Chapter 75: A Life On The Run.

Screech***

Henry took hold of the car wheel, swerving the car in the opposite direction and taking control even though he wasn’t the one driving, but rather sitting next to Lucas. The rear window shattered, shards of glass flying everywhere. "

"Who are they?" Lucas gasped, struggling to catch his breath as he regained control of the wheel and accelerated, while Henry kept a watchful eye on the rearview mirror to ensure they weren’t being pursued.

"What the hell did they want from you? We could have been killed," Lucas exclaimed, his face a blend of astonishment and terror as he drove at top speed.

"Yeah! They were trying to shoot me." Henry replied firmly after confirming that the burly men were not following them.

"What do they want from you? Why do they want you dead? Should we go to the police station and report this?" Lucas asked, keeping his eyes on the road.

"No!" Henry responded quickly, still catching his breath.

"Why do you think we shouldn’t go to the police station? What about school? We could report this to a teacher and those guys would be arrested." Lucas suggested, his tone serious.

"I can’t go to school or the police station. Do you know of a secluded place where I can hide? Somewhere unknown to anyone." Henry inquired.

"What are you saying? Even if you don’t want to go to the school or police station, you still have to go to the hospital. You’re badly injured and you need treatment." Lucas retorted, his voice a mix of anger and concern.

"No! Nobody must know that I’m still alive, Lucas," Henry replied, prompting Lucas to direct his gaze from the road to him. "Face the damn road, Lucas, or we’ll both be going to heaven today."

Beep***

"Are you out of your mind? If you want to risk your life, do it alone, you jerk!!!...

"Insane!...

Lucas quickly composed himself, skillfully avoiding hitting other cars and continuing to drive at full speed.

"You can ask your questions later, but for now, please just take me somewhere where we won’t be found." Henry urged, prompting Lucas to stay silent and keep driving.

Lucas’s eyes narrowed, his hands tightening on the wheel. "Fine. I know a place. But you better explain everything to me when we get there, Henry."

Henry nodded, panting for breath heavily . "I’ll tell you everything. Just get me to that place first."

Lucas nodded and continued driving. After several minutes of driving , he made a sharp turn onto a side road. They raced down the empty street, the only sounds being the engine’s hum and the wind whipping by.

After a few minutes of driving, Lucas veered onto a dirt path, leading them deep into the woods. The trees grew denser here, casting shadows on the ground.

Eventually, they reached a bungalow hidden from view, still in the process of being built with no doors. Lucas turned off the engine, got out of the car, and guided Henry inside.

The house was sparsely furnished with covered sofas and tables, lacking in comfort but serving its purpose as a retreat. Lucas removed the nylon covers, causing dust to swirl in the air.

"Be careful. Who knows how long it’s been since anyone was here," Henry warned, covering his nose as he coughed.

"Sorry it’s like this," Lucas apologized in a hushed tone. "But you’ll be safe here."

Henry expressed his gratitude, looking around cautiously. "Thank you, Lucas. I appreciate it."

"Sit tight. I’ll grab a first aid kit," Lucas said, helping Henry settle into a chair before heading towards the inner room.

Lucas soon returned with a first aid kit and began to treat Henry’s injuries. He carefully cleaned and bandaged the cuts and bruises, his movements precise and gentle. Henry winced in pain but remained quiet, watching Lucas intently.

As Lucas worked, Henry glanced around the room, noting the unfinished construction. "This is your family’s hunting lodge, right?" he asked, his voice soft. "It seems like it’s been untouched for a while."

Lucas confirmed, still focused on the task at hand. "Yes, my dad started building it a long time ago but never completed it. It’s been abandoned ever since."

Henry’s attention shifted back to Lucas. "So why did you bring me here?"

Lucas hesitated briefly, then resumed his work. "I brought you here because it’s a secluded and safe place. No one knows about it."

Henry’s expression turned skeptical. "Are you sure about that? If your father started building it years ago, there must be others who know about it. What if your father decide to come check it out."

Lucas’s demeanor became somber, but he continued treating the wound. "Actually, this house belongs to Olivia. It was meant to be a surprise for her, but she passed away before it was finished. I come here whenever I feel sad and shitty about myself. This place serves as my comfort zone."

"I’m sorry for bringing this up. I didn’t realize it was a sensitive topic." Henry responded, looking down, while Lucas continued to tend to the wound without saying anything.

After finishing dressing the wound, Henry’s spirits seemed to lift. Lucas helped him lie down on the sofa and covered him with a blanket.

Henry spoke softly, "Thank you, Lucas...I appreciate your help..."

Lucas smiled warmly, "You don’t owe me anything, Henry. So, who were those men?"

Henry let out a heavy sigh, his eyes fixed on Lucas. "They are Mr. Philip’s men, and they want to harm me."

"Harm you?!" Lucas exclaimed, looking surprised. "Are you sure you’re not mistaken? Mr. Philip had left the country last night."

"What?" Henry raised an eyebrow as he sat up, wincing in pain. "How do you know Mr. Philip left the country last night?"

Lucas hesitated, as he tries to think of a lie to tell Henry.

No one knew Mr. Philip was leaving except for him and the George family.

"He left his resignation letter, so it’s logical that he would leave the country..." Lucas tried to explain.

"Don’t lie, Lucas," Henry interrupted, his voice filled with anger. "Just because he resigned doesn’t mean he would abandon his son Samson in prison."

Lucas sighed heavily, realizing he couldn’t

hide the truth any longer.

"So, you knew Mr. Philip left the country with his sons last night?" Henry asked, his fists clenched, his eyes locked on Lucas.

"Yes," Lucas admitted, only to receive a punch to the mouth, causing him to fall to the ground. Henry didn’t hold back, attacking Lucas as they engaged in a physical altercation.

"I had no choice, Henry," Lucas explained, trying to defend himself as they fought.

"Damn you and your excuses! Damn all you rich people," Henry spat, continuing to fight.

"If I hadn’t let them go, they would have killed you for real, Henry," Lucas revealed, shocking Henry into stopping his assault. Lucas pushed him away and stood up, blood dripping from his mouth and nose, while Henry also got up from the ground.

"What do you mean?" Henry asked panting heavily, his curiosity piqued.

Meanwhile, in the 3RM special room, Olive emerged from the bathroom and hastily grabbed the towel Lucas had left for her on the bed, quickly wrapping it around her body out of fear of someone walking in.

’Will anyone come soon?’ Olive wondered, her heart pounding in her chest. ’What if someone walks in while I’m getting dressed?’

She approached the door, but didn’t hear the chattering sounds of students.

’Class had started I guess’ She thought to herself as she reached for the doorknob, only to realize it was locked.

"Thank goodness! That fool is smarter than I thought." She muttered to herself with a smile, then returned to the bed to get dressed.

Once she was in her school uniform, her curly brown hair pulled back into a bun, Olive added a spritz of perfume and checked her appearance in Lucas’s mirror.

"Perfect!" She exclaimed with a smile, then went to unlock the door.

"What? The door is locked? Did Lucas lock me in?" The realization hit Olive, a mix of frustration and anger washing over her.

She could have reached the first time she tried opening the door and realized that it was locked but she was wishing it was locked then so that she could dress up but now that she’s done, she really needs the door to be unlocked.

She tugged at the door handle, but it wouldn’t open. She was trapped. Panic and anger surged through her as she pounded on the door, calling out for Lucas.

"Lucas! Open the door! What’s going on?" She received no response, only silence.

Olive’s mind raced as she tried to figure out a way to escape. She needed to get to class.

Remembering Lucas’s request to be called when she was done, Olive retrieved her phone from her pocket and dialed his number, but there was no answer.

Frustrated, she tried calling Mark but still no response. She couldn’t understand what was happening. She proceeded and called Henry but his phone was switched off.

"What is going on?" Olive seethed, her anger growing. She didn’t have Aiden’s number, as they weren’t on good terms and didn’t exchange numbers.

Fuming, Olive continued to try calling Lucas, determined to get out of the locked room.
