.

Henry soon resumed cutting the rope around his hand and successfully freed himself. He then removed the tape from his mouth and proceeded to cut the rope around his legs, also successfully freeing himself from the chair.

Looking up at the window near the ceiling, Henry realized it would be difficult to reach, but he knew he had to act quickly before the burly man returned to the room.

An idea came to him, and he grabbed the rope that had been used to tie his hands and legs. Despite being cut into two pieces, it was still long enough to reach the window.

He proceeded with his plan by tossing one end of the rope upward, attempting to lasso the window bars. After a few tries, he managed to catch hold of the bars. Henry pulled himself up, using the rope to support his weight as he climbed the wall, his muscles straining in pain.

"I can do it!" Henry murmured to himself.

As he approached the top, he noticed that the window was stuck, probably from years of not being opened. Henry clenched his teeth and exerted all his strength to force the window open. The creaking noise reverberated in the room, causing him to freeze, hoping the burly men hadn’t heard.

With one final push, the window swung open, revealing a beam of sunlight. Henry pulled himself up with all the strength he could muster and squeezed through the narrow gap and just then, he heard the door creaking below.

"Hey! Get down, you!" The burly men were furious, but Henry quickly untied the rope from the window bar before they could climb up. He then blocked the window and stood up, surveying his surroundings.

He was in a small bush, with the express road just a few meters away, cars speeding by.

"I need to get out of here before those men come looking for me," Henry muttered to himself as he started walking towards the express road, hoping to find a kind stranger who could give him a ride.

"Hey, wait, you! Henry heard a voice and turned back to see the burly men.

He wasn’t expecting them to catch up with him so fast but here they are.

"Darn it!"

He quickly began running while the burly men chase after him.

Meanwhile, Lucas was seated in his Honda Pilot jeep, blasting music as he drove at high speed.

Ping!

His phone kept ringing incessantly.

"Can she just relax and let me drive in peace? Why are women so impatient?" Lucas grumbled as he drove, ending the call on his phone without looking at the road, evrn though he was driving. When he turned his attention back to the road, he quickly pressed his brake as he almost hit someone who ran Infront of his car suddenly.

Panicked, Lucas slowly raised his head from the car wheel, only to see Henry covered in bruises, his shirt stained in blood.

"Oh my goodness ! I thought I’ve killed someone!" Lucas murmured to himself as he heaved sigh of relief. "What the hell happened to you? Were you beaten?" He shouted with anger laced in his voice."You left school just to get beaten, huh?"

Ignoring the question, Henry recognizing Lucas quickly got got into his car, breathing heavily.

"Drive, Lucas, get us out of here!" Henry shouted urgently, his eyes fixed on the approaching burly men.

"What’s wrong?" Lucas asked, his expression puzzled, not knowing the reason behind Henry urgency. "Didn’t give you permission to enter my car dude."

"Drive the damn car Lucas!" Henry yelled as he saw one of the men pull out a gun.
