Disguised As A Boy To Attend Belmont High School
Chapter 171: Second Round Of Chemotherapy.

Chapter 171: Second Round Of Chemotherapy.

The sounds of muffled moans filled the small, dimly lit bathroom. Olive and Lucas were locked in a heated embrace, their breaths mingling as their lips collided in a passionate rhythm. However, their moment was abruptly interrupted when the sharp crash of a flower vase echoed from the hallway.

Olive froze, her heart pounding in her chest as she broke away from Lucas. "Damn! We’re in trouble. This is exactly why I said we shouldn’t do this," she hissed, jumping off the sink. She hurriedly adjusted her uniform and approached the bathroom door, which was slightly ajar. "You didn’t even lock the door, Lucas. Are you serious right now?"

"I thought I did," Lucas replied defensively, running a hand through his disheveled hair. He followed Olive toward the door, peering out cautiously. The shattered remnants of the flower vase lay scattered across the tiled floor, but there was no one in sight.

"I’m sure it was just the wind," Lucas said, though his voice lacked conviction.

Olive shot him an incredulous look, her frustration evident. "The wind? Lucas, it’s summer. There’s no wind indoors! That’s the worst excuse I’ve ever heard." She shook her head, muttering under her breath as she pushed the door shut and locked it securely. Turning back to face Lucas, she smoothed down her hair and tightened her tie. "From now on, stay away from me while we’re in school."

"Wait...." Lucas began, stepping closer to her.

But Olive cut him off, brushing past him and slamming the wooden door behind her with a loud bang.

"I can’t even blame him entirely," she muttered as she strode down the hallway. "I’m so foolish for letting this happen."

As Olive neared her classroom, the lunch bell rang, and the once-quiet corridor was flooded with students pouring out of their rooms. The air filled with chatter and laughter as the hallway transformed into a chaotic hub of activity.

"Hey!" Lara’s voice rang out above the noise. She emerged from the classroom alongside Mark and Aiden, her sharp gaze immediately landing on Olive. "You’ve been gone forever! Where’s Lucas?"

Lara grinned mischievously as she moved closer and leaned toward Olive’s ear. "Were you two making out in the bathroom or something?" she teased.

"Get away from me," Olive snapped, shoving past her friend. Her cheeks flushed as she tried to ignore Lara’s knowing smirk. "He’ll be here soon."

Mark, who had been observing the exchange, interjected with a more serious tone. "Anyway, time to head to the hospital. We’ll get back to studying once we’re back."

As he spoke, his eyes caught sight of Lucas approaching from the opposite direction. "Hey, man! You ready to come along?"

Lucas nodded, his gaze lingering on Olive as he reached the group. "Yeah, I’m ready. Let’s get out of here," he replied, though his tone carried a hint of distraction.

Olive avoided his gaze, her expression guarded as they made their way out of the school building. The sleek Lamborghini parked in front gleamed under the afternoon sun, and the group piled into the car.

The atmosphere during the drive was tense. Olive sat stiffly, her eyes fixed on the scenery flashing by outside the window. She couldn’t shake the feeling that someone had seen her and Lucas, and the thought made her stomach churn. Beside her, Lucas stole glances at her, his expression a mix of guilt and longing.

Finally, Lara broke the silence, her playful nature cutting through the tension. "Lucas," she said, her tone light but teasing as she turned to him. "Do you want to sit next to her instead? I don’t mind swapping seats if it’ll stop you from staring so hard."

Lucas’s cheeks reddened, and he swallowed hard before giving a small nod.

Olive’s head snapped toward Lara, her voice sharp. "No. I don’t want to sit next to him. Just stay where you are." Her tone left no room for argument, and Lara’s eyes widened in surprise at her friend’s reaction.

The awkward silence returned, thick and suffocating as they continued their journey. Lucas slumped back in his seat, running his fingers through his hair in frustration, while Olive crossed her arms tightly, as though building a barrier between them.

"What’s the problem this time around? Are you two fighting again?" Mark finally asked with a light chuckle as he glanced between Lucas and Olive, his expression amused.

"We’re not," Lucas replied with a heavy sigh, leaning back in his seat. His tone was unconvincing, which prompted Lara, Mark, and Aiden to chuckle softly at the ongoing drama between the two.

The rest of the drive was spent in silence, with each person lost in their own thoughts. The sleek car glided through the busy streets before finally pulling into the hospital parking lot. Stepping out, they were greeted by the familiar sight of nurses and doctors bustling around, their footsteps echoing in the sterile hallways.

Mark led the way with purpose, his expression serious as they approached Doctor Thompson’s office. He paused at the door, his hand resting on the handle. Turning to Aiden, he asked, "This is it. I hope you’re ready, man."

Aiden smirked, his voice steady. "We’re already here, aren’t we? I wouldn’t be if I wasn’t ready." His light-hearted response earned chuckles from the group, easing some of the tension. Straightening his posture, Aiden added with a determined look, "Let’s do this."

Mark nodded and pushed open the door. Inside, Doctor Thompson sat behind his desk, reading a file. He looked up as the students entered, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Ah, welcome, kids. I’ve been expecting you all," he said, gesturing for them to take their seats.

"Thank you doctor!" The students chorused together as they settled into the chairs.

The atmosphere shifted as the doctor’s expression grew serious. "Okay, I won’t waste any time. Aiden, you’re here today to start your second round of chemotherapy."

Doctor Thompson adjusted his glasses, his tone measured but encouraging. "Aiden, I’m so glad you’ve decided to continue with the treatment. As you know, the first round didn’t yield the results we were hoping for. The cancer didn’t go into remission, but that doesn’t mean we’re giving up. This time, we’re trying a different approach, and I’m optimistic it will be more effective."

Aiden nodded, his gaze steady and focused on the doctor. "I’m ready to do whatever it takes to beat this. I don’t want to give up on life yet," he said, his voice firm with determination.

Mark, Olive, Lara, and Lucas exchanged glances before nodding in unison, their faces reflecting their solidarity. They were all in this together, and their shared resolve was evident.

Doctor Thompson stood, his demeanor calm but purposeful. "Alright, let’s get started then. Aiden, please follow me to the treatment room. The rest of you can wait here in the office."

"You can do it man!" Lucas said with a warm smile trying to encourage Aiden.

"Yeah. We believe in you." The others chorused with a warm smile that seems to warm Aiden heart.

Aiden rose from his seat, giving his friends a reassuring smile although tears had made it way to his eyes but he tried so hard to keep them from falling.

His friends nodded encouragingly as they watched him follow the doctor out of the office.

The hallway was quiet, the sound of Aiden’s footsteps echoing faintly. Though his expression remained composed, he couldn’t entirely suppress the nervous flutter in his chest. He knew this round of chemotherapy would be tougher than the first, but he was ready to face it head-on.

Back in the waiting room, the group sat in silence for a moment before Olive finally spoke, her voice soft. "I’m so worried about him," she admitted, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.

Mark placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "He’s going to be okay, Olive. We’re all here for him, and I have no doubt he’s going to pull through this time. He’s stronger than he looks, you know."

Lara nodded in agreement, her tone light but reassuring. "Yeah, Doctor Thompson is one of the best oncologists in the country. If anyone can help Aiden, it’s him. And besides," she added with a small smile, "we all have plans to graduate together, attend prom together, and take cheesy group photos. There’s no way he’s missing out on that."

Lucas leaned back in his chair, attempting to lighten the mood further. "And maybe, just maybe, he’ll finally get a girlfriend who’ll fuss over him as much as we do. He can’t be the only single one in our group forever."

The group broke into laughter, the sound cutting through the tension like sunlight breaking through storm clouds. For a brief moment, their worries faded.

Still, as they sat there waiting for Aiden to complete his treatment, an unshakable sense of uncertainty lingered in the back of their minds. They all hoped, they believed that this time would be different.
