Chapter 228 Can You Let Go of Me Now?
Jiang An had no choice but to walk around to the front and open the car door to sit in the passenger seat, while Gao Chuan next to her had already started the car smoothly. She couldn’t help but sneak a glance at the man.
Today, Gao Chuan had broken his usual routine of wearing suits and shirts and instead simply wore a round-necked black T-shirt. The half-sleeve revealed his smooth muscle lines, exuding a strong hormonal scent, and his delicate face didn’t look like that of a man in his thirties at all.
Jiang An couldn’t help but be dumbfounded, as she had only ever seen him in stiff suits or lab coats before, and had never seen Gao Chuan dressed like this.
The man suddenly turned his head and their eyes met. Jiang An quickly looked away from his gaze and out the window. A few seconds later, she suddenly felt a figure leaning in. When she turned back, she was met with the man’s sturdy chest, holding her breath, her brows and eyes revealing a bit of surprise.
Gao Chuan had already reached over her side to fasten the seat belt. Seeing her astonished expression, he sat back down and turned his head to gently remind her, "You need to fasten your seat belt."
Jiang An came back to her senses and looked down at the seat belt already pulled over by the man, giving a simple "hm" in response.
The child in the back seat was oblivious to the excitement of the two adults in front and was chatting with Jiang An as the car started moving. She occasionally turned her head and patiently responded to him.
Gao Chuan listened to the conversation between the two the whole way and didn’t say a single word, perfectly fitting into his role as the "driver."
Today was clear and sunny, and upon their arrival at the amusement park, it was already bustling with people and a variety of entertaining attractions, with joyful laughter everywhere.
Gao Chuan went ahead to line up for tickets while Jiang An waited under the shade of a tree with Yanyan. The excited child, upon reaching the crowded place, spotted toys for sale nearby and eagerly pulled Jiang An over, selecting a Mickey Mouse headband to put on her.
Unable to resist the child’s earnest plea, Jiang An squatted down and let Yanyan play around with her hair.
Yanyan stretched out a little hand to place the headband on Jiang An’s head, carefully tucking in the stray hairs by her temples.
Delighted after finishing the task, Yanyan clapped her hands and praised, "Sister, you’re so pretty."
Jiang An was wearing a light pink dress that day. Under the sunlight, her fair cheeks hinted at a gentle blush, her delicate eyebrows and deep eyes, her tall nose, and thin red lips all made her look like an adorable young girl with the embellishing headband.
When Gao Chuan returned with the tickets, he found that both the child and woman had a headband on their heads. The excited child ran up to him and, without a second thought, attempted to put the same headband on him.
Standing aside, Jiang An watched as Gao Chuan, who usually maintained a cool demeanor, now had cute ears on his head, and she couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Gao Chuan, who was initially in a sour mood after being fiddled with by the child, turned around and saw Jiang An laughing. His gaze softened, and he did not refuse further.
Gao Chuan had hardly been to an amusement park since he was young. Upon entering, he saw the noisy crowds; if not couples holding hands, it was families with children. He, who usually disliked clamor, furrowed his brow.
However, the child next to him was brimming with enthusiasm, insisting on dragging the two adults to see a parade.
Squeezed in the crowded masses, Jiang An tightly held onto the child’s hand to prevent getting separated. Shortly after they got close to the parade float, Gao Chuan squatted and let Yanyan ride on his shoulders, giving the child a broader view. Seeing his favorite cartoon character, he called out in excitement.
"Sister, look, Donald Duck."
Jiang An stood next to Gao Chuan, smiling as she responded to Yanyan.
As people gathered around, Jiang An was suddenly jostled from behind, nearly falling over. Gao Chuan, with quick reflexes, reached out and caught her.
By the time Jiang An looked up again, she found the man holding her hand. As she tried to let go, she heard Gao Chuan’s voice above her head: "Hold on to me, don’t get separated."
Before she could respond, she was squeezed closer to Gao Chuan by the crowd. Seeing this, the man tightened his grip on her hand and forcefully pulled her in front of him. Caught off guard, Jiang An braced herself against the man’s waist, and once she regained her composure, she quickly removed her hand from around his waist.
Holding hands was better than getting lost; in the end, Jiang An didn’t let go and allowed the man to lead her forward slowly.
In the midst of the crowd, she could barely see anything, only managing to hear a child excitedly reporting to her all the cartoon characters on the parade float above Gao Chuan’s head.
The only thing causing her cheeks to burn hot was their tightly clasped hands, the slightly coarse touch somehow providing a reassuring comfort.
Finally, the parade passed, and the crowd began to disperse. Jiang An was relieved to break free from the sea of people.
Yanyan had already climbed down from Gao Chuan. Seeing the carousel nearby, she clamored to go for a ride. Jiang An was about to follow the eager child but was stopped by a pull from behind, realizing Gao Chuan was still holding her hand.
She turned back and looked at the man behind her, their gazes simultaneously fixing on their intertwined palms.
To be precise, Gao Chuan was still holding her hand, showing no sign of letting go.
"Can you let go of me now?" Jiang An prompted him.
Only then did Gao Chuan belatedly release her hand, watching the woman run off, a hint of a smile curled up at the corner of his lips.
The feeling of being in the amusement park wasn’t too bad.
— —
Happy moments are always fleeting, and the afternoon arrived quickly.
Yanyan played alone in the children’s amusement area while Jiang An and Gao Chuan stayed outside to watch.
The child bouncing on the trampoline occasionally paused to look in their direction. Jiang An saw her and enthusiastically waved back, taking out her phone to snap pictures of the child.
They, along with a group of other parents, waited outside. Gao Chuan leaned against the railing behind him, watching Jiang An who was smiling and waving at Yanyan. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and beads of sweat dotted her forehead.
The man scanned the area, surrounded by other adults waiting for their children, all noisily complaining about today’s scorching weather.
Jiang An, fully focused on the children in the amusement area, didn’t notice Gao Chuan step away. When she returned to her senses, the man had somehow bought a stick of cotton candy. Realizing she was looking at him, he cleared his throat and held it out to her, "I bought it for you."
The cotton candy in the man’s hand, like a floating cloud, obscured their view of each other, making it difficult to discern his expression at the moment.
Soft sunlight rustled across Jiang An’s tranquil face. She looked up slightly to see the cotton candy that had suddenly appeared before her and hesitated for a few seconds before refusing, "Save it for Yanyan later."
Gao Chuan, seeing her turn away, paused, then said no more.
The man stared at the soft fluff before him, the light in his eyes gently settling down.
Doesn’t she love cotton candy the most?
