Chapter 172: I Never Speak Without Proof.
Still, as they sat there waiting for Aiden to complete his treatment, an unshakable sense of uncertainty lingered in the back of their minds. They all hoped, no, they believed that this time would be different.
______
Meanwhile, back at Belmont, Anabella sat in the paid student cafeteria, her tray untouched, her mind swirling with thoughts she couldn’t quiet.
"She’s really a girl? That bitch!" she muttered under her breath, her fingers tightening around the edge of the table.
The scene of Olive and Lucas in the bathroom replayed in her mind like a bad movie she couldn’t turn off. Her jaw clenched as the implications settled in.
"I should have known those bottom-feeders would try to cling to something good," she hissed through gritted teeth. "And now she sees Lucas as her golden ticket to rewrite her pathetic family’s history. Ha! She wishes!"
Her voice rose involuntarily, catching the attention of nearby students. Heads turned, their gazes sharp with curiosity, but as soon as they recognized her, they looked away just as quickly. After all, it was Anabella.
Despite the leaked video of her and her friends, no one dared to challenge her not with the looming influence of Mrs. George, who everyone now knew was the reason Anabella could still afford to attend Belmont.
"I’m definitely going to ruin her. Ruin her completely. She’s definitely going to regret ever crossing me!" Annabella vowed, her voice dripping with hatred.
"What’s with the noise?" came a voice from behind.
Anabella froze, instantly recognizing the familiar tone. She turned to see Racheal standing a few feet away. Racheal looked thinner than before, her face pale and drawn, but her eyes held a flicker of their old spark. Her hand rested protectively on her slightly rounded belly.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Anabella sprang up and enveloped her friend in a careful hug, mindful of the baby bump.
"Racheal!" Anabella exclaimed, her voice a mix of surprise and relief. "I missed you so much babe. What took you so long to come back?"
"I missed you too, Anabella," Racheal replied, her voice trembling as tears began streaming down her cheeks. "I had to prepare myself you know."
The two friends broke apart and sat down at the table, their hands clasped tightly as if afraid to let go.
"I almost thought I’d never see anyone again," Racheal confessed, her voice breaking. "My father left me to rot in rehab. He disowned me, Anabella. All of them did. My whole family."
Anabella’s expression softened, her usual bravado giving way to genuine concern. She reached out, squeezing Racheal’s hand with reassurance.
"I’m so sorry, Racheal," she said earnestly. "I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through. But listen to me, you’re not alone. I’m here for you, always. We’ll get through this together. We’ll show that family of yours that you can survive and you will. You and the precious baby growing in your tummy."
Racheal gave a weak smile, her tears still flowing. "Thank you, Anabella. Just hearing that...just seeing you...it makes me feel a little less lost. I’ve missed you so much. I missed Belmont, even though it’s not the same anymore."
For a moment, the two friends sat in silence, drawing strength from each other’s presence. Then Anabella broke the quiet, her voice tinged with curiosity.
"So," she began delicately, her eyes flicking to Racheal’s bump, "how...how are things? Is everything good?"
Racheal let out a dry laugh, her expression a mix of exhaustion and amusement. "Terrible. That’s how things are. Morning sickness, mood swings, emotions all over the place... I didn’t even get to deal with all this at home. I had to go through it in rehab, Anabella. Rehab! You can’t imagine how humiliating that was."
Anabella offered a faint, sympathetic smile. "I can’t imagine," she admitted softly. "But like I said, I’m here now. We’ve both lost so much, Racheal. We lost Peace. But we won’t lose each other. Not ever."
Racheal blushed, the faintest hint of color rising to her cheeks. "Thank you, Anabella. That means more to me than you know. Honestly." She paused, then raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "But tell me...what on earth had you so riled up earlier? You practically yelled the cafeteria down. Who dared to piss you off?"
Anabella leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You won’t believe what I saw today. I’m still shocked myself babe."
Racheal tilted her head, her curiosity growing. "What? What did you see that got you so worked up?"
Anabella’s eyes widened, and her tone was grave as she whispered, "Arthur. The guy we’ve all known as Arthur? Turns out...he’s not a guy at all. He’s a girl."
Racheal’s mouth fell open, her shock palpable. "What?! Are you serious right now?!"
"Dead serious," Anabella confirmed, her lips curling into a smirk at her friend’s reaction. "I wouldn’t be telling you if I wasn’t serious anyways." She added as she folded her arms over her chest, her expression still boiling with anger.
But Racheal’s expression shifted from shock to skepticism. "Anabella, are you sure you’re not drunk or something? If you’re saying Arthur’s a girl, are we supposed to believe the entire Belmont administration has been clueless about the gender of one of their own students? That’s insane!"
Anabella crossed her arms, her smirk deepening. "Believe it or not, Racheal, I saw it with my own eyes. You can call me crazy, but that’s the true. That bitch was a girl all these while. She’s a deceiver."
Racheal shook her head in disbelief but couldn’t suppress the curiosity glimmering in her eyes. "This place just keeps getting crazier, doesn’t it?"
"Well, you can say that because that’s what I thought too," Anabella said, her voice laced with bitterness. "She disguised herself as a boy to get into this school, got close to Lucas, seduced him, and now she’s his girlfriend. She’s a bitch, a sly fox." Anabella’s voice dripped with venom as she clenched her fists.
"Damn, girl. This is hard to believe," Racheal said, her brows furrowed as she weighed Anabella’s words. "Are you really sure about this?"
"Of course I am," Anabella shot back, her tone firm. "I never speak without proof."
