Chapter 96 Coquettish Apology

The environment in the Wonton Shop was not noisy, yet Jiang An could clearly sense the man’s displeasure, and the atmospheric pressure between the two plummeted.

Jiang An was still avoiding Gao Chuan’s gaze, when the Boss Lady happily brought over two bowls of wontons, and the girl looked up to say "thank you" with a smile.

The two ate their wontons, and throughout the meal, neither spoke.

Dr. Gao was usually a man of few words, but Jiang An was pondering how to explain to the man. Clearly, she felt that he seemed a bit angry because of her earlier question.

But it was he who had always been concerned about keeping their marriage relationship as concealed as possible. Jiang An supported her head in contemplation, occasionally lifting her eyes to glance at Dr. Gao, who was eating slowly across her. The man still wore an expressionless face like a block of ice, his eyes slightly chilling.

Knowing that the man might be upset about her overly concealing their relationship, Jiang An didn’t know what to say to alleviate the awkward atmosphere between them, as coaxing people was what she was worst at.

With something on her mind, Jiang An ate her wontons intermittently. Fortunately, there were few customers in the shop, which prevented their silence from becoming too desolate.

When Gao Chuan had finished his last wonton, he finally looked up to see a gloomy-faced Jiang An. The girl saw the empty bowl in front of Gao Chuan and hurriedly sped up, quickly stuffing the few remaining wontons into her mouth. Her frantic movements caught Dr. Gao’s eye, causing a slight frown on his handsome brow.

Once Jiang An finally finished the bowl of wontons in big bites, she couldn’t help but burp and felt extremely embarrassed just as the man opposite her had already stood up to pay the bill.

When they walked out of the Wonton Shop, the man was still quiet. Jiang An followed him with small steps, then suddenly remembered something, quickened her pace, and reached out to grab his arm from behind.

Gao Chuan abruptly stopped and turned around, only to see the girl looking guilty like a child who had done something wrong. She coquettishly lowered her head, appearing as an innocent and harmless little creature. Seeing him turn around, she weakly uttered, "Dr. Gao, I’d like to take a walk around here."

Fearing he might refuse, she hurriedly added, "I ate too much... I want to digest."

Her soft, sticky voice was like a melodious string plucking at the man’s heart, causing ripples to spread.

Gao Chuan could hear the pleading tone in the girl’s voice, soft and itchy, reminiscent of ants quietly crawling about.

The man glanced at his watch; it was nearly seven o’clock. Looking up at Jiang An’s embarrassed expression, he responded in a flat tone, "Okay."

The evening was approaching, the twilight gradually fading, the last ray of sunlight vanishing, the sky displayed a dove gray hue, a faint crescent moon embedded in the horizon, and the street lamps alongside the road cast dim light, illuminating the path ahead for both of them.

Though it was supposed to be a walk together, Gao Chuan walked ahead alone without even glancing back at her. Jiang An, from behind, stared at the man’s upright figure under the faint light, a smile suddenly appearing on her lips.

Within a few seconds, she took long strides and directly held the man’s somewhat cold hand from behind, their palms pressed together—hot and cold. The warmth from the girl’s palm continuously spread into the man’s heart.

Gao Chuan slightly turned his body and looked down at the girl whose hand he was tightly holding, a glint of astonishment in his eyes.

"Still angry?" Before he could recover, Jiang An had already leaned in, her petite stature of one meter sixty gazing up at him, her round face smiling sweetly, her clear eyes as captivating as the moonlight.

Under the street lamp, the bright white light cast upon the two, throwing long and slender shadows.

Gao Chuan looked down at Jiang An’s small face, suppressing his words.

This was Jiang An’s first time actively getting close to him, practically sticking to him like a plaster, and seeing that he still wouldn’t speak and wouldn’t let it go, she softly coaxed, "Okay, I was wrong, I’ll definitely never ask about this again."

The apology was in a coquettish tone.

Her sweet voice fell into the man’s ears, and his steps suddenly halted.

"I’m also afraid that people in the department will find out about our relationship and inevitably gossip, so Dr. Gao, please don’t be mad!"

This time Jiang An really put herself out there, rubbing against Dr. Gao’s arm like a little kitten.

Perhaps she herself didn’t realize just how coquettishly she was behaving.

The man looked down at the girl’s soft and cute face, his deep eyes adding a few shades of profundity, and his heart softened.

When a girl acts coquettishly, not even the mightiest can resist.

Jiang An looked at the man’s indifferent face and thought to herself, wondering what more she could possibly do.

Could it be that Dr. Gao was truly upset, the kind that couldn’t be easily appeased?

Seeing her tactics fail, the corners of her eyes drooped down, she slowly bowed her head not knowing what else to say, but at that moment, she heard the man’s deep magnetic voice above her head.

"Have you digested your food yet?" His tone was questioning, yet carried a hint of indulgence.

Jiang An hastily raised her head, her black eyes merging with the man’s tall silhouette, a hint of surprise surfaced on her beautiful face as she softly said, "Not yet."

"Then let’s keep walking." The man shifted his gaze away from Jiang An and indifferently spoke.

Jiang An quickly nodded her head, then suddenly realized she was still holding the man’s hand, their palms together emanating warmth. She reacted to her earlier shameful action, her face blushing, wanting to let go but suddenly the man tightened his grip, and ultimately she couldn’t pull away.

Jiang An noticed the man’s silent action, looked up to see his face still calm, a smile curling up at the corners of his mouth, and she quickened her steps to keep up.

By now night had fallen, the pedestrian street was sparsely populated, the two walked past a few still-open small shops, with Jiang An walking side by side with the man, cheerfully talking about her first day of internship.

"Dr. Li is really funny, he keeps saying you’re interfering with his relationship with Dr. Bai..." After the atmosphere had lightened, Jiang An’s chatty nature was also rekindled, and she started talking non-stop to Dr. Gao about the interesting things she felt today.

"Also, the cafeteria’s twice-cooked pork is really delicious, I never liked Northeastern cuisine before but I think it’s done exceptionally well, I’m going to try the braised pork tomorrow..."

"I was assigned to bed number 2, there’s an elderly lady in her eighties, I really hope her condition is benign."

Gao Chuan slowly walked with the girl, quietly listening to her vivid narration of the day, patiently responding sentence by sentence.

A not-too-long path, two hands tightly held, a girl chirping away.

The man quietly pursed his lips, his eyebrows gently lifting.

Jiang An looked up to see a faint smile on the man’s face, her heart felt like it skipped a beat.

She had appeased him, her Dr. Gao.
