Chapter 48: Conflicts And Confrontations
Lucas pulled back, his eyes filled with desire. "I know it’s crazy, but I can’t control how I feel," he whispered. "I want to be with you, Arthur. I want to explore this connection and see where it leads."
Olive’s emotions were in turmoil, but her body seemed to act on its own accord. She found herself leaning in, her lips parting slightly in anticipation of another kiss.
And then it happened. Lucas’s lips met hers, his kiss passionate and intense. Olive felt herself surrendering to the moment. Lucas hand held her head firmly as he continued to kiss her lips passionately and just when Lucas began to move his hand to her chest, Olive pulled away.
"I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in a romantic relationship with you," Olive said, her breath coming in short gasps. She knew how important her scholarship at Belmont was to her, as it meant the opportunity to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor and building a successful career.
"I can’t return your feelings," Olive stammered, her heart pounding in her chest.
’If he discovers my secret, I could lose everything I’ve worked for at this school. I can’t risk it.’ Olive thought to herself, her eyes fixed on Lucas.
"I’m sorry! You’ve made it clear that you’re not interested in a same-sex relationship, and yet you kissed me back. Why?" Lucas questioned, raising an eyebrow. When he received no response, he sighed. "I’ll deal with my own issues. I apologize for troubling you," he said as he descended the stairs of the school.
Olive’s expression was filled with sadness as she replayed the recent kiss in her mind.
"I’m sorry, Lucas. You’re not gay. You actually like a girl, not a boy. I wish I could tell you, but I can’t. And you didn’t fall for me, you just think you did. I’m sure if there were other girls around, you’d definitely be interested," Olive muttered to herself, her expression still sad.
Suddenly, she remembered Mark’s warning.
"Oh no! Mark said not to come down until he picks us up," Olive exclaimed as she hurried downstairs.
"Lucas!" she called out, but Lucas turned away from her and his gaze landed on a mysterious guy coming out of the principal’s office.
The students in the hallway braced themselves for the drama about to unfold the moment they sighted Lucas.
"It’s all over," Mark muttered quietly to himself. "I told Arthur not to let him come downstairs."
Lucas immediately targeted the guy, noticing veins bulging on his forehead as he delivered a powerful punch to the man’s face, causing him to fall to the ground with blood streaming from his nose.
"How dare you enter this school, you jerk!" Lucas shouted as he continued to pummel the guy.
The chaotic scene unfolded with Lucas’ fury unleashed on the stranger. Mark attempted to intervene and calm Lucas down, but his efforts were in vain.
Olive watched in shock, fearing the outcome of the violent confrontation. Despite the guy’s attempts to defend himself, Lucas showed no mercy.
As Olive tried to step in to stop the fight, she was pushed aside, narrowly avoiding hitting her head on a school locker.
"Are you okay?" Mark asked, helping her up.
"I’m good" Olive replied with a heavy sigh.
"Stop this immediately!" Mr. Philip yelled, but the altercation persisted until the arrival of the school security guards.
They managed to separateLucas from the guy, who was assisted to his feet, battered and bleeding. Lucas, still filled with rage, was restrained and escorted away, cursing and struggling against the guards.
The two were quickly escorted to the classroom, with the rest of Lucas’s classmates following suit or returning to their own classes.
"Who let this guy into the school?" Lucas demanded, his face flushed with anger as he paced back and forth.
The mysterious individual sat in a chair, receiving attention from the school nurse for his injuries, while security guards stood by to prevent any confrontation.
"Lucas, your mother allowed Desmond to return to school. The police have cleared him of any wrongdoing," Mr. Philip explained, his tone serious yet reassuring as he looked at Lucas.
"That’s ridiculous!," Lucas shouted.
"Desmond is back at school for good. It’s not fair to treat him this way. He missed two years of education while in prison, so I had to place him in this class," Mr. Philip stated firmly.
"My sister died at sixteen. How is that fair?" Lucas challenged, his eyes flashing with anger. He turned to the other students. "You all need to choose sides - either support me or support this criminal."
"This isn’t about taking sides, Lucas," Mr. Philip replied.
"It absolutely is, and you’ve chosen yours, Mr. Philip," Lucas said with a smirk.
"Lucas! You need to calm down and listen to Mr. Philip. I’m sure your mom has a reason for sending Desmond back to this school. Olive interjected, her voice calm and collected.
"Even you?" Lucas asked with an incredulous expression as he turned his gaze to Olive. "What reasons does she have?"
"You can ask her first." Olive replied nervously.
"Can’t believe you’re saying this out of all people. Like I actually told you about this story and yet you are speaking up for this criminal." Lucas uttered, his body tensed up in anger.
"Told you the scholarship student can’t be trusted hence you made friends with him. They’re all just a bunch of criminals." Thomas spat.
"Always want to kiss up to the rich just like what this idiot did. Samson added, his angry gaze fixed on Desmond. He got close to your sister to change his family background, got her impregnated."
"I didn’t ask her to abort...,"Desmond began to say only for Samson to silence him with a punch to his face.
"Samson!" Mr. Philip called with rage in his voice.
"Sorry dad! Couldn’t control my hand." Samson replied, as he blew air with his mouth on his hand he just used to punch Desmond.
"You’re definitely going to be punished. Anyone who hurts Desmond would be punished," Mr. Philip declared only to add to Lucas’s anger.
Olive could only heave a heavy sigh as even Mark and Aiden sat still, as they’re in support of Lucas’s action.
"So, have you also chosen a side. Did you choose me or the motherfucker?" Lucas asked, his gaze fixed on Olive.
"I’m not on anyone’s side. I’m just trying to let you know that bullying him isn’t the right thing." Olive replied. "Just like Mr. Philip had said, you should just ask your mom why she..."
"You’ve chosen your answer right?" Lucas uttered with a smirk. "I almost forgot that you’re also a scholarship student so of course you’ll support him."
" I said I’m not supporting...,"
Olive started to say but was cut off by Lucas.
"Of course you spoke up for him when you should be on my side. I don’t blame you though, I’m the foolish one here to think you’re different." Lucas said, his eyes red with anger as he settled down on his chair leaving Olive dumbfounded.
